Editorial Reviews
After graduating from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, Maggie Rogers released her critically acclaimed debut EP, 'Now That The Light Is Fading'. The acclaimed producer/songwriter/performer now releases major label debut album: ‘Heard It In A Past Life’. The album includes the song that introduced Rogers to the world, “Alaska,” which has accrued over 100 million global combined streams to date. ‘Heard It In A Past Life’ also contains the follow-up singles “Fallingwater,” praised by NPR as “a celebration of the terrifying yet thrilling process of change” and “Give A Little,” which Pitchfork hailed as “cathartic pop song about empathy and unity.”; as well as newest single “Light On”, as seen on Saturday Night Live - November 3rd.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 10, 2024Delighted with this Maggie Rogers album! One of my new favorite singer-songwriters.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 20, 2019Maggie Rogers' career has been a long-time coming. Since her viral encounter with Pharrell Williams and the explosion of "Alaska," it's seemed all but certain that she would be the next big thing. Her ascent since then--from overnight YouTube star to festival headliner--is well deserved, and her first full-length record is proof positive.
Heard It In A Past Life is personal and evocative--a vehicle for Rogers to explore everything from relationships to unexpected fame. It has undeniable pop appeal, whether she is crooning in a bluesy ballad, rocking to a smooth R&B track, or bopping to the infectious clicks and thumps of lush, layered drum machine. Her pause-givingly good gospel-infused vocals are undoubtedly what makes her act show-stopping as she soars for notes that will raise the hair on your neck and delivers hypnotizing verses in a husky alto. But Rogers is much more than an excellent voice. She has an uncanny knack for crafting irresistible hooks and penning lyrics that are equal parts thought-provoking poetic ruminations and universal truths. She shows so much of herself on this record that you will undoubtedly see yourself somewhere in her stories and confessions.
In case it wasn't clear, it has to be said: Maggie Rogers has far, far more to offer to the world than the already exquisite "Alaska." The years since her explosion have clearly helped her refine her craft. "The Knife" swirls with disco attitude. "Light On" is anthemic and exultant. And "Fallingwater" might even surpass "Alaska" in its beauty; it's a truly breathtaking song. It's hard to imagine anyone not falling in love on some level with this album. It's something special, and we're lucky to start the year off so strong.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 23, 2023I'm a Maggie Rogers fan, so it's going to be a good review. I think I enjoy the "Notes from the Archive" album more than anything else right now, waiting for LP3, but this whole thing is so good, I wouldn't be without it.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 24, 2019I stumbled across this album as a new release on Amazon Music, and now I listen to it on repeat. It is sooo good.
She has a lovely voice yes, but the lyrics are deep and resonate with you. If not on one song then on the next; just keep listening. As an artist she shows that rare gift of being able to assemble the music and her vocal patterns when many artist just match the melody.
If you are a fan of singer song writers then listen, if you are a fan if intelligent art then listen, if you are a fan integral music then listen to Maggie Rogers. There is something here for everyone.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 31, 2020After seeing the video of Pharrell "critiquing" Maggie Rogers during her masterclass (If you haven't seen it, I strongly urge you to go watch it right now), I couldn't wait to get my hands on this CD. And it does not disappoint. It's a rare & beautiful thing when someone has been blessed with so much talent. Every song reinforces the feeling that Maggie Rogers is an old soul with the wisdom of someone who's lived several lifetimes...
- Reviewed in the United States on June 2, 2019I loved the entire CD. I had seen her on the "Today" show one Friday morning in the waiting lobby of an auto dealership from where I was having factory repair work done on my new car. And she was the performing artist for that morning. Maggie Rogers voice was awesome, she had a bluesy edge to it. And I love a good bluesy song when I hear one. Here's hoping you go far Maggie.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 30, 2024I have been wanting this record for a long time. Now that it is here, my only complaint is the the volume was cut very low. When I put this on you have to turn up the volume past the point where it would typically be ear splitting/danger zone. I thought it was my headphones and then one I unplugged them it was the same.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 18, 2023Got it for my uncle as a Christmas gift and he loves it

5.0 out of 5 stars Disco incrível, mas o acabamento nem tanto.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent debut album
The signature bit is neither here not there but I like that kind of thing but it's not why I bought this album. I listen to wfuv radio via streaming and heard Maggie on there and then found out about the infamous Farrell link afterwards. Anyway it's a very good album with proper singing as opposed to some of the whoops and screeches we get from others recently and just hope that the new song a week merry-go-round that is the current music eco system doesn't chew Maggie up before she's had chance to establish herself as a worldwide name. In 4 or 5 albums time and the right collaborations and the odd hit she could approach Joni Mitchell's longevity (who h will undoubtedly be compared to) but even half the success would be amazing. Interesting name to watch. Yet to see how the live performances are.
