Fun, exciting superhero movie

Fun, exciting superhero movie
The last we saw Scott Lang was at the end of "Captain America: Civil War" where Steve Rogers broke him, Falcon, Hawkeye & the Scarlet Witch out of the Raft prison. Then it was reveal in "Avengers: Infinity War" that Scott Lang was in house arrest for two years. So this film took us two years after "Civil War" where Scott Lang was in house arrest. Set while the Avengers & the Guardians of the Galaxy battling Thanos in "Infinity War", Dr. Pym & Hope (in her Wasp outfit) broke Lang out of house arrest so they can find a way to get Janet Van Dyne out of the Quantium Realm and also tangles with The Ghost who want Pym technology to save her life. The film ends when Pym rescues Janet and brought her out of the Quantium Realm. And of course, Scott Lang was released from house arrest and renew his relationship with Hope. Of course, there's a mid-credit scene where Lang get trapped in the Quantium Realm as the Pyms were turns to dust courtesy of Thanos which means Scott Lang will return in "Avengers: Endgame".This is a fun, exciting superhero film.

As far as the product, it played well and the DVD was of a high quality. The movie itself? I found the wasp character to be entirely too domineering. Unlike the first movie, Ant-man takes a backseat to women (Wasp and the villain) that behave more like dudes then super heroines. I guess this is just another sign of the times. I guess they can't all be as successful as Wonder Woman. Anyway, It's not a terrible movie. It's filled with the special effects we've come to expect from a Disney/Marvel movie but, had I seen it prior to purchase, I'd have left it on the online shelf. And yes, I know. Everyone says you have to see this (and certain other movies) because of the upcoming Avengers: Endgame. The trouble is that the Avengers haven't had a good movie since the first. They ruined the character Ultron. Infinity Wars was awful. Black Panther (who used to be one of my favorite comicbook heroes and a member of the Defenders) was predictable and bland. Winter soldier and Civil War has done nothing short of killing my interest in another childhood favorite (Capt. America). I won't touch their Social Justice version of Captain Marvel with a ten foot restraining order (unless its the guy from DC) nor do I have any intention of paying to see the second half of that terrible Avengers crapfest. I might be persuaded into giving the next Ant-man a chance but it'll depend on audience reviews and the trailers. Seeing the direction the MCU is steering, I'm not holding my breath.

I thoroughly enjoyed "Ant-Man" and was eagerly awaiting this sequel.
I wasn't disappointed when it finally arrived on my doorstep.
"Ant-Man and The Wasp" is funny, has more than its share of narrow escapes, and features really nice performances by Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, and Hannah John-Kamen. It also makes very good use of CGI. By that I mean the special effects are not used to cover up plot problems but, rather, enhance the story. The actors are the stars of this movie, not the special effects and that's a huge plus in my opinion.
The narrative picks up two years after the original Ant-Man (Scott Lang) burst upon the scene and our hero is currently on house arrest after working out a plea deal with U.S. and German authorities because he sided with Captain America in Marvel's "Civil War." A nice part of the narrative - to me, anyway - is that he has not only reconnected with his daughter but also with his ex-wife and her husband. (In the first movie her husband - a cop - spent most of the film trying to arrest Lang.) He has not spoken to Hank Pym (the scientist who created the Ant-Man suit that allows Lang to shrink in size) nor with his daughter Hope Van Dyne (Lilly) since he went to prison for helping Captain America. That changes when he has a strange dream about Pym's wife, who 30 years ago went into the Quantum Realm in order to stop a nuclear attack.
(I know, it's a little confusing but that's my fault, not the film's. It's all very clear in the movie.)
As a result of that dream Lang calls Pym and that leads the scientist to think there is a possibility he can rescue his wife from the Quantum Realm.
I'm not going to go deeply into the plot because I don't want to spoil the film for those that haven't seen it. I will say that there is a black marketeer who deals in high-tech gadgetry who is very interested in the Pym's work. The FBI is involved and John-Kamen has an interesting role as a woman who fades in and out of reality and who is also very interested in Pym's research into the Quantum Realm for reasons that become clear in the film.
All together, a nicely written film with a strong narrative, some really good performances by the main characters as well as the secondary ones, and a visually interesting viewing experience. There is also a very interesting twist at the end but you have to sit through the credits in order to see it.
Added together they equal 5 stars.

I won't say this film isn't important because it actually is but it just didn't reach the same level of enjoyment that the first film did. Still did what it needed to do to move things forward.

This is mostly just a sequel to Ant Man, and focuses on rescuing Hank's wife from the quantum realm. It is set in the aftermath of Civil War with Scott being near the end of a two-year long house arrest for his violation of the Sokovia accords. He has a dream about Hope's mother/Hank's wife the original wasp Janet Van Dyn, with Hope and Hank springing him from house arrest (in a pretty hilarious manner). I will not give too much away, but it basically becomes a game of keepaway with Hank's tech from the various people after it, including a shady tech dealer played by Walton Goggins, Ghost played by Hannah John-Kamen, and keeping ahead of the FBI. The events of Infinity War are tied in during the mid-credits scene. I will not give away exactly what happens, but we do see the consequences of Thanos' snap play out, and does set out where the characters are going into Avengers 4.

For those who get the 4k disc, the movie looks and sounds great, especially if you have a large screen. The UHD disc just has the movie itself. The extras are on the regular blu ray. There is about 22 minutes worth of behind the scenes and making of features, a short gag reel and outtakes, and few deleted scenes. Probably between 30 and 40 minutes total.

Overall, I think most people already know if they are going to be interested in this movie, given it is one of 20 in the overall MCU story arc. It is written so you do not have to have seen the others to follow most of it, but it will definitely help if you are up to date with the overall story arc that has played out throughout the other movies. The entire cast from the stars to the supporting characters are all great in their roles. Evangeline Lilly does a great job as the Wasp, and really seemed to be having fun with her more expanded role. As long as you do not have superhero movie fatigue, this is definitely worth checking out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another marvelous chapter of this incredible Marvel story !
Reviewed in Canada on March 1, 2020
After 4 movies from the third phase, on which I already left a review, I became a big fan of the Marvel world and I was into getting the full collection. The interaction between the characters through that incredible story is simply trilling ! From one movie to the next, you are slowly lead through the plot and you always wish to know more. It took me a long time and many movies to become a true fan, I’m a picky 65 years old woman. But if you like the genre, no doubt, you will be entertained. I’m giving a 5 stars to every movie because I chose to evaluate the collection, the full story, and each of the movie is a marvelous chapter of it.

If you are a beginner and to help you to start on the good foot, I decided to let you know the movie’s chronology, so you can keep track and follow the story smoothly, understand where they’re going with it and keep the same interest from the first to the very last one. At the moment of this review, the 3 first phases are completed and you can get these now. The phase 4 and 5 titles are to come, the 6th is still unknown. And here is the right sequence :

    * Phase 1 (6 movies) : Iron Man // The Incredible Hulk // Iron Man 2 // Thor // Captain America (the first Avenger) // Avengers.
** Phase 2 (6 movies) : Iron Man 3 // Thor: The Dark World // Captain America: The Winter Soldier // Guardians of the Galaxy // Avengers: Age of Ultron // Ant-Man.
*** Phase 3 (11 movies) : Captain America: Civil War // Doctor Strange // Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 // Spider-Man: Homecoming // Thor: Ragnarok // Black Panther // Avengers: Infinity War // Ant-Man and the Wasp // Captain Marvel // Avengers: Endgame // Spider-Man: Far from Home.
    **** Phase 4 (6 movies) : Black Widow, 2020 // The Eternals, 2020 // Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings 2021 // Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, 2021 // Spider-Man 3, 2021 // Thor: Love and Thunder, 202I.
    ***** Phase 5 (6 movies) : Black Panther II // Ant-Man 3 // Blade // Captain Marvel 2 // Fantastic 4 // Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
****** Phase 6 and over (number and titles of the movies not yet available at the moment of this review).

    ENJOY !!!
