Product Description
Based on the classic comic created by revered manga artist and animator Osamu Tezuka (Astroboy), written by anime legend Katsuhiro Otomo (Akira) and directed by Rintaro (Galaxy Express 999), Metropolis is a spectacular film featuring stunning imagery and unforgettable characters.
In the industrial, tri-level world of Metropolis, Duke Red is a powerful leader with plans to unveil a highly advanced robot named Tima. But Duke Red's violent son Rock distrusts robots and intends to find and destroy Tima. Lost in the confusing labyrinth beneath Metropolis, Tima is beginning a friendship with the young nephew of a Japanese detective. But when Duke Red separates the two innocents, Tima's life and the fate of the universe is dangerously at stake.
"If you have never seen a Japanese anime, start here. If you love them, Metropolis proves you are right. **** (4/4 stars)" - Roger Ebert

- Reviewed in the United States on November 27, 2023Metropolis is a must watch movie, a blockbuster and a blow up your mind movie. It's creator is a genius. A movie to see alone or with all the family to enjoy it.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 6, 2023This is my first introduction to anime as an adult, and I was not disappointed. It pays a nice homage to Fritz Lang's Metropolis, but yet it is its own story that stands on its own.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 28, 2025I enjoyed this very much. The animation reminded me a bit of Ralph Bakshi. The plot kind of went off the rails towards the end, but I will see it again
- Reviewed in the United States on February 11, 2021For those of you looking for a remastered edition of classic anime feature, this is the one you want (see photo). Like many, I purchased the first blu-ray release which is evidently a BDR (very poor quality). So if you're looking for the real McCoy, this would be the version you want. I took a chance on it, considering it was only 9.99. Super glad I did, I'm sure I paid much more for the original release which looks like garbage in comparison.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Release
Yes, I live in the United States. And yes, we are getting a local Blu-ray release here later this year. However, this release easily trumps that tenfold; it's mainly going to be poor due to it just being a burned BD-R disc, which means it won't last as long, among other things. It also doesn't get the deluxe steelbook treatment. The steel case has a gorgeous metallic sheen to it on the front, and is accented with a simple plain black backing. Not only that, but the Blu-ray plays perfectly in my US PS4 (and from other reports, in any Region A player) without a hitch! And it's already out, so there's no need to wait for a sub-par release of a movie that deserves so much more. This release also includes the post-credits image that the previous Region 1 DVD set so foolishly left out; the story is left unfinished without it, so having it here is perfection. Perfect release for any fan of the movie no matter where you live; be it in the UK, the US, or even on the moon. Buy this now before the Steelbook version is out of print! You won't regret it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Metoroporisu
Mill Creek delivers a stunning high bitrate transfer that appears to be unaltered. Choice of languages and subtitles otherwise just the film. The subtitles are higher on the screen than is reasonable and the size is always an issue these days... choices would be nice. The dubbing is excellent. A visual tour de force that will definitely make you look.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hermosa película un clasico de la animación
La película llegó a tiempo y en buen estado. Está película es ya un clásico de la animación, su historia es genial, un gran homenaje a la película original. Viene hablada con inglés y subtítulos en inglés.
