Editorial Reviews
John Duffey's influence on bluegrass cannot be overstated. His contributions to legendary bands The Country Gentlemen and The Seldom Scene helped transform the genre from a regional Appalachian music to a sophisticated, urban sound, resulting in a legion of new fans the world over. On Epilogue, the bluegrass music community comes together to create a marvelously fitting tribute to “the father of modern bluegrass.” Sam Bush, John Cowan, Bela Fleck, Bruce Molsky, Tim O’Brien, Don Rigsby, and so many more—it’s a rare and special all-star cast. Their eagerness and passion to record the album attest to how profoundly Duffey impacted them and countless other musicians today.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 8, 2018As soon as I opened the package a few minutes ago, I put in the CD and played it through at least four times! Every track is amazing. After reading the liner notes, I could see why. Although Akira Otsuka and Ronnie Freeland conceived the idea, dozens of musicians joined in, all out of love and admiration for the legendary John Duffey. Akira tracked down all the musicians and Ronnie recorded and mixed it all. The two songs I like most are the two where I almost hear Duffey's voice and mandolin--Christmas Time Back Home and If I Were a Carpenter. Actually, Duffey's mandolin was lovingly played on many of the songs, by Akira, Wayne Benson, David Grisman, Marc MacGlashan, and Seldom Scene bandmate Lou Reid. The liner notes, by bluegrass greats Akira, Katy Daley, Dudley Connell, and track notes by Jeff Place inform and entertain. I think I'll have to listen at least one more time today!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 18, 2019The Seldom Scene out of the Washington, DC, area turned bluegrass music on its stodgy, balding, old head. John Duffey was it and still is to many of us. A spokesman who spoke his mind and played his mandolin and sang like nobody's business, John Duffey left us too soon and will never be forgotten! Buy 'Epilogue: A Tribute to John Duffey'. Thanks for the memories, John!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 28, 2018A fitting tribute, by musicians who recognize John's contribution to the evolution of Bluegrass music/ and to a Japanese bluegrass musician who is determined to be sure he gets full recognition for this contribution.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 9, 2020John Duffy was a fine feller! Loved him. Great tribute!

5.0 out of 5 stars EPILOGUE John Duffey

5.0 out of 5 stars

1.0 out of 5 stars CD
