From Studio Ponoc and Academy Award® nominee Hiromasa Yonebayashi, director of When Marnie Was There and key animator on Spirited Away, comes a dazzling new adventure about a young girl who discovers a flower that grants her magical powers—but only for one night. Mary is an ordinary young girl stuck in the country with her Great-Aunt Charlotte when she discovers an old broomstick and the strange flower that blossoms only once every seven years. Suddenly, Mary finds herself whisked away to Endor College—a school of magic run by Madam Mumblechook and the brilliant Doctor Dee. - Reviewed in the United States on July 4, 2024We love Miyazaki movies but have seen them all hundreds of times lol this was loved by all our family members!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 13, 2024Another great Studio Ghibli movie
- Reviewed in the United States on July 9, 2024Cute movie
- Reviewed in the United States on May 2, 2018True to the studio ghilbi aesthetic, this is a coming of age story for our young protag Mary Smith. Good intentions, some accidental miscommunications, and just getting in over ones head. It's a wonderful story to watch and cheer Mary on with her good natured yet relatable emotions.
The animation style was wonderful and very spot on. Taking you a new world with rather alien workings. It was great to make the magic feel so unnatural and alive! I was a little surprised by the english dubs and English accents at first but it melted all together very quickly as they set up the background in what I assume to be England. I can see in other reviews this has thrown people for quite a loop. But go in open to the english dubs and allow yourself to follow along with them. I find the voices to be rather uplifting and suiting to the characters as they work together.
Overall, I have left the showing smiling and feeling inspired. It was a wonderful work of art and I know I will be rewatching it again and again. Thanks for working so hard on this film everyone!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 27, 2023This is truly a Kids show that an adult can enjoy as well.
Just innocent fun.
Just a beautiful story in our time where so many other series and movies are full of Adult content and pushing agendas, this one takes it back to fantasy and adventure story telling.
This one is adventurous, has a unique story, and won't try to teach your kids about all our crazy politics in the world right now. Truly a show for children.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 5, 2018It is one remarkable anime fantasy in the delicate and colorful style of Ghibli animation, with a number of tips of the hat, along the way, to some of the best known -- and loved -- works from that studio.
As it has been often noted, the one it resembles the most, if only in the surface, is "Kiki's Delivery Service." If it comes out somewhat short in the comparison, it is because this is a really good movie, the other a little timeless masterpiece.
Not as memorable as director Yonebayashi's previous major work, the mesmerizing "When Marnie was there", the work that "closed the door and turned out the lights", as the last full-feature movie ever produced by Studio Ghibli, "The Witch's Flower" is, nonetheless, worth watching every last minute of it.
I hope that brand-new Studio Ponoc manages to stay the course and produce more excellent movies in the great tradition started by the three Ghibli's leaders: Suzuki, Miyasaki and Takahata. A tradition that, one hopes, will become the new leaders' very own, and also a grand one, in time.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 29, 2024Since a lot of folks involved in this are from Studio Ghibli it's basically a Ghibli movie, same style and feel. Not up to par with, say, Spirited Away, but better than Earthsea. Definitely worth watching.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 12, 2024Love the animation style , very much like the Studio Ghibli films in art and plot.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buena película.
