But there's a simple way to regain control and enjoy a quieter, more relaxed daily experience:
unplug!

Technology Addiction Is Real

  • why your social life is in trouble
  • how your gadgets are causing you physical pain

... and that's just the beginning.

You'll also learn which factors and character traits are making you more vulnerable to a phone addiction and internet addiction. For example, Digital Detox explains how it's possible to develop an unhealthy dependency on technology based on:

  • your self-image
  • your work environment
  • peer pressure
  • impulsiveness
  • mental health

... and more.

Beat Your Technology Addiction With A Digital Detox!

Digital Detox also details the many ways in which your life will improve once you unplug from your devices. For example, you'll enjoy:

  • improved relationships
  • less anxiety
  • increased productivity
  • more free time
  • improved focus

... and that's just scratching the surface.

How To Do A Digital Detox

The last section of this action guide will walk you through doing a digital detox. You'll learn how to prepare for it so you'll be less likely to relapse. You'll also receive
step-by-step instructions for making the most of the time you spend apart from your phone and other devices.

Lastly,
Digital Detox will cover the effects you'll experience after you've successfully completed your detox. You'll also learn what to do afterwards to ensure your technology addiction forever remains under your control.

I liked that this book was easy to read and a step by step book. It wasn't all technical and hard to understand and you don't get bored reading statistics. It was quite nteresting! I did my 24 hr detox and it actually helped me realize how much better I can feel and how it wasn't that difficult after all. I'm excited for my next detox. Read it, you'll love it.

I love Damon Zahariades' books. Digital Detox is a good review and awareness for folks who don't realize how caught up in to the digital addition and social networking and ways to put it all in to the right perspective to gain control and peace in their lives.

For those of us who are network engineers and computer driven professionals, this book will be a bit of review and refresher for those of us who constantly seek to find ways to be more productive and have balance in our lives. I believe it is a bit more challenging to Digital Detox for computer based professionals, we can always streamline and prioritize what digital services are essential and which ones to weed out. This book compliments the rest of Damon's books and writing. My favorites so far, are the Art of Saying No (my favorite so far) and Time Chunking, great for those of us who constantly work to hone their productivity swords.

Damon Zahariades has written a very straightforward book on goin to to break your technology addiction. Damon explains what technology addiction is and how to tell if you are addicted. He then shows the high cost of technology addiction and the benefits of doing a digital detox. The last section deals with preparing for the detox, 24 hours of no tech use, how to do the detox, and what to expect afterwards. An important on one of the growing problems of our day.

"Digital Detox: Unplug To Reclaim Your Life” is a great resource for those who are reading about the topic of digital addiction for the first time and want a solid introduction to it.

But for someone familiar with the topic, it might be a bit disappointing. Not because you will find nothing new in it. In fact it has many fresh ideas and is well supported with research findings. It is because it is full of redundancies and repetitions that could have been avoided.

To illustrate my point, I will show how repeatedly the book covers the relationship between sleeping and digital addiction:

In the chapter “10 Signs You May Be Addicted To Technology” there is a section or paragraph titled “You sacrifice sleep to spend more time online.”

In the chapter “Top 12 Side Effects Of Technology Addiction” there is a section titled “Inconsistent sleep Quality”.

In the chapter “How Technology Addiction Negatively Impacts Your Life” there is a section titled “sleeping problems”.

In the chapter “15 Ways Your Life Will Improve After A Digital Detox” there is a section titled “You’ll sleep better”.

In the chapter “The Effects Of A Digital Detox On Your Brain” there is a section titled “Effect #4: Better Sleep”.

Not to mention that sleep issues were also repeatedly covered in many other related sections. The same repetitions are done in covering many other topics and I gave "sleep" as an example to illustrate. It is true that each instance is not an exact repetition and is approached from a different angle, but there remain many unnecessary repetitions in my opinion. To look at the positive side of these repetitions, they might be helpful to make the point for beginners.

Other than the above, I think that the book is in many places over simplistic and even contradictory. For example, step #9 of doing a complete digital detox suggests reading a book and specifies novels and fiction books: “You may be drawn to the latest release on investing strategies, exercise and dieting, or how the brain works. But such books won’t do during your digital detox.” Then the author suggests ideas about something we’ve been interested in pursuing, but have put on the back burner due to lack of time and motivation. For example, learn how to: Code a website, Create spreadsheet graphs and charts … Analyze stocks. And then the author gives some ideas about topics in which to become more knowledgeable like: Thermodynamics, Anthropology, Macroeconomics, Primate Behavior, Philosophy, Theology…

Well, if I am on digital detox and I have no access to the internet, and if I am not supposed to read nonfiction because “such books won’t do during your digital detox”, then how can I learn to code a website, analyze stocks… or become more knowledgeable in Thermodynamics, Macroeconomics, Endocrinology, Philosophy…?! And will I be able to learn such complicated subjects during a digital detox program of 24 to 72 hours done two to three times a year as suggested in the book? What about the other activities I should be involved in during the detox like exercise, visiting and meeting friends and interpersonal communication not to mention having a good night sleep.?! But in fairness, not all suggestions are that complicated and many, like how to make a flower arrangement or car oil change, could be learned without internet access or technical books.

As for the benefits of doing a digital detox, they are well covered in the book. But it is over promising to say that we will enjoy those benefits after such a short detox program even if done more than once a year. I think things are more complicated than that. Yet these benefits are realistic and achievable but not as easily and simply as the book suggests.

Taking the above flags into consideration, I still think it is a good book and serves as a solid introduction to the topic.

4.0 out of 5 stars An interesting read

Well worth a read, as it's surprising how reliant we all are on being connected digitally.
Personally, I live alone and the internet is my preferred method of contact, and I hate phones so my moby is always on silent and I don't have a landline. But the book has many good arguments for why even less online contact should be the norm.
While the guidance given is of the "you need to do this" variety, I think its pretty easy to sift through and decide which areas you could prune to reduce digital interaction. I have definitely been procrastinating over thinning out FB friends...
The thought of having a full break from online interaction doesn't at first seem too challenging. I'd probably find it otherwise when I do, but possibly I have a head start as I live without a TV or an online media subscription.
As the book is available on Kindle Unlimited, if you subscribe to that, it's definitely worth a read if only for the curiousity factor. Who knows? You might take it further...

5.0 out of 5 stars Experience with a first digital detox (light)
Reviewed in Germany on December 2, 2018
As I was reading the first chapters I was already following the first steps of digital detox. No more Facebook on my mobile phone! Last Sunday I also deleted my browser cache to make sure that I can’t log into FB unintentionally again. My first goal was to be logged out for one whole week. After the first days without my biggest distraction I started to realize that I felt less stressed. After one week I can say that I feel less stressed, my productivity at work is beginning to increase, and I am starting to read more books instead of wasting my time there.

My plan is be more active in real life, and to communicate with people directly. For example, last Friday I played chess with my neighbor, and guess what, it was fun! I think that to be online and to forget the people around you is one of the biggest problems nowadays. We are starting to lose the ability to interact in the real world with real people. A digital detox is the right way to get rid of this new nasty pattern!

the book.... didn't work at all. Any of them. I was not surprised,
