we used it for board game miniatures, gloomhaven, fallout, dark souls, etc. works great. the photo could feel you though on size. this holder is like 2" by 1" - i have bigger miniature than this thing haha. the photo looks like it's 6" tall or something, it's not. it's very small. but it does the job it was made for. we have a stand alone 3x magnifying lamp with led built in, from amazon, this holder with the miniature, and you can paint tiny details with ease. i am not sure what the top review is talking about with beveled or curved pieces. the game pieces we used are all flat circle bottom, like 1" circles maybe? they work fine in this. much easier than holding them or having them sit on a flat surface. they don't move around or spin. the holder here has a spring like mechanism and grabs them and holds them. this is an easy to recommend $10 for folks who want to paint miniatures. 5 stars from us.

Can paint bigger models with hack!
Bought this for my boyfriend's birthday, was pretty bummed the next models that he was painting were bigger than what fit into this handle. We were playing around with this, found that the clamp is just attached by a tripod screw. I had a tripod mount for my phone and we attached it to the handle, and voila! He can now paint the bigger models with this handle. What you want is Phone Mount with Tripod Screw. I don't feel comfortable recommending one from amazon because mine is old and isn't from amazon, so I can't speak to quality. But have it be flat on the bottom with the tripod screw like the one in the picture, and look for one with padding around the clamp part.

I've painted several minis in the past and never really was able to put into the detail work I wanted to. With the extra control the handle gave me I was able to angle the mini to reach difficult areas to paint in detail and fully paint my mini. Patchy painted minis are now in my past, I'm really happy with how this product bettered my mini painting experience. My mini looks pretty good too!

Reasonably priced for a robust tool
Really useful tool for painting miniatures. The spring loaded mechanism holds the model firmly and easily. Although it’s true that you can make similar items cheaply, the quality and robustness of this holder really warrants the reasonable cost of this item.
