The Tenth Doctor is a fascinating combination of bonhomie and loneliness. He felt the loss of Rose Tyler very keenly but approaches all his adventures with a life-affirming gusto!

Doctor Who "The Complete Tenth Series" bluray review.
Have been a fan of Doctor Who for a while, and this series is one of my favorites. Pearl Mackie as Bill is one of the best 'new" Doctor Who companions. I miss the fact that she seems to be a 'one season' companion and won't be a part of the show anymore. Bill & the 12th Doctor make such a good Tardis team! Nardole is also fun, and his actor manages to make the character funny without making him a simple comic relief character (c'mon, how can you not laugh at Nardole's "death by Scotland" line?)Now, this box set includes all the episodes from Series 10, plus the "Return of Doctor Mysterio" Christmas special from 2016. This set does NOT include the 2017 Christmas special called "Twice Upon A Time". That will have a separate release sometime in February, and it's also a possibility that it will be included in the future complete eleventh series box set. Unlike some previous Doctor Who releases, this comes in a slim style blu ray box set. It's not as elaborate as the digibook editions of the past season releases, and takes up a little less space on your shelf. If you buy it early enough, you will get a slipcover with it (same artwork as on the set's cover, no alternate art).My favorite extra on the whole set (other than the binaural audio for the 'haunted house' style episode "Knock Knock") has to be all the behind the scenes stuff relating to the final two episodes. It's a good two part story with a couple returning villains (the Cybermen have not been this creepy/scary for a long time), some surprises, and overall I think it's a good way to end the tenth series. The 12th Doctor's last series feels like a good jumping on point for new Doctor Who fans (the first episode is called "Pilot" and sets up everything pretty well), and I'd definitely recommend it. :)

This stage actor is just what this rebooted series needed to keep the climax, charisma, and wonder alive!

And YES, we have a bonus. Now if only the Christmas episode is included, which I doubt, it would be perfect, but even without it is not a bad deal. IV/18/2017

Update IV/16/2017: "The pilot" appeared today at 3:06 a.m. Caracas time, WAY before SYFY on Directv (later tonight). With the captions in place! Way to go Amazon! Will see about the extras, and the rest of the season.

Pretty good reboot, would much prefer a straight companion, even if this one works well to exclude any romance at this stage in the Doctor's life. Nardole is a cyborg. And will have TWO master's. NO SPOILERS. So what are you waiting for, buy it, watch and decide for yourself.

Even when Doctor Who is bad it is still very good and the fans will see it. After all except for 'the Return of Doctor Mysterio' we have been more than a year without the Doctor.

Now the main points are: It will be released by Amazon after it premieres in the UK, and BBC America (IV-15-2017). How long after? No one knows, probably a bit less than 24 hours, perhaps a bit more than that. (At this date is a fair bet that even Amazon doesn't know)

The Close captions will appear, a bit after the release.

So be patient, I bought "The Return of Doctor Mysterio" this Christmas 2016, and (I am in Caracas) I watched it first on Directv. It appeared finally and it was very, very good, the captions Also appeared in good time.

Also I got a few extras, they were very nice and not announced, like how was it made and extra short programs broadcasted in the UK. Will they give us any extras? I hope so. Will it include the Christmas Special 2017? I hope so but I doubt it. It will be at the very least 12 episodes of the series, that is by the way the last of Peter Capaldi.

New companion, also Nardole appears again, The "Mistress" (Missy) , the Daleks, watch the free trailer. What is not to like?

Yes, another review made just on faith, and love for the Program.

It is worth the money, to me YES, I like to rewatch it.

How are things in Caracas, the birthplace of the 21th century Socialism? Internet comes and goes, I had 5 days without, people are eating garbage, and the government is stealing anything they want, a few days ago they took several bakeries.

Yes, that has nothing to do with Who, but please count your blessings, living in what is the greatest Country in the World!

    So enjoy the new series

    Peter

The Doctor returns in series 10 of the now longest running sci-fi show in history. After the events of series Nine in which the Doctor has forgotten everything about Clara and his final encounter with River Song. He finds himself in New York city on Christmas being aided by a young boy named Grant. Grant curious to know who this strange man is and confuses him for Santa allows him into his home and he learns that he isn't Santa, but the Doctor. Grant confused as the Doctor lets him look at a Red Dwarf gem and confuses it for medicine as he wasn't feeling well. Swallows it and quickly developers super powers as a result of the gem. The Doctor checking in on Grant during his adolescence he returns to present day to investigate Harmony Shoals in New York City. A strange company with locations around the world and they have a plan. There the Doctor and Nardole who he rebuild to join him in his travels encounters reporter Lucy Fletcher as she too is looking into Harmony Shoals. What none of them know is that the enigmatic hero "The Ghost" is also on the case and is stopping evil wherever it is in New York City.
What none of them know (expect for the Doctor of course) is that The Ghost is really Grant now Lucy's nanny and taking care of her infant daughter. The Doctor, Nardole, Grant and Lucy are embroiled in a plot by Harmony Shoals that intends to trigger a bomb and replace the minds of world leaders with their own and conquer the Earth.
The Doctor on Earth has taken to teaching a college and refuses to travel in the TARDIS. While teaching he meets a young woman named Bill who works in the college cafeteria and wonders if all her life is meant working and serving chips to students as life passes her by. The Doctor impressed with Bill begins to teach her and in time he leaves Earth in the 21st century to show Bill the universe. There they encounter spacesuits willing to kill its occupants for the sake of business. British troops on Mars in the 19th century. An invasion that never happened! A ship that harbors the genesis of a race the Doctor has fought before and an old enemy thought gone. The reason why a Roman Legion disappeared in ancient Britain. A puddle that wants Bill and so much more.

5.0 out of 5 stars The last truly great season
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 3, 2024
This was an interesting year, Steven Moffat hadn't been expecting to stay on another year and given his excellent parting episodes with Heaven Sent and The Husbands Of River Song closing River Song's story there are some that dismiss this season unfairly. It's a wonderful epilogue to his tenure.

Firstly Bill, a wonderful character who is really willing to criticise the Doctor which is a great contrast after a season where the arc was a companion who brought about their own end trying to out-Doctor the Doctor.
Most of the episodes fall into the good category; all but two have scores highest than the highest rated episodes of the following season.
The two *slightly* weaker episodes are Empress of Mars and the Eaters of Light. Neither is particularly weak.

The standout episodes are the finale, which depending on where you look has both parts either in the top 10 of modern stories or at least the top 20. They are a wonderful send off to this often overlooked Doctor - Capaldi by the end of his tenure is absolutely on fire. It's a shame that with the BBC looking to the future they didn't give this season the promotion or stable time slots it deserved.

The christmas special is The Return of Doctor Mysterio which I liked a lot more on second viewing. I think I was as burnt out as everyone on super-heroes, but the powers aren't present this is a wonderful episode with some great characters.

Sadly missing the final Christmas special with Capaldi's regeneration; I suggest picking that up in 4k however if you can. It's a real treat.
