I saw the movie when it originally went into theaters. It has a message in it that couples and/or groups can live by for a lifetime. "Love means never having to say 'I'm sorry'" has got to be one of the most basic, down to earth descriptions of a true love relationship that has ever been spoken. So, I bought it in hopes that they, too, can "get the message". Hopefully, "Love means never having to say, 'I'm sorry'" can live on with it's, so positive, message.Great Actors, Ali MacGraw, & Ryan O'Neal. Very Happy when I found the Blue Ray, I worn out my DVD. The Disc also contain, Commentary by Director Arthur Hiller, "Love Story: A classic Remembered"

    Love Story was THE tear-jerker of 1970-71, an enormously popular film I saw with my teen friends a few months after its release, and that we giggled at while adult ladies were pulling out their hankies and tissue only 10 minutes into the first reel. Obviously, they had seen Love Story before, and however many times they'd seen it since the first, the movie still affected them so much that tears flowed freely before Oliver (Ryan O'Neal) and Jenny (Ali MacGraw) could even meet.

    For decades, I never bothered to see Love Story again. Then I decided to give it another chance when we still had video rental stores. I thought it was awful, but I perversely enjoyed it. There was something so innocent and earnest about it, and there was real chemistry between O'Neal and MacGraw (who I like as an actor, particularly in the Getaway with Steve McQueen). If you haven't seen Love Story, it would probably be wise to give a look on Prime Video or some streaming service before buying. If you already like it, then Paramount's 50th anniversary 4K blu-ray release is a good purchase. I had the old DVD, which looked pretty washed out and uninteresting. This newly restored blu-ray brings out some surprising visual quality—surprising because I don't remember the movie looking particularly impressive on the big screen when I saw it eons ago.

    Overall, a nice presentation of a movie that is somewhat historic (for its initial effect & popularity) and very much a time capsule of its day. For sensitive ears, be aware there is some foul language, as Jenny is a "spitfire" of sorts, a wry observer of life from the RI working class—and of course, we all curse like crazy in RI. (Or used to.)

    Un bellissimo film del 1970 (ma ancora attuale per i temi trattati) con finale strappalacrime. Il film fa riflettere su alcune importanti tematiche della vita per quanto, qui e là, spesso (per scelta degli autori) si preferisce la superficialità all'analisi profonda. La qualità delle immagini del DVD non è eccellente ma, considerato l'anno del film, è più che accettabile e l'audio è buono. I contenuti extra fanno capire bene quanto il caso e le scelte estemporanee abbiano avuto un peso determinante sul risultato finale. Fra le curiosità, questo è il primissimo film dell'attore Tommy Lee Jones (ha solo una piccola parte che interpreta senza nessun apparente timore reverenziale); inoltre il regista del film (Arthur Hiller), da quanto emerge nei contenuti extra, dichiara (convinto, a posteriori, di aver fatto la scelta giusta) di aver rifiutato la proposta di girare il film "il padrino" consentendo a Francis Ford Coppola di regalarci quel meraviglioso capolavoro. La colonna sonora è bellissima ma non ci sono le parole; consiglio di cercare la versione cantata (es. da Johnny Dorelli) dopo aver visto il film; le parole sono belle, commuoventi e in linea con la storia del film. Da vedere assolutamente..... forniti di fazzoletto.
