Editorial Reviews

Colter Wall is a 21 years old Saskatchewan born songwriter and performing musician. Wall's sound is comprised of resonate and raw baritone vocals, Folk and Bluegrass style guitar and banjo picking, steady kick-drum stomping, and visually provoking, story telling lyrics. Wall Draws influence from legends of the past such as Hank Williams, Robert Johnson, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Townes Van Zandt, and The Band, as well as more modern Americana pioneers including Shovels and Rope, Jack White, Ray Lamontagne, and Shakey Graves. Despite only recently beginning his musical career, Colter Wall has been seen in the company of Saskatchewan's infamous gritty bluegrass trailblazers,The Dead South, released an EP Imaginary Appalachian in the summer of 2015 from which Sleeping On The Blacktop ended up in the movie Hell or High Water in 2016. From dive bars to fundraiser galas, Colter Wall has a history of leaving audiences in shock at the maturity of his voice as well as his songwriting. Currently settled in Kentucky Colter will be releasing his debut 11 track album produced by Dave Cobb in May 2017 - featuring all his own compositions except Snake Mountain Blues (Townes Van Zandt).

Canadian mountain boy has never sung so fine or sweet. Imaginary Appalachia had some really great tunes and this album is no exception. Vinyl is a gem with some sweet inserts and great sounder 👍👍👍👍👍

Great LP for fans of classic country and are sick and tired of that pop country B.S.

All I need is a camp fire, my dog, a can-a-beans, and this Colter Wall LP!

In time, Colter Wall should be a country legend. This young man with an old soul is stunning in his storytelling and in the simplicity, yet complexity, of his delivery. If you liked the raw, honest Rick Rubin produced Johnny Cash albums, you will absolutely love this. Of course, that means that Colter's music (like Cody Jinks, Whitey Morgan, and other amazing true country artists) will never make it onto what passes for "country radio" today. I cannot recommend it highly enough. It is best enjoyed with a few fingers of whiskey and a campfire. Colter Wall is the real deal.

A 22 year old singer/songwriter that Steve Earle calls the best songwriter he's seen in a while. Nick Cave and Warren Ellis included one of Colter's songs (off his EP, not this album) on the soundtrack they did for Hell or High Water. The same song was used in the trailer for 3 Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. This eponymous offering marks the debut of one of the new generation of major songwriters and is compelling start to finish. It does take a minute to reconcile the depth of that voice with the age of the singer, but once you do, you know you are witnessing the start of a great career.

Vinyl quality: 5/5 thic, no warps, it skips a little on 13 silver dollars but i think thats my fault, i dont think it when i first got it. Comes with a nice little lyric pamphlet and mp3 download card.

Album quality: 6/5 its somber, its deep, it strikes every chord on my heart strings. Unlike anything else in the country/folk scene right now.
Cant wait to see him live but for now ill have to be satisfied with the sound coming from the stereo.

I simply love Colter Wall. Traditional country. Simplicity. And a bit rough. But authenticity.

I was very pleasantly suprised by the included lyric-book. Colter Wall has written some beautiful stories on this record, you can perfectly visualize the story because of his writing. Reading along to his dark guitar playing on Bald Butte is such a beautiful experience.

8/10, the record tends to skip during 'Me and big Dave' and the ending of 'Kate McCannon'

Ho scoperto questo album per caso e, secondo me, è il miglior modo per scoprire le cose. Quando ascolti la sua voce e pensi alla sua età... Beh si rimane a bocca aperta.
