Actually saw this in the theater as a kid. Very glad that I could add it to my collection.

You have no idea how excited I was to finally get one of my very favorite "guilty pleasure" movies on DVD. It's so nice finally having a good copy of it after only being able to really watch it on VHS all these years.

This is one of my favorite movies. I remember seeing it as a kid in theaters and have always had a huge fondness for it. Admittedly, it is kind of a poor man's It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, and much of the comedy is overly broad. It was a box office flop when it came out in 1979, but I think it's underrated. It boasts a really great cast of very funny people. I think, overall, it's shot well. The humor, action, and story itself are fun, and most importantly, it still makes me laugh no matter how many times I watch it.

If you're looking for a nice mindless, escapist, madcap, family-friendly piece of late-seventies entertainment, I recommend this movie.

Although it wasn't a commercial success, I was pleased to learn that it was a pleasant shoot for the actors, director, and creative teams.

As for the DVD bonuses, I was disappointed in the director's commentary. He doesn't really say much that is enlightening and often repeats himself, and there's even about 15 minutes where he stops talking altogether. I did enjoy the two short interviews with cast members Richard Benjamin and Richard Masur. Those were interesting, and I wish more of the surviving cast members could have participated. I wish there had been more of that in the director's commentary.

All in all, though, I'm very pleased to finally have a DVD copy of one of my favorite guilty pleasure movies.

Only problem with this movie is ordering it! This product page has two totally different movies of the same name linked. This is the Richard Benjamin version. The one with the eagle on the cover is totally different. The Amazon Video link is the wrong movie. The 2013 DVD version link is the wrong movie. Only the January 2017 movie is right. Totally confusing! Having both movies in this same review section is just as confusing.

Very silly movie that really isn't meant to be anything else. A lot of big name stars (for the time it was made, anyway) acting very silly with one group being very bad (expected) and a lot of others just fumbling along and finally joining forces against the one.

It's just about as meaningless as you can get but is a lot of fun. Stealing a toilet without turning off the water first? Getting locked in a chemistry lab and being rescued because of a reaction causing a tidal wave of foam? 5 ostriches being stolen? Decapitating a clown (they needed the head) and then bowing to the witnesses? Is there any sense at all in any of these? NO! They're not meant to have any sense. It's just as totally meaningless as you can get and just as much fun to watch.

I've been trying to replace my VHS copy of this move for about 5 years and I grabbed at the chance when it finally came readily available!

It's an older movie from like late 70's early 80's. It's a little cheesy but it was a fun movie. Saw this years ago and bought it because I had a vague memory. I still enjoyed it even today.

Saw this movie as a kid and have always wondered about it but never could seem to find it. Then, tadah!!! Great quality! Fun to watch again as an adult.

Great comedy and not well known. Many cameos from well known actors of the time. Great movie for gamers, since it is about paying one, and a wonderful twist at the end.

This is a movie I've wanted on DVD for DECADES, and when it finally goes digital.....pfffffft....they jump straight to Blu-Ray. I don't even have a Blu-Ray player, so I watch it on my son's Xbox. The resolution is SO FAR BEYOND my VHS copy that I'm speechless, and a little taken aback. I mean, it's so clear, it looks like video tape (think soap opera type video, only pure digital). The 'brownness' of it (70s movie-brown, I mean) is gone, replaced by what looks like a digital camera that follows the stars around, and reminds me of a PERFECT DIGITAL version of behind the scenes action, which is weird (to me), b/c I LIKE the 70s brown that still shows up on DVDs of movies and TV from that era.

I've yet to see/listen to the extra features, tho I'm excited to b/c I'd like to hear more behind the scenes stuff about one of my favorite movies of the 70s. It's a goofy film, but good natured all the way, and there are some REALLY FUNNY scenes in it and I recommend it to everyone, particularly those who can set aside being stuck in whatever present (tense) you're in at the time and enjoy this comedy for all the good things it contains.

I bought the blu-ray version of Scavenger Hunt. The video and audio were excellent. Not gonna say it is a pirated copy, but it is not a copy that was released by the movie studio. It is on a Blu-ray Disc, but it is not technically a blu-ray movie, as it was only ever released on VHS. I cannot speak to the quality of the DVD version, but for a few dollars more I would recommend the blu-ray version. The quality was better than a VHS version. Five stars for this blu-ray version.

As for the story line of the movie, it is not the same as It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, as some other reviewers have mentioned. It has crazy characters like Mad World, but a different storyline. I also love Mad World. Comparing it to Mad World is like comparing Dances With Wolves to Avatar, or Water World to The Road Warrior. Scavenger Hunt is still a timeless classic like Galaxy Quest, Scrooged, Elf, and Let’s Go to Prison.
