CBD: A Patient's Guide to Medicinal Cannabis--Healing without the High Kindle Edition

4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 638 ratings

The essential book on CBD as medicine

This practical, accessible guide to using CBD-dominant cannabis contains a wealth of information for both first-time explorers and experienced patients who want to know more about safely treating a number of health conditions with remarkable results and low to no psychoactivity or negative side effects. CBD (cannabidiol) is a component of cannabis that can provide relief for conditions such as seizures, pain, inflammation, anxiety, depression, arthritis, and a number of other issues. This book offers guidance on various forms of the medicine such as oil infusions, alcohol-based tinctures, capsules, and CO2 concentrated extracts. The information is organized by health condition and also by recommended CBD-rich strains, which do not produce the "highs" associated with THC. With dosage suggestions, potential side effects and contraindications, and the pharmacology of the plant, this is an essential guide for both doctors and patients looking for a nontoxic alternative to opiate-based pain medications and other pharmaceuticals.

While cannabis has been used for medicinal and recreational purposes for thousands of years, only in the last fifty years have scientists begun to shed light on the chemistry of the plant and its interactions with the human body. Research has led to the discovery of a whole new system in the body, the endocannabinoid system, which plays a role in mediating functions such as appetite, immunity, mood, pain response, and memory. The authors present case studies, interviews with doctors who prescribe cannabidiol products, and the latest research regarding other active phytocannabinoids and terpenoids present in cannabis that are being studied for medical use. They also address the difference between CBD products derived from industrial hemp or in a lab, versus those made from medical marijuana using the whole plant.

In addition to offering the most up-to-date and comprehensive information on CBD-dominant cannabis therapy for humans, this book is the first to offer guidance for using the medicine for animals, with suggestions for dosage and delivery and useful forms and strains for common health issues in pets. Finally, the authors take a look at the future of cannabis medicine, charting trends in the legalization movement and suggesting how CBD might be used to fight the opioid epidemic.

—Joel Samuels, MD

“In my practice of pain medicine, I have witnessed the positive impact that cannabis can have on chronic pain. It is increasingly evident that it provides a safer alternative to opioids. The breadth and scope of this book is impressive. The historical perspective is most interesting and the technical information deeply informative.”

Review from the author of "The CBD Primer"
This is a comprehensive collection of information about the healing properties of CBD, and the best book available to understand CBD (cannabidiol) and its wide impact on dozens of health conditions. The book has over 400 citations of scientific and medical research, yet it is readable by anyone seeking helpful answers about medical cannabis. There are plenty of books available about THC (the "get high" molecule) and its impact. This book focuses on the healing power of CBD – the "get well" molecule. It also covers THC and the entourage effect, and its importance in treating health problems. The book has information and recommendations on dozens of specific diseases and health conditions. It also contains dosage recommendations for all kinds of people – even pets. The book has more 15 5-star reviews from medical doctors, health professionals, and people deeply involved in the medical cannabis industry. It's comprehensive enough to be used as a textbook, yet any reader can find the information they are looking for. Highly recommended!I am the author of the eBook, "The CBD Primer," and was a contributor to this book, so my opinion is a little prejudiced. Don't take my word for it - read the reviews on the cover and inside the book.

CBD – A Patient’s Guide to Medicinal Cannabis is very highly recommended.

This authoritative resource is a must-read for anyone wishing to learn about what all the hype is regarding medicinal cannabis and particularly about CBD (its non psycho-active component) that can significantly help with many health issues which traditional western medicine is not able to: western medicine is all about profit and health “management” (using a whole slew of artificial chemical drugs), it is not about actual healing, big pharma purposefully keeps us sick in order to sell us all those drugs and to keep us on them.

This new and well researched 317 page book is clearly written and easy to follow.

Many advanced medical studies from around the world have confirmed multiple times the many healing properties of CBD - so much so, that here in the States, big pharma is rushing to cash in and create an artificial chemical “equivalent” to natural CBD. This big pharma CBD however is unlikely to work well because the natural synergy workings of all the combined phytocannabinoids (100+ identified so far) that are likely needed to work and really heal would be completely lost in the artificial CBD-only pill they plan to produce.
By the way, cannabis has been used medicinally for over 5000 years.
Thank you and kudos for this timely text.

I had no idea there was so much development in the field of Cannabis and CBD production. I discovered this easy to read book about the topic at a poignant time in my life. It has led me into the ever-growing development and discovery of Cannabis and all the components of the subject. I had no idea the science around cannabis and its many and ever-progressing scientific knowledge had progressed to this level until I dug into this book. I am very grateful to the kind hearts that devoted their lives to helping others through this miracle plant and all its beneficial medicinal qualities. Terpenes were revelatory. I am learning so many different properties and potential of cannabis in the treatment of p.t.s.d. and on and on. If you are looking to deepen the 'knowledge pockets' of your mind, then dig in and grab this book. Not too heady and riddled with jargon that it's inaccessible. Many thanks to this brilliant and well executed work of science!

I feel so fortunate to have discovered this marvelous resource. This book is a gift. It is a clear and concise primer for anyone, who like me, is a late bloomer in the study of CBD. I have practiced homeopathy for decades but am very motivated to learn all I can about this amazing plant medicine. Leonard Leinow imparts a lifetime of information in this detailed guide and provides you with all the information you need to get started on your journey. You will learn everything you need to about different strains and dosing methods and the entourage effect and what conditions are responsive to CBD. With the suppression of scientific studies in the USA due to the Class A Narcotics scheduling of THC/ Marijuana, we are way behind other countries, like Israel, where CBD is in regular clinical application for everything from the diseases common to aging, MS, seizure disorders and so much more. I downloaded it on my iPad and bought a copy to lend to friends and skeptics alike.

This is a state-of-the-art go-to for all questions CBD. It’s a unique reference guide, loaded with advice on how and why to use this medicine, and the latest scientific research in this fast-evolving field.
It’s for those who’ve wondered what to do, facing so many choices.
One might wonder such things as: Is this product clean or even organic, and how would one really know? How safe is it, and when? What percentage of CBD vs. THC is in certain strain of CBD? What is CBD, anyway, and what effects can it have? Health-wise? Head-wise? How long can it last? How do you take it? Does the answer depend on what strain you buy, or amount you take, or method of taking it? Does it matter who you buy from? Is there a “right” dose? And what can one expect, and over what time period?

Readers will also get stories of how others have used CBD for healing, and examples and templates to apply for their own situations. Truly a landmark book.
