Fast, safe, and EASY to use
Ordered these at the same time as as the electric starting tool and these are far easier to use. They are very easy to light and move around a charcoal bed. Within 10 mins I had a full Green Egg XL lit up:). I will use these everytime i light up the egg!

I gotta tell you these Wooly Woods are the bomb. Read about them online and thought I'd give em a try. NOT compressed sawdust and wax. Not wax plugs like some others. The wood is like long thin spiral strips all compressed together with some sort of wax like binding that is flammable. Each one is pretty large, so you can easily get away with just 1. They light very easily and burn longer than others I tried. I know $19 bucks seems expensive on the surface, BUT there are 36 in a bag. (.53 ea) One (1) will lite my Large Big Green Egg lump charcoal no problem. I use 2 if I'm in a bigger hurry to get cooking. Primo starters are $14 for 24 count (.58 ea) and I use 2. BGE starters are $17 for 24 count (.71 ea). The Weber 7417 FireStarters are my 2nd favorite mainly due to price $4 for 24 count (.17 ea), but you always need 2 or 3. They are in a sealed punch card and can't dry out or they turn to powder. They are kinda fragile. They are less convenient for me to punch out of a blister pack, taking care to not damage the one next to it. At this point I don't see myself experimenting with any others. These Woolywood's are economical, bigger and work better that the others. So I've finally found the right lump charcoal starters for me. ;-)

We have an electric lighter for our Big Green Egg but these work even better. During a power outage, we discovered the need for lightning help, but we wanted something without chemicals. The search and wasted money began. The hard squares and cylinders are useless. The kindling like sticks were even worse. The reviews I read for Wooly Woods were spot on. These things are fantastic!! The search is over! We use these even when we have electricity. They really speed up the lighting process and that speeds up food getting to my plate!!

Disappointed in the effort needed to light the fire starter and then it just smoldered instead of producing a nice flame. I do not recommend this product to start a charcoal fire in the grill.

Just used my new starters today on a small chimney of coals for my pit barrel cooker. They work great. Burns very clean and hardly any residue afterwards. Very good product, and portable for camping and hunting trips.

I needed 3 of these placed in a tripod to get them to light and I had to hold the flame on them for 30 seconds to a minute to get them started. Another brand I have used in the past lit as soon as the flame was put on it. I have to use three of these to start a fire and only one of the other brand that has the same appearance. I really cannot recommend this product. The only reason it did not get a one star rating is because, with some effort it will eventually light and start a fire. I was using the product to start lump charcoal in my Green Egg.

have tried a few charcoal starters. this is my favorite by far. burns long enough to get charcoal going well and is the fasted and easiest to light of all the products i have tried. i have ordered more to make sure i have enough on hand (i grill at least 3 times a week), and also to give a bag to my brother. even if not using a ceramic grill/smoker, get away from lighter fluid which leaves food tasting like kerosene. this is a much better way to go for any type grill

These work much better than the mylar packs or Weber cubes. I kinda wish they were either smaller or separated into 1/2 the size, but otherwise they work great. Strong heat, lights coals, and no added flavor (I don't cook on these) or odors.
