If you liked these guys from the late 70's, early 80's, this is a great CD. The main thing that stood out to me was the remastering. This CD sounds as good as it gets for such an old recording. These guys sound so mellow and clear. The sound is precise and full across the lows to the highs. I am impressed how great it sounds.

He enjoys it very much...great sound and great song choices!

You know, I can remember the first time I hear "I'd Really Love to See You Tonight," and it was when I went to visit a family down in Livingston, on a farm, in California. The older son was singing one of the songs. The one I mention above. I remember the melody and the words were so inviting. And this was a "non-singer" attracting me to the song. Imagine how I felt when I finally heard the song.

And just about every other hit by this team has been at the top of my 70's Top Pop list. I carry around 4 or 5 of their songs on my PSP MP3 player. They songs are so sweet and relaxing. My guilty pleasure.

Has anyone noticed that very rarely (I think never) have any of their songs been featured in soundtracks in movies. My very good friend, Bobby Asslong, and I have discussed this for hours on the phone, as we choke back tears and reminisce about the good old days, the late 70's and early 80's. If only for one day, I could return to that rural pasture, and listen to my older, wiser friend sing those lovely diddys. I would be in heaven.

EDIT 12/19/1006: Just bought this form Amazon.com recently. Received it yesterday. Can't wait to pull it out, and listen to it. Ahh, my guilty pleasure.

... that's the problem with,"Best Of' & 'Very Best Of' releases these days-they're not. 'Greatest Hits' are usually right on, but collecting all the singles shouldn't be rocket science. Still from time to time on 'GH' collections, there is a song or two missing that the hardest of hard core fans will belly-ache about, and deservedly so, at times.

But with 'VBO' & 'BO' collections, the tracks should not only be the hits, but other popular tracks that were not singles, but could of been. These tracks are on just about every album released, but usually are ignored come compilation time. In the case of this release it happens to be songs from the duo's 1971 debut and follow-up, "Fables", from 1972. Neither are available on cd-yet. Also, a "Half" album called, "I Hear The Music", released in 1976, as their popularity was beginning to soar, featured 4 songs from their self-titled debut album, plus 6 more from 1973 that were supposed to be on an album to follow-up "Fables", called, "Lengendary Captain", that never materialized.

These were two fine albums, and "Fables" received a fair amount of FM radio play. If you can find these in LP form, buy them.

As far as this "VBO" compilation, it is a good one, but sorely lacking these 8 songs from the above mentioned, '2 & 1/2' albums:

From the debut album, & featured on the "I Hear Music"collection:

    -"New Jersey"

-"Mud And Stone"; I consider this ED&JFC's best song. The harmonries and arrangements are superb. Michael Johnson used to do a killer cover of this song in his concerts.

    --------------------------------------

From the "I Hear Music" album:

    -"Used to You"

    -"Legendary Captain"

    -"Carry On"

    ---------------------------------------

    From "Fables":

    -"Simone"

    -"Candles Of Our Lives"

-"What I'm Doing", This tune got a lot of FM radio time, as well it deserved. A great song that could of been a single, and a middle 8 that rocks. Almost a Moody Blueish quality to it.

-"Stay By The River", Another great tune that could of been a single. The electric sitar intro, rhythm & lead by Louie Shelton are worth the price of admission alone. A very uptempo and spiritual song that will stay with you for a long time after you hear it.

So... inclusion of these currently hard-to-find gems, would really give us that "Very Best Of" title and get me to smilen' like a cat spittin' feathers, again...

England Dan was actually Dan Seals, who eventually achieved success as a solo country singer in the eighties, and was also a cousin of Johnny Duncan, a country singer of the seventies. Another cousin, Troy Seals, became a successful songwriter. Dan's brother, Jim, was one half of Seals and Croft. In contrast, John Ford Coley was a classically trained piano player. They met in the sixties but they had no real success until 1976, when this collection of their music begins.
Their first and biggest hit, I'd really love to see you tonight, was the sort of song you might expect to hear from Bread. It reached number two in the American pop charts. The follow-up, Nights are forever without you, also made the top ten. Despite this promising start, they only had a few more hits. We'll never have to say goodbye again and Love is the answer both made the top ten. It's sad to belong and Gone too far made the top thirty. What can I do with this broken heart just made the top fifty. In Britain, their chart record was almost non-existent.
This collection contains all their pop hits, plus the best of their other music, including a couple of singles that were minor hits on the adult contemporary chart. They split in 1980, after which Dan was a successful country singer, but that music is outside the scope of this collection. John has done little of note since the split.
England Dan and John Ford Coley made some great music that should appeal to fans of Bread in particular, but also to fans of great seventies pop music in general.

Review of the music CD "The Very Best of England Dan & John Ford Coley}". I have always loved the music that this duo produced over the 10 years that the worked together. Their music was always in an up tempo, positive mind set, which I so deeply appreciated. Their cover of the great Todd Rundgren song "Love Is The Answer - Light of the World" is such a poignant, powerful plea for all of humanity to truly have the mindset that we know instinctively is what our Creator would have us hold in dealing with one another throughout life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Clever lyrics and musical scores set the duo apart from most other pop stars of the era. 9.5 out of 10.

Could be fooled into believing this is an English duo, who are in fact American pop artists. Clever lyrics and musical scores set them apart from most other pop stars of the era. Soft and silky melodies are evident throughout their works. In the hey day of their recording I honestly would not pay much attention to them because I tended to listen to more rock, blues, and country styles of music. Age creeps up and I find myself being drawn to a plethora of styles that I have been exposed to in the past, but really ignored. I am enjoying rediscovering the pop, folk, and even bubble-gum world of music too. This easy listening, sing along album is really good. 9.5 out of 10.

Eine schöne CD mit vielen titeln aus den 70er Jahren. Leider ist dieses Duo hier in Deutschland relativ unbekannt. Dan Seals ist ja bereits verstorben aber die Songs leben ewig weiter. Ein Hit: Love is the answer (Todd Rundgren)

After hunting for years for this CD I decided to check out whether Amazon stocked it. Yippee, they did. I came yesterday. I cannot praise it enough - fantastic lyrics and music. Takes me back to the 70s.

I have just placed an order for another 'must have' CD - The Best of Helen Reddy. Can't wait for that to arrive either!!

Thanks Amazon for stocking all those hard to get items and making it easy for us hunters!!
