- Reviewed in the United States on June 9, 2024Beautifully done movie by Adam Nimoy in honor of his Father. Interviews with friends and coworkers. Enjoyed it. Also Includes a tour of Leonard Nimoy’s Boston with Mr. Nimoy and his son Adam(this May only be on the directors cut, not sure). Worth the money! A moist for fans!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 10, 2016I grew up on Star Trek. Spock was family. I always felt encouraged to observe, research, study, look up at the stars, and most of all, dream. Who knows how much was just Spock's influence alone? In the end, both Spock and Nimoy are family to me. I do remember him once tweeting that he was adopting us all as his grandkids. There are no words for what that meant to me, even though I was just a drop in the twitter follower ocean, but as silly as it is, I never realized how much I needed that. I had always hoped I'd get a chance to meet him and thank him for being such an inspiration in my life. Grandpa Leonard. Haha. Thank you for your passion, thank you for following it wherever it lead, thank you for being you.
One of the absolute best things about this film, is that it was headed by his son, and not someone trying to make a profit off the death of a man that meant the universe to so many. There is a lot of heart in it. So well done. It was hard to not smile and cry all at once through so much. Thank you for sharing your father with the world, Adam, and then sharing more in this film.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 6, 2024An excellent documentary by Leonard Nimoy's son. Very professionally done, great interviews with people who knew and loved Leonard over the years. Have watched this many times.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 13, 2016I grew up with the original Star Trek series and I loved all the members of the cast because I felt growing up I felt like a loner, like I didn't belong. But, once a week I was able to feel what it felt like to belong to a place in the future where everyone was a special individual. Infinite possibilities, infinite diversity. Just listening to the music brings me back to when I was 12. AND, Star Trek taught me that it was okay to be me. The last episode gave a name to what I was feeling, that although I was female gendered, I had always felt like I was male; and although at the time there wasn't a machine that could transport my being into a male body, it gave me confidence that someday in the future, being a trans man would be possible; and now at age 60, I am living as a trans man. Thank you Star Trek for giving what I felt inside the words to make that feeling a reality !! Thank you Adam !! Thank you Leonard !! Thank you Spock !! Thank you for the loving !!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 19, 2016Lovingly produced and directed, this is a must for anyone who grew up with TOS. Incudes interviews with some pretty impressive folks who talk about what Spock meant to them, and how meaningful having an outsider as a front-and-center character was for a whole generation of viewers. While this film is full of love, it avoids the cliche of painting its subject as a perfect specimen - Nimoy's battle with alcohol, his strained relationship wth his son, the end of his first marriage....it's all here, which is refreshing. Unlike the iconic spcharacter associated with him, he was all too human. A fine tribute to a man and a character who have left a deep impact innour culture.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 11, 2016Screw Brian Lowry at CNN. His disinterest and his disdain for the movie are very apparent as is his fake praise for the movie. He says that the personal struggles present by the film's director and his father "is such a well worn cliche" sounds like it minimizes what WE know as people the struggle to relate to our own parents. Fine, maybe in the movie world it IS a cliche, but this movie is personal and honest. Cliches exist for a reason. That reason being that they can be found to occur often in real life. This film isn't about trying to present a fictional story with new an interesting ideas. It is about presenting an honest representation of a person many of us know and respect. Cliche or not, Leonard was much like our own parents plus some added aspects about Hollywood.
So from me to Brian Lowry, "F U! You have NO idea what this film was about or what it means to be a real person. Sounds to me like you were looking for a fantasy and got realism and that realism sucks hard because you don't know how to live in it."
- Reviewed in the United States on February 15, 2023Fan of the original series and most the movies they made after the series ended. My favorite was The Voyage Home. I especially loved when Scotty showed the engineer how to create. Transparent Aluminum which has recently been introduced as Alon or aluminum oxynitride. I think Leonard would be very proud of his son for having created such a magnificent tribute to his most iconic character. Looking forward to seeing what additional gems Adam will create in his career.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 10, 2017Adam Nimoy did an outstanding job of documenting his father's life and legacy. I have heard cast members of Star Trek speak of Leonard Nimoy and how he was such a generous and compassionate man. Actors never want to be type-cast and pigeon-holed into one character, and LN is no different, even going so far as to write a book called "I Am Not Spock." However, he seemed to realize that he was a part of something so much bigger than any one of the individuals that were involved. Some of the cast have enjoyed success in other facets of their careers, LN among them. But they all always seem to circle back to ST sooner or later. Eventually LN would embrace his Vulcan alter-ego as much as the rest of the world had, and following up with another book entitled, "I Am Spock." In the end you come away from the documentary realizing Leonard Nimoy was just a man, a husband, a father, and a friend that had a really cool job for much of his life. Lucky guy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Consiglio per i fan di Nimoy
Un documentario molto bello che rivela l'amore e l'ammirazione che il figlio Adam ha per il padre Leonard. Lo consiglio veramente, per chiunque abbia apprezzato Nimoy come uomo e come attore, non solo come Spock.

1.0 out of 5 stars PAS DE SOUS-TITRES EN FRANCAIS
J'ai dû retourner le DVD au vendeur car le dvd n'a qu'un sous-titrage en ALLEMAND, et je ne parle pas cette langue.
c'est désespérant, je ne trouve aucun dvd sous-titré en français. Dommage.

5.0 out of 5 stars loved it - weepy fan nostalgia
I have been a great fan of Spock/Leonard Nimoy since I first saw him in what is still considered one of the best episodes of tos - 'City on the Edge ...'. I was making dinner and walked past my husband who was watching it (in black and white!) - when Kirk was explaining Spock's ears to the NYPD! - and I asked my husband WHY the ears? - and he said 'he's supposed to be an alien.' I watched the rest of the show, including the slashy bit where Edith said his place was at Kirk's side forever - I think that episode absolutely summed up why people love the character and the series and I watched every other episode after that. In those days we accepted two men could feel deeply for each other without immediately thinking they must be gay - and we could also believe that most people were basically good, and that the human race was improving - I guess a lot of the appeal of Spock is a nostalgia for the good. It was fascinating to see an intimate picture of the man behind the character - I particularly enjoyed seeing him as a fun father, husband, and DIY whiz before he got involved with alcohol - and that father and son came alright in the end.
