Product Description

In this outrageous comedy from the writers of The Hangover, Amy (Mila Kunis) has a seemingly perfect life—a great marriage, over-achieving kids, a beautiful home and a career. However she's over-worked, over-committed and exhausted to the point that she's about to snap. Fed up, she joins forces with two other over-stressed moms (Kristen Bell and Kathryn Hahn) on a quest to liberate themselves from conventional responsibilities—going on a wild, un-mom-like binge of long overdue freedom, fun and self-indulgence—putting them on a collision course with PTA Queen Bee Gwendolyn (Christina Applegate) and her clique of devoted perfect moms (Jada Pinkett Smith and Annie Mumolo). See the movie that critics are cheering as "…a funny, giddy, sentimental laugh-in…" - Manohla Dargis, The New York Times.

I don't watch many comedies, but the trailer seemed to indicate that the movie would be funny throughout. I was very satisfied with my choice. Bad Moms isn't silly, but has a pleasant hilarity throughout the film. My interest didn't fade, nor did the plot. Acting is superb. Each actor handles the comedic level of their role perfectly. It's a fun movie - not too weighty with serious issues. A very good watch.

Bad Moms is an ensemble cast comedy led by Mila Kunis (from That 70s Show), who plays Amy Mitchell who kicks her husband out of the when she discovers he is cheating on her. Amy then has to navigate trying to raise her two kids, work as a sales rep, and deal with the PTA of her kid's school, led by an overbearing Gwendolyn James, played by Married With Children's Christina Applegate. The movie essentially breaks down to Amy and her group, Carla, played by Katherine Hahn (who steals every scene she is in), and Kiki, played by Kristen Bell who plays a great reserved stay-at-home mom, versus Gwendolyn's group Stacy, played by Jada Pinkett Smith, and Vicky, Annie Mumolo.

The movie is good, but definitely not perfect. I think both Applegate and Bell's comedic talents are a bit underused in the movie, mostly because of the way their characters are written. Kunis and Hahn, however, do a good job doing the comedy heavy lifting. Hahn's character is a bit of a cliche, but thankfully she is used somewhat sparingly so she can really take over when she is included.

For those who get the blu-ray, the A/V quality is okay, but the video quality is definitely not as good as it could be. Of course, the movie does not have a bunch of CGI effects, but the image does not look as nice as a movie from 2015 should. There are a handful of extras including a short gag reel, just under 20 minutes of deleted scenes, and about 23 minutes worth of interview material with the cast members and their mothers, some of which made it into the end credits of the movie.

Overall, the movie is good to very good. As is the case with many of today's comedies, it definitely leans more toward the raunchy end of the spectrum (especially when Hahn is on screen), and some of the jokes can fall a bit flat. But, on the whole, it tells a fun story and the cast had (or faked) good chemistry. So, while I would not call it a must-see, if you are in the mood for a more adult comedy, this is worth checking out.

Notice I didn't just say women, because I know there are some men who are single parents too.

Lots of great one liners, a bit naughty, so just a warning.

    YES! YES! YES!
Having lived through being on the PTO/PTA and essentially run off by the president for wanting to put my foot down and say no to some decisions I couldn't wait to see this movie! Unfortunately I am very much like Kristen Bells character Kiki. Except not as dingy. Lack of friends means I waited until it came out on DVD and watched it today (10/18/16) the second it was available. I don't remember a movie that I have laughed so hard at. As mothers we are held at such a high standard and have absolutely unrealistic expectations put on us but mostly we do it to ourselves. This movie brings all of that into light and lets us see that we don't have to be perfect, we don't have to have these unrealistic expectations, we don't all have to be Pinterest moms. The term "Bad Moms" is used because if one isn't perfect, doesn't adhere to the unrealistic expectations that they are a bad mom. But we aren't. We do our best, love our kids, and as mothers we aren't perfect. We each have our strengths and weaknesses (I don't play with my kids...I am that mom at the playground with her nose tucked in a book or on my phone...but I do make killer birthday cakes and put on amazing parties for my kids) and we need to embrace those. Motherhood isn't fun if we have to be perfect all the time. Embrace your bad mom side, stop thinking you have to be perfect! THAT is the message this moving is sending. In the most hilarious way! Loved every second of it!

I love this. It's gotten a lot of smack for not being the epitome of a "bad mom", and I'm not a mom myself, but I feel like it's one of those things that are meant to take the woes of life (in this case: motherhood) and add some laughs and smiles.

Being estranged from my mom, it was good to see what may stereotypically be seen as a "bad mom", in that it kinda softens the blow. Movies like this, with heartwarming heart stories and magnetic flowing rivers, help heal me a little more each time. Not every mom thinks their child's their competition.

I also enjoyed this quite a lot, because my paternal side of the fam is so conventional and makes life all about procreating, and it was nice to see moms can still have their fun, too. I loved the casting; Bell and Kunis were already favorites, and seeing them together brought up a whole new kind of fun (and favorite).

I rated this 3.5/5 because there were some times when I felt the humor was a bit forced, as if the creators were trying to milk it for all the laughs possible. It wasn't solely a comedy, as there were some romantic and unfortunate bits in it, too, but I think there's a fine line between what is actually funny and overdoing it.
