Playtime for a blossoming scientist!
Bought this as a Christmas present for my almost 8 year old niece because she had decided this year that she no longer had a need for "toys" given her age! Quite the old soul this one. She took a bit of pause when she first unwrapped the gift, leaving me to think my wife and I overreached with her age, but once she wrapped her head around what she was looking at, she was all in!She quickly went from a little kid opening presents to inquisitive scientist, explaining to the entire family exactly what new slide was under observation. Obviously it took a little assisting in getting her up to speed on what the various dials do, different magnifications and related adjustments, etc, but once you get past that hurdle, the curiosity takes off! We also bought the supplemental set of slides by the same manufacturer to put this microscope immediately to work. The microscope is pretty light and all plastic, but presents well and is a good price point for the overall build.

This Microscope is great. Usually spoil great Grandson with something when he comes over. Got this from Amazon and according to the reviews I expected it was a piece of junk, might last an hour. Was almost ashamed I only paid $7.99 for it. My Grandson and his son were here and I gave it to G Grandson who is almost 4. It works perfectly and is made pretty well. They both played with it for the next 2-3 hours no problem. They were getting bugs off the pool cover and were thoroughly entertained. I looked through it and it was like looking through any decent Microscope. Can't understand how anyone could complain. What do you want for the price? Don't let kids tear up the box, it's a great place to safely hold everything.
A few said they couldn't see anything through it. The eyepiece cover doesn't look like it's there. It goes down over it and has what looks like a hole in the spot you look through. One wouldn't really see it, unless you knew it was there. I read a review that mentioned it so I knew. It was kinda snug coming off and I was afraid I would break it before anyone used it, again, no problem. Came right off. Be SURE to REMOVE THE COVER!
Was also surprised how good the stuff that came with it is. Not sure how many slides came with it, I think 4. Little boxes to store stuff in and the plastic tweezers were great. Was happy to see it is all plastic except for the clips that hold the slides in place, so G Grandson wasn't going to get cut if he dropped a slide. Very light, he won't throw it through a window.
The light that people were complaining about was more than ample. Do they want a blinding light? It's perfect!
I don't work for this company or get anything for this review. I'm just saying,, Buy this for a kid and watch them be amazed!

This little kit was an interesting find when I was talking to my niece and nephew about different insects we found in my back yard. I was trying to explain about their function within the ecosystem. They expressed interest in getting a microscope and I saw this one was inexpensive and gave some nice accessories to get them started. No special bells and whistles here and it feels a little cheap, but it works. I only wish it had a more powerful magnification. What can you expect for the price though.

I was excited to buy my daughters a microscope that didn't look like it was your cheesy kids toy microscope. The plastic is thin and the entire microscope feels cheaply made - the stand is even slightly off balance. The one slide it did come with has been hard to focus in on. The other odds and ends it came with are of terrible quality.
As for the complaints on the lighting, we experienced the exact opposite of a dull yellow light. The light is actually so bright my children and I experienced temporary blindness after looking away from the microscope. I have to limit how much they look into it because of it.
This has been a great tool for my daughters, as they learn to adjust the magnification and focus in and out. I won't feel terrible when it inevitably breaks since it wasn't good quality, however it will serve its purpose for as long as possible.

This stupid thing is a piece of garbage. When we first got it, I lifted the box and my heart dropped. It was so lightweight, I knew we were in trouble. Sure enough, I took it out of the box and, yep, it's a crappy piece of cheap plastic. Tried to look through it and couldn't see anything. Using the knobs to try to bring it into focus made me really nervous- I thought they would break off. For sure if my kids used this in a normal way kids play with things, those dinky knobs would be broken in about a day. My eight year old daughter wants a microscope for Christmas and she said she wants a nice one, not a dinky plastic one. Whoops! I thought with all the amazing reviews that she'd be okay with the plastic, because I thought it would be high quality. But this thing is obviously, just upon first glance, cheaply made. I'm returning it, and getting her a nicer, metal-based one. You get what you pay for, I guess.
One last thing that makes this stupid product even worse. I didn't notice until I went to return it, but it doesn't have free returns, at least not from this seller. So I'm out $6.40 for a crappy piece of garbage that I'm not even keeping. Save your return fee and use that extra cash to buy something a little more expensive, and with a lot more quality. Totally irritated.

I teach middle school biology and have these microscopes for my students. Though they are lightweight plastic, they function very well and certainly much better than what you would expect for the price. We usually use 1200x magnification when comparing plant and animal cells with my first year students, whereas with my second year students we are comparing different types of tissues (muscle, organ, bone, etc.) None of the microscopes have broken and none of the students have any trouble getting their specimens in clear focus. Before I found these, the whole class would have to take turns with the microscope. Now I can afford to have 1 microscope for every 2 students. Very grateful to have found these.
