I bought this after meeting this father and son, who conducted a hike and cultural experience on their Molokai property. With some of our family living in Honolulu, my husband and I had been to Hawaii several times and seen the major (overdeveloped) tourist islands. Last winter, we chose to try Molokai, and tour the national park associated with the former leper colony (another great experience...reserve the mule ride). We decided to add this father and son's hike on the last day of our stay, and were so glad we did. It was the most authentic Hawaiian experience we've ever had. I'm grateful to have met this inspiring duo. Watching the video brought back good memories, while giving me more of their background and philosophy about preserving their heritage. I enjoyed the traditional music, as well! This video is important and enjoyable to watch whether or not people go on their hike in Molokai, and I'm glad I've done both!

After a recent visit to Moloka’i, I wanted to learn more about the culture and history of the Halawa Valley. The DVD definitely delivers on that--and a lot more. What stayed with me was everyone’s honest sharing of their lives. Woven within the history and culture were universal themes like how the weight of life’s events you always carry with you; the understanding of belonging and purpose; choices, wisdom gained, guilt lost; hope, and acceptance of what will be. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I purchased the DVD and I really liked it.
