Editorial Reviews
Behold the Deluxe ATO Records Re-Issue of My Morning Jacket's third full-length effort. This Deluxe version is remastered and remixed with 13 previously unreleased B-sides and Demos taken from the original recording sessions. While the gorgeous amalgam of the Band's vision of country/Americana and Neil Young's blend of folk and rock are everywhere present, there is a new textural awareness evident on It Still Moves. The album is often considered the band's best work alongside Z.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 23, 2023All MMJ music is great!!!! Owned all albums on cd and wanted the vinyl to go with. This is a very colorful and well made vinyl album. Looks just like the pics. Will not disappoint.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 23, 2005Many will want to call My Morning Jacket alternative country or something like that but to listen to their albums, including It Still Moves, is to be carried away by longing and ache that transcends any genre. First, the voice, full of crooning melancholy. Second, the instrumentation, full of lush authentic sounds. Now for It Still Moves, their newest release, which I think is a great introduction to this band. There are at least eight catchy tunes on this gorgeously produced album. Full of beautiful ballads and laments, the album is never depressing. About three songs are more fast-paced rocker songs, but I like the slow and mid-tempo ones the best. If you like this aching crooning "emotional pop rock," you might check out Ronderlin, the Innocence Mission, the Trashcan Sinatras, Silver Screen (first album The Greatest Story Not Told), Lloyd Cole (especially Don't Get Weird on Me, Babe), and Keane. I love these aforementioned bands but I must say My Morning Jacket is my current favorite. Bold and original, they've paved their own niche.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 18, 2010I've been listening to My Morning Jacket for a little over three years. I was immediately impressed by them, and bought a couple of their albums. I have come to believe that my taste in music is very similar to most of my friends; classic rock, older country, some alt rock, metal, but when I introduced My Morning Jacket to my friends, they wanted nothing to do with it. I couldn't believe that they didn't find it good, at all. But I slowly started playing it at my house during campfires and get togethers. Soon everyone asked me to play it more and soon after that my buddies had their own copies. It Still Moves is such a great bunch of tunes. It's everything you can ask for in music; hard rock, twang, soul, foot tapping, head nodding stuff. I love it and will continue to buy My Morning Jacket albums. Just listen to it and give it time, it will grow on you, and it's a feel good ripper album, man.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 15, 2009This is an amazing album. There are albums with a mix of good and bad songs. Then there are albums with all great songs that just don't flow together. This album has some good songs and some great songs but the most impressive part is how well they all flow and fit together. The whole is better than the sum of it's parts. The songs are long and laid back. They are etherial versions of songs reminiscent of "The Band" with a twangy country tinge that keeps them out of the 3 Doors Down category of music that doesn't matter. (Sorry 3 Doors).
Try just sitting in ambient light and relaxing or talking with a friend while listening. Good music for the end of the night.
It may be my favorite album in the last 5 years. Perhaps 10.

Images in this review - Reviewed in the United States on December 1, 2003I've heard claims that this is their greatest work to date. Having finally moved to a major record label I think we were all nervous that their style would change dramatically due to the move; however, we find that their alt. country music is still made using the same production techniques (i.e. in an old grain silo.) The sounds on this album are beautiful and full just as with their previous work. The song writing and lyrical composition is still strong, but I still don't feel as an entire album it's as strong as their debut, At Dawn. However, this album does contain my two favorite MMJ songs to date, so I can't complain too much. The reason I don't feel it's as strong as At Dawn may be in part to their slight stylistic change over the years, and the sounds that existed on At Dawn may simply never resurface and this new My Morning Jacket is here to stay. Taking their original country roots and adding in some modern rock features on their latest EPs and this album, likely derived from a lot of current UK rock, are no doubt interesting and exciting though.
This is no doubt a very strong full length from a band that has consistently produced strong records... and an exciting release for fans that have had only two, somewhat experimental EP's in the last few years.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 2, 2020This has been one of my favorite albums for years. This Deluxe Edition is great with unreleased songs and demos. The album is remixed and remaster to give a much cleaner sound than the original mix. There is a lot less reverb and some extended sections. If you're a fan its perfect.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 4, 2016I was anxious to get my copy of this deluxe edition and I have to say I was happy in every way. I didn't hear much difference in the remastering, but the real treat hear is the unreleased songs from the original sessions. They fit seamlessly with the rest of the album material. I guess they had to chop it down due to length, because there is no drop off in quality. I love the new songs here and have burned my own version of It Still Moves with them placed back on the record where they belong.
