The boxes the mattresses came in were rather small by comparison to what we were expecting (conventional "big-ass" mattress size). VERY. WELL. PACKAGED.Once opened, it is revealed that the mattresses (and complimentary pillow) are flat compressed, wrapped in plastic, then rolled and wrapped in plastic again (did I mention well packaged?). Carefully cut the outer plastic wrap (that maintains the roll) and it almost begins to unroll for you. Unroll it and lay into position. Carefully cut one end of the plastic wrap that surrounds the mattress itself, remove like a sleeve and the mattress slowly begins to take shape. At first, you can hear a hissing, like a balloon inflating, but it soon subsides as the mattress reaches actual size. No offensive odours detected. The only thing we can say is the wonderful "new mattress" smell!The outer covering has a beautifully elegant "embossed" pattern, you almost don't want to cover it up with sheets.Instructions say wait 72 hours before using but after 2 hours, we HAD to lay on them. Will update the review after 72 hours but, initially... Hoe-lee-Sh*t. THIS is what a bed is supposed to feel like.

    This mattress is hands down the best bed I have ever had. I have severe degenerative disk disease and other degenerative health issues that cause constant pain and I need a firm mattress that offers support while still cradling my body. I had resigned myself to suffering with sub-par foam beds until I could afford a Tempurpedic. This mattress changed all that!
    I ordered a full size extra firm because last time I ordered a foam bed from a different retailer it was a firm but right out of the box it slept like a medium and broke down to a plush very fast. This mattress is indeed EXTRA FIRM. The top foam layer has very little give, but it's just enough to offer me comfort.

    If you've never had a foam mattress before there are some things to know.
    First, give it a full 24 hours to expand before sleeping on it.
    Second, order one level firmer than you need. Foam mattresses soften over time and tend to become one level softer than their out of the box
    firmness.
    Once the bed has expanded, step on the bed all over to help break in and degass the mattress. This will soften the top layer so it cradles the body more efficiently.

    I am thrilled with this bed and am looking forward to lots of restful nights.

    Best mattress I’ve ever had — not too hard, not too soft, JUST RIGHT! I have mine on an adjustable bed (no box spring), and this mattress has held up much better than I even dreamed (see what I did there?). I was a bit alarmed when it arrived, tightly bound in plastic, all the air sucked out. But as soon as I set it free, it was fun watching it expand and morph into a mattress. (Kinda like when you put those Dinosaur eggs in water). I also received 2 memory foam pillows with it. Seven years later, it’s like new; no ‘me-shaped’ dip. My sister would say, “You are a ‘you-shaped dip” (Bless her lil pea-pickin heart! The cross I must bear for being the pretty one. And Mom’s favorite).

    But I digress! Anyhoo, for reference, I’m 5’6 (I’m shrinking! I used to be 5’7 1/2! At this rate, in 20 years, I should be able to sleep in a shoebox), and 127 lbs., which SOUNDS good, but as you get older, your body starts to take revenge for all the stupid things you’ve done to it over the years. Mine is punishing me by redistributing fat from my boobs and butt to my stomach. (In your 50’s, you get your wings from Gravity, not Red Bull). Well, not so much ‘wings’; more like flaps of flab under your arms. Your previously perky parts give in to the relentless, Earth sucking parasite and start pointing south. That formerly razor sharp jawline starts to look like a melted candle). Le sigh. Oh well, at the end of even the suckiest day, my mattress awaits! A pillowy oasis, always ready to envelope, and support me, soothing arthritic, aching joints. blissfully dream of the days when you could read a menu without your spiffy Dollar Store readers.

    So there you have it. You long-suffering Goldilockses, and Princesses plagued with peas’es — don’t hesitate! I freaking LOVE my bed! And I’ve spent a lot more money for ‘name brand’ mattresses that could have doubled as Medieval torture devices. And, do yourselves a favor; splurge on some GOOD sheets—not microfiber or polyester crap—but at least 600 thread count cotton (1,000 is better!). While you’re at it, order the adjustable bed frame as well (I wish I’d had it when recovering from a broken pelvis!). Cheers!

    I haven't even slept on it yet. It has been almost 48hrs and it is still only 5-1/2" thick, and has been since about 2 hrs, when it is supposed to be 10" (yes, they say give it 72hrs but I would think things would change some over the last day). I have massaged it. I have flipped it. The cover is loose and it seems to be stuck at this thickness.
    When I lay on it the chemical smell becomes quite obvious and I have to get off immediately as it makes it hard to breath and I feel ill. The smell may not be difficult for everyone but I am really sensitive to it.

    Been sleeping on this mattress for 6 nights so this is INITAL impression. My last mattress developed an unsupportive area after 2 years and my back began to hurt from it. I sleep on my stomach and hip. Because this mattress is new and supportive my back pain began to clear up almost immediately. Improvement after first night. Now, this would have happened with ANY new mattress. However this mattress is very comfortable and 500 is much less money than I’ve ever spent on a king mattress and I’ve had many. I’ve had many different types of mattresses also mostly spring and hybrid memory foam. They’ve ALL lasted about two years. Btw I’m 195 lbs. If this mattress gets me two years of comfortable sleep before it becomes unsupportive I’ll be ok with that and I’ll buy another of mattress of the same. It’s very nice so far and the price is amazing. I’d rather get two years of comfort on a $500 mattress than two years on a $2000 mattress. So far I like it very much. I’ll give an update after 6 months. As far as the firmness.. my opinion is medium to medium firm.
