    I'm happy to report this cartridge is smooth operating like the OEM was. The Moen patent is now 60+ years old and has expired. That means anyone can copy the design without paying royalty or licensing fees. That's why you see so many "generic" cartridges that claim to be "equal" to the original. But they are not equal. I have tried several "generic" cartridges that turned out to be junk. Those are the ones that only cost $12. This one costs closer to $20, but it is well worth the cost. This offer is for TWO cartridges. If you only need one you will have a spare.

    The two cartridges I received were actual Moen-branded cartridges. They were in all ways identical to what was original in the existing faucet.

    The cartridges were individually packaged in commercial-grade blister packs that were relatively easy to tear open. (Some blister packs seem deliberately difficult to open. These were not.) Each cartridge came with a white plastic alignment tool for help in making sure the cartridge was properly aligned before reassembly of the faucet parts.

    Note 1: This cartridge does not come with a replacement copper retainer clip nor a replacement "D" washer. Be sure to set the old ones aside for reuse later during reassembly.

    Note 2: Before removing the old cartridge, take note of the vent hole orientation on the old cartridge bronze stem. It matters which direction that hole is facing.

    Note 3: Removing this type of cartridge goes easiest with a Moen cartridge puller. I bought the DANCO Cartridge Puller for Moen, Metal, 1-Pack (86712), also available on Amazon for about $10 as of this writing.

    Note 4: Moen has a full-replacement life-time warranty, but that only extends to the original owner of the faucet install. If you bought a house with Moen faucets as a second owner of the home, you are not covered under the original owner's warranty. If you personally paid for the faucet and/or its new installation in a renovation, then you are covered for free cartridge replacement. (I don't work for Moen. This is what they told me on the phone.)

    Mine came in a plastic baggie...not a blister pack. The word "Moen" is not printed on the side. The baggie is marked "generic Moen cartridge." I don't know if it's as good as a genuine part...Time will tell. If I was not desperate for it at the time, I would have sent it back. Buyer beware.

    I would recommend that you spend a couple extra dollars and use the moen oem replacement cartridge.
    I used a generic brand also purchased from amazon recently. Even though I cleaned the faucet opening with vinegar and a tooth brush the generic cartridge went in very hard and never operated with the smoth easy operation you would expect. Today I replaced the generic with an original moen cartridge. What a difference. Learned my lesson. Stick with Brand name product. Actually the moen 1225 Cartridge was $4.00 cheaper on amazon than at Home Depot.
