Puscifer is back with a new album and a huge buzz! Money Shot is coming your way Oct. 30 and we couldn't be more excited. Have you seen the video for the first song the band released for Grand Canyon? Money shot is the follow up to Conditions Of My Parole and marks Maynard Keenan and company's third full length album and its first new album in four years. ''It¹s extremely satisfying to witness simple conversations and ideas transform into completed sonic landscapes,'' Keenan told Rolling Stone. ''And to have these stories go above and beyond the initial ideas makes my grumpy heart swell three sizes.'' In addition, fans can look for Puscifer hitting the road in November for their first extended North American touring in support of the Money Shot album. Dates begin Nov. 1 at the Monster Mash Festival in Phoenix with shows booked into mid-December. For the upcoming shows, the live lineup will consist of Maynard James Keenan, Mat Mitchell, Carina Round, Jeff Friedl, Masha Zargaran and Paul Barker. Luchafer will open all of the band's late fall tour dates. As is the Modus Operandi of Puscifer, there will be a whole new show to accompany the Money Shot release. ''We've been leaving a few clues here and there as to what it may entail,'' says Keenan. ''As usual, we prefer to Show rather than Tell. Odds are if you've been a fan of the diverse nature of our performances in the past, you¹ll want to go ahead and place those bets.''

- Reviewed in the United States on January 26, 2025Fantastic album, I enjoy this as much if not more than any Tool album. Galileo is becoming my favorite song ever!!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 24, 2024I like that album and that's it.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 3, 2017Puscifer is certainly aging gracefully. As each subsequent album is released you can hear the music maturing. It isn't the sellout we see in so many musical offerings. Maynard and crew stick to their unique prog roots with more color and depth with each offering. The album is a unique offering with so many different textures, sounds, and feeling in a fairly cohesive choice of music. The occasional oddity surfaces, but what else do we expect from Maynard et al?
I don't feel the humor present in the other Puscifer offerings, but as a huge TOOL fan, I appreciate the sincerity of the tracks. There has never been a song I walk away from that Maynard has done that leaves me feeling as if it is a vacant, top ten hit. He certainly invites you into his world with every lyric, no matter how dark or joyful. I appreciate his honesty.
Production value is, as expected, fantastic. Each track has depth and shimmer. There is never a flat, or overly harsh offering, and you will not find bottom dwellers either. The dynamics are special, from pounding bass lines to shimmering high hats, the engineering on this vinyl is as beautiful as the new Pink Floyd releases. In other words, the sound quality delivers in spades. It sings in a true all analog/tube system.
Puscifer is certainly a special offering to those of us craving the genius that is Maynard James Keenan.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 27, 2020Have you ever sat under a cold, fluorescent, night sky and wondered if God had forgotten about you? Have you ever seen a person of the same sex in the frozen food aisle at the local market, and wondered what blood type they had? If a leprechaun sits near the pot of gold near the end of the rainbow, where would he use the bathroom? If one nipple is different than the other, are you guaranteed to have cancer in your lifetime? All these questions and more will be pondered upon but never answered in this journey of aqua sensitive and polymorphic soundscapes featured on Money Shot. The third full length offering from homosexual extraterrestrials, Puscifer! If you aren’t bleeding from your ears and genitals at the end of this one; then you’re deaf, and most likely a wondering, racist poltergeist! Have fun with this one kids!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 21, 2019Front man of the highly respected Tool and A Perfect Circle, Maynard Keenan dropped Puscifer’s third LP, Money Shot in 2015. I remember there being some fan groans when this album came out before A Perfect Circle’s, Eat the Elephant and the much anticipated Fear Inoculum by Tool. It had been announced and circulated that both bands were working on new material at the time and fans were rabid for new material.
Puscifer, if you are not familiar, is a project by created back in 1995. Maynard and Tool guitarist Adam Jones showed up on an episode of HBO’s Mr. Show as Puscifer. Then in 2003 we were given a taste of the music to come on The Underworld soundtrack. Throughout the early 2000’s there were the occasional soundtrack releases and finally in October of 2007 we got a single, an EP and the LP V is for Vagina. The album seemed like a fun goof and never took itself serious. In 2011 Puscifer dropped their sophomore album, Conditions of My Parole. This album seemed more focused than the previous release. Instead of Puscifer sounding like a joke album made with a bunch of friends in their free time, it had lots of character and depth that was missing from the first entry. It also carried along with it the humor and musical parts that really worked with the first album. Without going too far into the first two albums I will add one of the biggest impacts was the addition of singer Carina Round, who vocally works so well with Maynard. Now that we are up to speed, let’s take a look at 2015’s Money Shot.
On Money Shot we see a return of the musicians that made the last album so special. I bought the digital copy upon its release and recently purchased the LP on vinyl. Honestly I didn’t feel it at first. There were a few standout tracks but nothing really spoke to me. I saw them on the tour promoting the record and that’s when this album clicked with me. Now I find it one of my go to albums when I just want to chill out or if I have company over and we need a little background sound. I always find it special when you can find an album that you can lose yourself consuming it alone and it easily transitions to something you can play when people are gathered in your living room or around the fire pit as a soundtrack for great conversation.
The album starts with Galileo, a slow moving track with a spacey beat. Maynard’s vocals are dominant with Carina’s voice accompanying ever so subtle in the background. It’s an excellent combination with the drone of the music taking you on an almost dark ambient/shoegaze adventure that conjures (in my mind) vast landscapes at dusk. Puscifer has that effect on me. Maybe it’s me being a Maynard fan boy but in this music I feel the beauty of the desert has been captured by the musicians. I label a band like Kyuss as Desert Rock, I would give this the label of Desert Electronic.
So the first three tracks are the spacey introspective sounds that I have come to love from Puscifer. Then we get to Simultaneous. This song has an ambient beat and a narration about a guy who talks to a person who is standing out at a festival and this is the moment that will pull you out of the moment for a bit. Not in a bad way, its narration always has me perk up and listen with intent. After about four minutes the song takes off to a familiar vibe.
The next three tracks, the album titled Money Shot, The Arsonist and The Remedy pick up the pace of the album. Money Shot is a bit of that V is for Vagina humor as is The Remedy. Money Shot doesn’t transition so well after coming off of Simultaneous. I feel that’s due to the mind trip that you get from Simultaneous. Honestly I think I played that song at least three times on the first listen. I really like The Arsonist and The Remedy is kind of cheesy but Maynard and Corina are masters of the syllable and the pacing of their vocals turn this one into a banger for me.
Smoke and Mirrors and Life of Brian slow the pace down. While not as good as the first four tracks they mellow out the album in a very nice way. Autumn the final track on the album I feel like it doesn’t fit at all. It sounds like a lost Perfect Circle track more than anything and takes away from a great finale.
I like this record despite a few bumps in the road. Maynard’s vocals have over the years become a warm blanket for me. It’s comforting hearing his voice. He is a brilliant word smith and I think he found his equal with Carina Round. The shared melodies mixed with the desert electronic sound makes for an almost fully immersive album. Something else to note is that there is a different mix of Simultaneous on the vinyl issue of the album, complete with a different narration by Daniel Ash of Bauhaus.
If you are not familiar with this band and are thinking about checking them out this or Conditions for My Parole would be a great starting point. Love him or hate him, Maynard is undeniably a unique and creative powerhouse in the music industry. Not everything he touches turns to gold but if you are a fan it is worth your attention.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 30, 2015The album certainly listens like a sonic and thematic sequel to Conditions of My Parole. I am biased as I love Carina Round nearly as much as Maynard, but Money Shot nears perfection. I couldn't sympathize with anyone who would whine about no new Tool, but couldn't appreciate the genius of "Simultaneous" and "The Redemy". Musical and artistic expression at its finest, Money Shot is an album I'd recommend to anyone who appreciates being a human being. It's a pretty solid album, nothing I would call filler. It coalesces so swell, it's almost impossible to pick stand-out songs. I will say Grand Canyon grows a song, following Galileo and Agostino, but after a couple listens, The Remedy and Life of Brian (Apparently You Haven't Seen) are probably my favorites for now. Puscifer has really found its voice, and if ever I had to choose just one album to listen to forever, this album garners its share of consideration.

5.0 out of 5 stars Here's the Money Shot
Puscifer have always pushed certain boundaries drawing on everything from sex to spirituality, however this album seems like a leveller in some ways. Previous outings saw Maynard James Keenan writing songs entirely on his own, this time around, he brought vocalist Carina Round in on the writing process, along with Mat Mitchell who has produced for Puscifer previously. Carina it seems balances out the raw masculinity and their collaboration has brought a more reflective style of song. The main topic seems to be questioning the fundamental flaw in human nature, examining our relationship with social media, ignorance, blind faith and intolerance. Lyrically, it feels to me like there is more depth than previous works, the closest in similarity to earlier offerings perhaps can be heard in 'Green Valley' which featured on 'Conditions of My Parole' (2011). It's still unmistakably Puscifer, just with a richer feel. Maynard's vocals are exquisite, 'Galileo', 'Agostina' and 'Grand Canyon' showing the best of his range. Definitely worth a few listens, paying attention to the lyrics. Stand out tracks are 'The Remedy' and 'Autumn'. 'Simultaneous' is a part spoken account of an interaction between two men at a festival, which warrants ones full attention when first listening. All in all, a great addition to the Puscifer back catalogue. Highly recommend.
