This is the album to get if you want intelligent metal. If you want the songs to sound unique from each other, and yet part of a continuum that seems to have a central theme, this is definitely for you. You have insane blast beats straight from the pits of death metal to the echoing sounds of spacey / ambient rock. The vocals are not over powering, and yet true to the genre. Gojira is out there with a specific message present in their lyrics...a message that is quite rare among popular metal bands. Listening to these guys, you'll think where have they been all this time? Of course, it took them a long time to break out into a bigger following like they enjoy now, especially in the US. The recording and mixing makes this album sound larger than life, perfect for blasting from 12" subwoofers in your car, or listening in privacy with headphones. Personally, I can't believe this is a re-issue and that this music has already been around for a while. This band in amazing and very unique in their sound, because even bands from the same genre and style still don't come close to sounding like these guys. Again, for technical, unique metal that has many changes as the album progresses, this is for you. You won't be disappointed. In fact, you'll come back looking for more of their albums like I did.

Gojira is one of those bands that when people ask “what are they like” there is no easy answer because they are hard to classify due to their uniqueness. I will simply say (in my never to be humble opinion) that if you like Coroner, Helmet, Melvins, Believer, Massive Audio Nerve, Snapcase, or Philm you should check them out. Not that I am comparing them to any of these other bands, that would be ‘apples and oranges’, but rather that if your tastes include the eclectic they are worth a moment of your time.

I knew of Gojira by name only until they were coming on tour with Mastodon, since I was going to that show I figured I should check Gojira out. One taste and I bought every CD except the ever elusive Terra Incognita (currently selling for $85+ used, REALLY!?). As impressed as I was with their CDs and the live video of them online, it all paled in comparison to seeing them live. I will just say that I will NEVER miss them live again! Totally Savage!

If you have never heard Gojira before, do yourself a favor and get this album (or any Gojira album, for that matter). In my opinion, Gojira has created some of the heaviest music ever recorded. The musicianship is truly top-notch and just a joy to experience. I'm not going to go in depth with a song-by-song synopsis; you can read that in other reviews. 'The Link' is an album that has many memorable moments, catchy riffs/rhythms and incredibly precise drumming. The vocals sound "death metal-esque"(in a good way), but are often varied in tone and style and always seem to fit the music.

I stumbled upon this band 4 months ago, and they re-ignited my passion for heavy/extreme music (they are just so 'tight' musically). Needless to say, I have since purchased all 4 of their studio albums (this one is their 2nd, and possibly my fav) and they all are excellent. In short, "The Link" does what any great 'metal' album is intended to do- melt your face off and leave you, the listener, wanting more.

    Gojira's albums:

    Terra Incognita (2001)
    The Link (2003)
    From Mars to Sirius (2005)
The Way of All Flesh (2008)

... and that honor truly goes to Gojira. No other metal band has a back catalogue of such treasures to rival Metallica's first four 10-star piece de resistance works. This is metal that stands atop its own mountain, as Metallica in the 80s, and the style these wine connoisseurs bring forth is nothing short of heavy lullabyes of artistic genius. It helps of course that countless bands have laid the foundation before them but it takes iconoclasts to risk rewards of this magnitude. Opeth is sheer poetry, and I for one am not a fan of any poetry; Nile, Krisiun, Suffocation are repetitive bores with similar sonic shrivels; Emperor, Children of Bodom, Cryptopsy are just angry Olivers who need a hug. SYL, Bloodbath, All Shall Perish, Despised Icon got a good thing going but Metallica, Slayer, Death, Entombed, Meshuggah and now Gojira, this is the GAUNTLET of true metal essence. Weep from a far, small-town black sheep and argue otherwise, but ive never the need to bite the hand that feeds and destroy my parent's property, or dress in black to hide my shame. I am a fan of MUSICA and this is THE NEXT BIG DEAL. American Idol, eat this!

It is truly impossible to review this music. Either you can acknowledge, appreciate and respect the dexterity behind these lads or insert your nearest Lamb of God, Unearth, Dillinger Escape Plan. And god help you if you do. Ooops, I mean, Allah help you.

I have enjoyed Gojira for some time now and am catching up on some of their earlier work such as link. If you enjoy their heavy rhythms and vocals, you will enjoy Link which is heavier than Mars to Sirius for example.

Out of all their albums, this one is far my favorite. The drums alone will have you cranking this up to 11 throughout the entire album.

I prefer listening to the music by albums. For Gojira I own almost all of their albums and I love all of them. To me it's like art appreciation. I don't just each song or passage separately and try to perceive Gojira's albums as creative testaments rather than products for consumption or dismembering.

I'm finding myself playing this album even more than From Mars to Sirius, which was easily my favorite from Gojira. The Link absolutely destroys from start to finish. So freaking heavy!
    Buy this album!

5.0 out of 5 stars A must listen for any fan of groove/death metal

A heavy groove/death metal album with some technical riffs and insane drums. A must listen for any Gojira fan, as it contains a very raw and aggressive sound that is rough around the edges, which is not as present on later releases.
Favourite tracks include Remembrance and Over The Flows.

Case was a bit broken. This band is slowly becoming one of my faves. This one you can tell the signature sound for them was growing. Gojira is awesome and I suggest anyone that likes metal to buy this . I’d go with there last two new ones because they are unreal for hooks and melodies and just plain heavy .
