    A very good Cd
  • Reviewed in the United States on October 3, 2015
I'm loving this album right now. I've actually been listening to both this album and Chvrches' first album for at least an hour now while writing reviews for my recent purchases. I do certainly like their first album, but I find the songs on Every Open Eye in general to be catchier than on the Bones of What You Believe--actually, catchy isn't the right word. Catchy is far too pop-oriented a word to describe why I prefer this album. I suppose what I mean is that I find more songs on this album that immediately strike a chord with me--the type of really lovable songs that have a certain word or phrase or line sung in just such a way that it hits directly somewhere in your heart or mind.

And, of course, there are plenty that make me want to dance. Chvrches produces a particular variety of music that can manage both poignancy and dance-ability, and that combination is pleasing in many different moods.

I think with any artist that you latch on to with their first album, there's almost a sense of dread about the second album. The expectations are usually ridiculous. Imagine my delight when I could tell in the first minute of the first song that my fears were unfounded. Everything you loved about Chvrches in the first album is back in this wonderfully electronic, bright, evolved second effort. You could easily characterize this as pop music, if most pop music didn't mostly suck. The only track I could do with out is "High Enough To Carry You Over," which, like the first album, might be weak because of the male vocal.

The CD works great and came in excellent condition. It accidentally ended up at a neighbor's address and I previously gave a bad review. I was wrong, and I am very happy with my purchase!!

With the release of Every Open Eye, Chvrches seems to have avoided much of the dreaded "sophomore slump" that often happens to artists after a highly successful first album. While Chvrches may not have been a household name in the US from their first album, The Bones of What Your Believe, says far more about Americans than it does about the quality of the music. Luckily, the first single from the album, Leave a Trace, is receiving powerful airplay support on rock, pop, and alternative stations in local markets and on satellite radio alike.

Powerful vocals by Lauren Mayberry lead the group through striking songs right off the bat with Never Ending Circles. Favorite songs include Never Ending Circles, Leave a Trace, Clearest Blue, and even the male vocals on High Enough to Carry You Over. However, don't let this list be regarded as my list of the only good songs on the album. The album is full of catchy electronics-driven pop and will keep the listener satisfied to keep on repeat for a while. The songs that don't immediately grab your attention are still good enough to keep for background music.

This CD sounds amazing, and the digipak opens up to reveal a beautiful three panel photo of the band. Lots of great bonus tracks. A must have for any Chvrches fan who collects CDs.

Chvrches is just an amazing group and I am finding myself enjoying this recording even more than the first one. Both are excellent and I went to see them in concert and they are fabulous. I've already got my tickets for this tour.

This band is underrated! This is one of the best techno dance albums in a long time. There is some great retro stuff on this album. This is one of those every song is great albums that you just want to crank!

This is how you follow up an amazing debut, with an album that doesn't stray from the original sound that made you a fan, but improves upon it.
