This was a good story, and an easy read. However, it was very predictable how it was going to turn out, and I found it quite tedious to get to the end. The hero of the story was starting to get on my nerves, and the whole tree thing was kind of weird.

This book started out with the pace that I wasn't immediately enraptured, but the depth of the whole story ends up with such intensity that I didn't want it to end. I never want to give away the details such that the book is not worth reading so I will give a brief synopsis. The main character is Sam, who has moved to a completely new area to escape pain from his past. He works at a local park, and in addition to normal job duties volunteers to give tours as his degree is in horticulture and he enjoys the people . The relationships that stem from some people, including his special elderly landlady and people he meets in his new location, become intense because of his inability to escape the past. The story unfolds around notes in a tree and all the worldly pain and joy experts in life. Well worth the read.

Took me a little to get into the book, but once I did, I was glad I stuck with It! The main character I thought was good but cmon, a little goes a long way!

Grief and bereavement are so trivialized and misunderstood. In our fast-paced, instant gratification society, people want us to be recovered by the time the last post-funeral casserole is consumed. This is a misconception against which this author argues in an incredibly powerful way. Her characters are real and imperfect and struggling to make sense of pain and loss and the fragility of the human spirit in an authentic way. Don't miss this extraordinary novel!

Another must read by Amanda Brooke. In her own compelling style, the author created characters so deeply moving, back stories so carefully revealed and a storyline so intricately woven that you will find yourself unable to stop reading until the end. And, even then, you want to just sit a bit longer with some of these characters.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderfully special and incredibly moving read.

I couldn't put this down until I'd finished. This novel has it all with the wretched ugliness of abuse, jealousy and betrayal and thankfully goodness, love and hope. The trauma of Jasmine going missing and Laura's abuse at the hands of her husband is horrifying. The relationship between Sam and his landlady Selina is touching. There is so much goodness and compassion in Sam but he's going through his own turmoil, his good intentions, as with Selina's trigger events that are beyond their control resulting in a loss of life but there is a happy ending. The Wishing Tree is truly magical and there are so many special characters. As always with Amanda Brooke, this was an emotional read.

A really enjoyable book, full of emotion. The people were down to earth, some nice and others not so nice. The poor main character - I'll leave, no I'll stay. All his waffleing was making me dizzy, so I was happy the women straightened him out. Lovely book, and well worth the read.
