Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

The came has a malfunction in it. On level 13 of "Sheep" it is impossible to do the word "Chimney" You can not get the "I" in the right place. Then you cannot move to the next level. I paid the 99 cents for enough hints just to spell out the word in hopes it would let me move to the next level but it did not work.
Wordbrain is in a class of it's own. I found it in the Kindle app store about a year ago and didn't even think twice about downloading it. Well alright, price of $0.00 helped in the immediate decision making process, but if there had been a reasonable price I would have paid it. Hey, it's words man! Words make the world a happening place. With Wordbrain one gets what is very like a reverse crossword as one has to remove the letters to get the answers. A wrong choice in direction can block a word and the puzzle cannot be completed. The individual puzzles have a reset button to revert the puzzle to the beginning, a nice feature for when one is well and truly stuck. The levels get progressively harder. Thought there are still only two words per puzzle the words are longer and harder to find in the mish-mash of letters. There are also hints, but they are limited. When one runs out of hints they have to be bought with Kindle coins. I have yet to buy hints, mainly because I have no Kindle coins, so I don't know how this aspect works. I have tried other word games on my Kindle but, either the patterns were not comprehensible to me, or the words were dancing around and I could not follow all the action on the screen. All in all, WordBrain is a fantastic way to pass downtime and keep the brain active by seeking the words in the letter pattern.
Update: The main reason for the original low rating was the lack of response from the game company. Recently received response in which they apologized for delay in responding and gave 20 hints, doubling the original 10 hints purchased. I give them credit for responding but this came almost 2 weeks after the request for help and almost a week after Amazon's customer service already took care of the problem. I simply wanted to acknowledge that the company did make a response.
First, let me say that, in general, I like the game although it can be frustrating sometimes because I can usually see half a dozen words that fit the answer requirements. You have to find the words in the correct order in order to solve the puzzle. The game comes with 10 hints and you get 3 hints every time you complete a category. However, to complete a category, you have to go through 20 puzzles with at least 3 words per puzzle. Even finishing most of the puzzles without using the hints, the original 10 hints and additional 3 hints per category do not last very long. To get more hints, you have to buy them.
The main reason for the low rating is the lack of customer service. I finally broke down and bought a 10 hint pack through the in-app link. For some reason, the pack did not open in the game. I sent an e-mail through the in-app contact. The response was an automated message that essentially told me to check the FAQs and get back to them if that did not help. A follow-up e-mail was sent to state that the FAQ did not solve the problem. No further contact was received from the game company. I finally contacted Amazon regarding the problem. I received a refund the next day and a suggestion by customer service to try re-purchasing the hint pack in-app. Per the suggestion, I bought it again and this time it opened.
Final evaluation: The game is interesting but can be frustrating without hints, which must be purchased. I would probably rate the game itself at least 3 stars. The game company's customer response to problems/issues lowers my satisfaction level to the 2 stars I gave the game. Amazon customer service rates 5 stars given its quick response and helpfulness.
This game is loads of fun. Starts off easy (lures you into a false sense of security) and lets you learn the game and then gradually gets harder. I agree with some reviews that there's no explanation for some things; what the heck IS with the 'countdown' numbers in the upper right corner? However, that doesn't bug me as much as the hint problem I'm having on my Fire. The app on my phone gives me the hints I earn and it seems, the extra/bonus hints. The app on the Kindle (even after deleting and reinstalling) won't even give me the hints I'm earning, much less the bonus for posting with some form of social media. That's a bit of a problem because as the game gets more difficult the hints get more and more important. I keep hoping the producers of the app will read these reviews - don't know how to contact them - and produce a patch or update. Otherwise I am having a ball with it. I may not be able to in the higher levels without those hints and that would be tragic.
I wish only that I could give WordBrain 4.75 stars. My only complaint is that I have been "hung up" on a couple of the puzzles because I could not figure out the order that the three words needed to be played. On both occasions I looked at "cheats" but they only list the words, not the order and I feared that the game was "broken". But, I discovered that leaving it and coming back with fresh eyes, the solutions usually became apparent.
WordBrain is just that challenging. I find that its charm. It's not wildly impossible - although sometimes frustrating - and it is not so simplistic as to become mind-numbingly easy and repetitive. WordBrain presents a challenge. It certainly fills it's ap niche well, it is what I would expect and hope for in a puzzle game.
Download it. You will fly through the early levels and then suddenly get stuck, and it will give you a tiny jolt, like remembering that even the most lovely flowers have thorns.
Absolutely brilliant!! This looks simple ...and to begin with - it is fairly easy... but beware - as the game progresses the harder it gets!! It’s fantastically frustrating - totally addictive and a lots of fun... certainly keeps the brain cells working!! Work through the levels one game at a time... you can’t skip games!! I think everyone should have this game on their phone - keep going or take a break - there it is always teasing the grey matter!! Good Luck!! ...by the way - worth paying to lose the ads...
