About the author

DR Payne has been writing for a few years now. She started with the old adage - write what you know - so, she did. Her first book is a non-fiction book entitled "When Stupid Comes to the Operating Room". True life stories that she has seen in the hospital.
Stupid can kill you and she thinks it should be listed as cause of death on the death certificate.
She is presently doing Locum Tenens and spends her free time binge watching "Murder She Wrote".
Her book is merely a distraction intended to make you laugh - and be thankful, you haven't done some of the things her patients have done.
She posts often on her Facebook fan page -

- Reviewed in the United States on July 17, 2020I didn"t know to expect, but I just finished a book, The Final Solution by David Cesarani about a very dark period of time I wanted to read a light frivolous book and take a short break from reading history, which I read for pleasure reading. This book really delivered and I enjoyed it very much. It's an "easy" read and very enjoyable. I recommend it highly.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 15, 2020Quick shaking of my head, smirking kind of read. I have been working in Healthcare now for four years and I still can't believe what patients and their family members or friends say or do. Never a dull moment in this type of setting. I only wish I could have been there to witness it all. I'll be waiting on volume 2 of this collection of stories.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 1, 2021I'm guessing the 1star reviews are coming from folks that have never worked in a hospital. And people said the author was fat shaming. Most people don't realize the difficulties of dealing with obese patients. It's hard to get intravenous access, and surgeries may be tedious and lengthy. I laughed quite a few times, not because I'm a mean person, because I've been there. Sometimes laughter in a hospital setting is the only way to keep from going crazy. I really enjoyed this book. Wish it was longer!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 19, 2017At first the book seemed pretty good. Some interesting little stories in the life of a doctor. But then it became stories of some nurses known by the author. That didn't bother me too much but the increasing amount of fat shaming was awful and unprofessional. It's one thing to give advice on appropriate weight and its health benefits vs outright mocking of overweight people and their behaviors. I found it rude and unprofessional and it truly took away from the book. I'm also a health care professional so I know the frustrations but picking on people or judging them is pointless. Find a more worthwhile read than this one.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 16, 2020Oh my!! Lol how do you spell stupid? Sometimes ones wonders how/if some ever find their way to the bathroom. That'd fit many here. One review the person was offended about the size of larger patients. I WAS one and now? I'm not. Simply I want to be healthy. Its an option. Yes, an option.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 16, 2021There are some really classy books written by physicians and nurses. This is not one of them. Filled with stories of drunks, druggies, the obese, and things he has found in people butts, this is the book patient’s read to validate their belief that we are all a bunch of jerks, standing around divulging their most embarrassing HIPAA protected information to one another. I hope the reader will understand that most doctors and nurses have your best interest at heart and work very hard at giving you the very best care possible.
Yes, these things happen at a fairly consistent interval. It’s something we have to deal with at the same time we are dealing with another patient’s heart attack. But I’d like to think we give each of them the same amount of grace and care. Ignorance is not something to make fun of, or profit from. It is something to eliminate.

5.0 out of 5 stars I liked this book
Good book, short but well written anecdotes. I think the author was generous with her patience at times in her career!

1.0 out of 5 stars Absolute Rubbish
Don’t waste your money. Nothing to entertain or educate. Very disappointing was expecting some insight, instead it was all about fat shaming patients. Very poor.
