The Primary Mathematics U.S. Edition series of elementary math textbooks and workbooks is meant to be part of a system of learning in which adult supervision and independent practice go hand in hand. The main feature of this series is the use of the Concrete> Pictorial>Abstract approach. The students are provided with the necessary learning experiences beginning with the concrete and pictorial stages, followed by the abstract stage to enable them to learn mathematics meaningfully. This approach encourages active thinking process, communication of mathematical ideas and problem solving. This helps develop the foundation students will need for more advanced mathematics. Practice exercises are designed to provide the students with further practice after they have done the relevant workbook exercises. Review exercises are provided for cumulative reviews of concepts and skills. All the practice exercises and review exercises are optional exercises. Our Primary Mathematics U.S. Edition 1A-6B is ideal for both classroom and home use for 1st - 7th grades. This is the most popular (Singapore Math) primary math series used by schools and homeschoolers in the U.S. and Canada. Recommended for those who want a solid, basic math program with a proven track record and an emphasis on concept development, mental techniques, and problem solving. This is primarily a direct instruction program. Students are given several approaches for solving problems and are encouraged to discuss ideas and explore additional methods. Answer keys booklets are not included, and are available - one for Primary 1A-3B and one for Primary 4A-6B.

I love this series.
It moves along at a good pace and it's easy to move faster when they get it and slow down when they don't.

I bough these math text books for my 4 years old son during pandemic. It is the important time for him to start math learning and here we are in the year 2020.
I was educated in Asia before college and we know how important it is to have good math basis. The addition and subtraction are mainly done by mind calculation not on the calculator no matter how big the number is.
This text book or math teaching system is well designed for English speakers. At the beginning, I like it start from counting numbers and connecting them from symbols to letters. The work book makes exercises fun, my son can concentrate on the book for almost one hour.
Overall, it’s a good math learning system.

I love that I can just buy new workbooks when the next kid is old enough for each level and pull the text book back out of the archives. It saves me a few $$s. It's convenient to have all of the kids' math work for the semester in one place, so I can just stick the workbook in a filing cabinet when they're finished with it. I'm a big believer in consumables because in the end I think they're cheaper, and if you're not into keeping things just in case the state comes calling, like I am, then you can just stick it in the recycling when you're finished with each level and not have the clutter. I'm a huge Singapore fan because the illustrations are so fun, the instruction is easy to understand, and it's easy to incorporate manipulatives to help give the kids a hands on way to understand what they're being presented.

I started out using the Primary Mathematics at the recommendation of a 2nd grade teacher with my daughter when she was in first grade. Since trying out Level 2, I went back and bought Level 1 for my younger child. The Primary Mathematics series from Singapore Math has colorful illustrations inside, and a decent number of problems to do. If you want a more exhaustive number of problems, Singapore Math has another series without color illustrations, but with more problems to answer.

The other advantage of this series other many others is that it gives enough instruction, with examples, to allow children to teach themselves. This is important to me as I have multiple children, and it helps me when one of them can independently do an activity, allowing me to multitask.

I'm using both Saxon and Primary Mathematics for my first grader. We are reviewing both curriculums to see which one will suit our family the best. Both are great programs but my daughter seems to enjoy Primary Math the best. A piece of advice if you plan to use Primary Math is to make sure you purchase the teachers manuals. They are in depth and give the parent a guide to follow.

We just finished book 1A with my 6- and 5-year olds. I am extremely impressed with the way the material in these books is presented. I have a very strong math background (was an engineer) and obviously did just fine learning the "traditional" way 20 years ago in public school. But the thoroughness and depth of understanding that this method fosters is something I don't remember ever being taught. I just "got it" and was good at math, while others in my classes struggled, but I really feel like this method (in the hands of a patient instructor) can help even struggling math students to "get it."
I have one kid who got my abstract brain, and she breezes through the textbook and exercises and thinks that the concrete lessons from the instructor's guide are a bit unnecessary. She finds all the work fun and easy. But my 7-year-old, who is ridiculously concrete, really benefits from the concrete presentation of the concepts. In fact, the only reason I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 is that I wish the instructor's guide emphasized just how much some kids need a TON of concrete work before they start writing anything down. We really found that true in the "subtracting within 20 when there are not enough ones by subtracting from the ten" section (what we all learned as "borrowing," but they don't teach that method here). We used the 10-frames as recommended in the book, but my concrete learner didn't really "get it" until I made him a set of 10 beads on a string, with 10 "loose beads" so he could manipulate as he worked through problems.
The only other complaint I have about this curriculum is also praise, I guess: the method (in the instructor's guide) very clearly outlines when students "ought to" have various math facts memorized, since later units will build upon these math facts. Their recommendations make sense and seem spot on for my gifted memorizer, who is "right on schedule." But there's no way my struggling one is going to have all math facts to 20 memorized before moving on to the next section - we will be drilling them until he is 20, probably, and that's just how his brain works, and there's no reason he can't move on to the next concept just because he still needs to count on his fingers or use manipulatives more than other kids. So I can see how Singapore Math's mastery approach (as opposed to a spiral approach like in Saxon Math) could be frustrating for kids who can't completely memorize what they need in each unit in time for the next unit, which builds upon that knowledge. But the concrete introduction of each concept makes new units approachable even without complete memorization of math facts.

This program does a great job of introducing new concepts. I was a bit worried about my 5-year-old learning multiplication and division (they are just introduced in 1Aand 1B) since she becomes frustrated easily, but she picked up the concepts well with the simple method of teaching. This program was just the right length for our Sept-June homeschool year, too. Love it. She did well with 1A and 1B in Kindergarten and we have purchased 2A and 2B for 1st grade.
