Editorial Reviews
2014 release from the legendary songbird who duets with award winning, record breaking superstars in their own right including Elvis Presley, Michael Buble, Stevie Wonder, Billy Joel, Lionel Richie, Andrea Bocelli and others. Barbra and her duet partners have won a combined grand total of 74 Grammy Awards. An eight-time Grammy Award winner, Streisand is the only performer to have #1 albums in five consecutive decades. According to the Recording Industry Association of America, her 51 gold albums, 30 platinum albums and 18 multi-platinum albums exceed all other female singers. The RIAA also notes that her 72.5 million album sales tops it's list of album sales by a female singer. Barbra is the only female among the top ten album-selling recording artists.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 2, 2014Forget the carping about these songs being "old"--Streisand has made them classics, a whole different thing. Forget the carping about "taking chances"--Barbra has always done that, and here she does it too, by sharing her territory and moving toward her partners' strengths, as she puts it. And certainly forget the carping about the fact that she doesn't "belt" like she used to--the warm, liquid gold sound of that utterly unique voice is richer and the low notes fuller than ever. I for one love the steel-belted delivery and the big finishes of her 70s & 80s pop platinum hits. But she is older and wiser and,if possible, more musically sophisticated than ever. Her way with a lyric is unsurpassed--every syllable is considered and infused with meaning.
I have now listened to the album several times, watched its promo videos, and discussed it with many other BJS fans, and I am more convinced than ever that this album deserves its #1 status. If one is interested in the best singing there is (as Barry Gibb said, "There are the 10 best singers in the world--and then there is Barbra Streisand") then this is for him or her.
Streisand's first album of collaborations, DUETS, was very fine but suffered from the mix of producers. This album seamlessly blends each song into the whole tapestry, and the orchestrations are generally simple and totally supportive of the lyrics and the singers.
All the tracks are beautifully sung, even if one doesn't care for the song itself. These are the best male singers around and Barbra lets each of them shine. My personal favorite is COME RAIN OR COME SHINE, with John Mayer--bluesy, sexy, with great rapport between Barb and Mayer. Mayer's guitar makes this a trio! Another great track is WHAT KIND OF FOOL? with John Legend, where the sadness of the song and the beauty of the singers' interplay is well served by a deeper male voice. (I can say "THANK GOD" it wasn't GUILTY, which I hope never to hear again.) The "dark horse" of the album is the duet with Jason Gould, Barbra's late musically blooming son, and it is a total winner. I have enjoyed Jason's solo recordings and here he and his mother blend their similar (how could they not be?) styles in a totally affecting version of HOW DEEP IS THE OCEAN? Gorgeous! My "feel good" track is NEW YORK STATE OF MIND", which was on Streisand's SUPERMAN, a multiplatinum hit in the 70s. Here Barbra and Billy Joel sing this ode to the Apple with fresh joy and love.
SOMEWHERE with Josh Groban is also very fine, taking the song on a dreamlike outing. I am not a country fan but the Blake Shelton duet wins me over. For me the less outstanding tracks are PEOPLE, with Stevie Wonder, and EVERGREEN, with Babyface (who produced the album). A lot of people don't care for THE WAY WE WERE with Lionel Richie, but I think it is cool. A new song was written so that Andrea Bocelli could finally sing with Barbra, and I STILL CAN SEE YOUR FACE shows that Barbra still has the power to go head to head with someone as operatic as Bocelli and create a great, big ballad. Their voices are nicely matched as well. This will please the people who love to hear Barbra "belt".
The opening and closing tracks are unique. Barbra and Michael Buble' turn IT HAD TO BE YOU into a marvelous romp, their voices intertwining perfectly and their personalities shining. This would be the number that should be recognized by the Grammy folks, who have always loved both Barbra and Michael. Finally, there should be no carping about the Elvis duet--it works, and is a fine tribute to the King, who, I think, would love it. When I heard that Barbra was going to include a duet with Elvis, I knew it would be LOVE ME TENDER. And so it is! Lots of love and tenderness in those two irreplaceable voices.
Barbra Streisand is a national treasure, and with PARTNERS she adds another bag of gold to the vault.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 3, 2024a perfect album of hers. Duets with several well known singers. Check out who they are…
- Reviewed in the United States on October 13, 2024I loved listening to those who sang duets with Barbra Streisand!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 28, 2014This Cd is another Streisand masterpiece. From her first not on "It had to be you" with Michael Buble' to her last not one her virtual duet with Elvis on "Love Me Tender," this cd will move you to joy to tears of emotion. Each song is brilliantly arranged, Barbra's Partners work incredible with her voice and each Partner brings their specialty to their song. I love that on some of her most classic songs they gave them totally different arrangements that make them fresh and new. "People " with Stevie Wonder is magnificent done in a Bosa Nova style with his Harmonica solo throughout. One of my favorites is "What Kind of Fool" with John Legend. This is totally different than the "Guilty" version and frankly much better. It is starts off with a Symphonic orchestral arrangement and the style continues throughout the song. You can even hear kettle drums in the background at a certain point. Barbra and John sing together wonderfully and make this a totally new song that is timeless. "How Deep is the Ocean" with her son is just so poignant and wonderful. You can see where he got his voice from. Wait until you hear her sing "It Had to be You" the cd opener with Michael Buble'. Original version was on her 3rd album as a straight ballad, this time starts off as a ballad then goes into a big band style that is amazing then ends with a ballad verse. Barbra, did not phone in this project you can feel her giving her all on every song.
This is the best Duets CD I have ever heard and love that she did with all men, as it gives the cd a great flow. I look forward of a "Partners" with all female singers sooon. This CD entered the Billboard charts at #1 and deserves a long stay on the top spot. I highly recommend this CD...you will be entranced into a Barbra Wonderland with her partners and great producing by "BabyFace." Speaking of Babyface, her duet of Evergreen with him is just amazing. Put it in your shopping basket now and remember I told you so.

5.0 out of 5 stars That is a beautiful song with two beautiful voices
Always Barbra. She has found an interesting array of male singers and they are for the most part able to keep up with Barbra and that is a hard thing to do. The only tracks I did not care for are those with Stevie Wonder and Lionel Richie. Those voices were old and tired compared to Barbra's soaring voice. But there is one big surprise on this recording and that is her duet with her son, Jason Gould. That is a beautiful song with two beautiful voices. They compliment each other well and I hope Jason Gould becomes a successful artist in his own right. I would highly recommend it to add to your collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect gift.
Very soothing; no harsh tones; sadly there is only one Barbra Streisand (yet)
with this melodious voice. Perfect gift.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rafraîchissant!
Je suis fan, et les differents teasers, le choix des chansons m'avaient laissés dubitatif! Bon, au final :
- Bublé : électrique, big band et un plaisir des deux protagonistes, Parfait
- Stevie : revisiter People, pas facile...
- John Mayer : revelation !!!!! Magnifique Come Rain or Come Shine, bluesy à souhait et la voix/guitare de Mayer, Parfait

5.0 out of 5 stars would love to see her do more in future with Michael ...
Ms. Streisand can do no wrong...where in that small frame does that voice come from? Her partners here are an interesting assortment; would love to see her do more in future with Michael Buble and, surprisingly, with her own son Jason who does a terrific job singing a sweet ballad with his beautiful Mom. John Legend cut a great one, too. There were no disappointments here at all...but then, this amazing woman with the voice of an angel has yet to disappoint in decade after decade of great recordings.
