Found a contractor who specializes in woodwork. Almost everyone said you really can’t just repaint a kitchen cabinet, you have to refinish it. This guy noticed the existing paint quality was great but he stripped it anyway and recommended this milk paint.
It looks FANTASTIC. I love this color, too. And it’s lasted well, I just bought a quart to do touch up because the cabinets do kind of take a beating. It’s held up well overall but it won’t remain perfect forever, you do scratch it here and there.
But it mixes up so easily and goes on smoothly and just looks great. Can’t tell you how many thousands of dollars we saved vs refinishing.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 19, 2018Size: 32 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)Color: Seagull GrayVerified PurchaseThis was my first time using this product, and I love it! After reading countless blogs off Pinterest to plan a long-term-temporary kitchen update, I came across a recommendation for General Finishes products. While the price may seem a bit steep for a quart of paint, you get what you pay for. I purchased a qt each of Driftwood (lower cabs) and Seagull Gray (upper cabs, but ended up blending Driftwood into it because it was lighter than I wanted), as well as a qt of satin polyurethane. With that, I was able to paint 2 coats of both paint and poly on all doors (front & back), cabinet faces, as well as the cabinets in the pantry. Word on the street is that you don't have to do any prep work prior to painting. I can't verify because I didn't want to take any chances in a high-use room. Instead, I took the route of Krud Kutter cleaner-deglosser, Zinzer 123 primer (1 coat) , and then 2 coats each of paint and poly. BTW, this stuff dries really quick which is fantastic when you need to bang out for project in as little time as possible. Coverage is awesome and paint is forgiving and does on very smooth using foam brushes and rollers. I did not sand in between coats. Part of me wishes that I had to achieve a glossier finish, but I was tired, impatient and wanted a useable kitchen asap after moving into the house.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 4, 2019Size: 32 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)Color: Seagull GrayVerified PurchaseI've just started putting this on my kitchen cabinets, after all the prep and priming. I mixed in just a little Persian Blue and it looks great. I'm putting this on my bottom cabinets and then mixing a bit of this mixture with Seagull Grey to do my upper cabinets. The coverage and application is unbelievable! It's easy, even with just a foam brush. I can't wait to finish and will come back to post photos when I do. This is just such good and beautiful paint and so much easier to apply than I had in my mind it would be. I highly recommend it!!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 6, 2020Size: 32 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)Color: Seagull GrayVerified PurchaseI wanted to paint my honey oak kitchen cabinets without a lot of prep work (sanding and priming) and after a lot of research I found General Finishes Milk Paint does the trick! I used Krud Kutter TSP substitute to clean the cabinets first, but did not prime or sand. I used a brush and did two coats of the Seagull Grey, followed by two coats of a satin polyurethane. I'm still in the process of painting since our kitchen is on the larger side, but I am loving the results so far. The paint dries quickly, and has no odor, which is important to me since I have two littles in the house, and I've been using our kitchen island as my working station. Although I've read that most people used foam rollers, I used a regular brush and the paint has gone on very easily and evenly. I love the light grey color and have gotten many compliments so far.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 26, 2017Size: 32 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)Color: Seagull GrayVerified PurchaseI absolutely love the General Finishes Milk Paint. It is wonderful. Easy to put on, can be brushed or sprayed. I redid my kitchen cabinets in Seagull Gray and Driftwood and it is AMAZING. No paint lines like you would normally see if brushed on and that was the majority of what I did. It levels out wonderfully and is easy to get where you want it to go. It can be thinned down to be sprayed as well. Used with the topcoats by General Finishes and my cabinets look amazing! I did two coats and a clear coat and it was done. Dries quickly so you can recoat and get projects done. This is the paint I use when refinishing furniture. I think it is much better than some of the competitors that are out there.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 31, 2020Size: 32 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)Color: Seagull GrayVerified PurchaseI am painting my kitchen cabinets with this paint in Seagull Grey. The finish seems to be very strong/hard not like latex paint where it's soft. Paints very smoothly. I also used the General Finishes Top Coat Satin. Unfortunately it turned some of the doors yellow in places. I know the manufacture says it will do that with white and I was hoping to not have this issue with the grey but I did. I called General Finishes and it was recommended that I put a stain blocker primer then repaint. Some reviews say you don't need to do this but they told me the top coat will pull up the color (mine was dark brown stain). I bought their brand so now after priming, repainting and top coat they are beautiful. My first time with using Milk Paint and couldn't be happier.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 10, 2017Size: 32 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)Color: Seagull GrayVerified PurchaseLoved the paint, it covered our kitchen cabinets well and dried non-tacky in record time! Used a foam roller for flat areas and small foam brushes for smaller crevices as others recommended after cleaning the cabinets with TSP substitute and rinsing. The issue,we ordered 2 quarts of the seagull gray and the one of the high performance top coat from General Finishes, ALL THREE cans broke open in transit and leaked. They were not packaged well enough or not sealed well enough. That is a problem, especially when spending roughly $30 a quart, very irritating.

Size: 32 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)Color: Seagull GrayVerified PurchaseI purchased 2 quarts of seagull grey milk paint. My cupboards were light brown wood before. They turned out amazing. The paint went on very easy and didn't take long to dry. We sealed them with high performance satin top coat. They look amazing now. We love our new kitchen look.
