Editorial Reviews

Three-time Grammy winner and visionary roots-music storyteller, Keb' Mo', embarks on a new chapter in his career with the release of BLUES AMERICANA on Kind of Blue Music. His twelfth full-length album marks the 20th anniversary of his self-titled debut. But, more importantly, the disc is a signpost of artistic and personal growth. 'I only make albums when I'm inspired to, and these 10 songs come from a very honest place,' Keb' relates. 'BLUES AMERICANA is the beginning of the next phase of who I am.' Recorded in Nashville, and produced by Keb' Mo' and Casey Wasner, BLUES AMERICANA features some of the three-time Grammy winner's most poignant and joyful songs. Wall Street Journal's 'Speakeasy' premiered the first single, 'The Old Me Better,' which gets it's Crescent City sound from guest artists The California Feetwarmers.

I ordered this twice and never received it. Wanted to give a copy to a friend because I have had this CD before. This man is super cool in his music.

I've been thinking quite a bit about the future of good blues music. Will the blues survive without new blood to replace the great blues artists from the 50's and 60's? You know 'em, John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, Nina Simone to name a few. Today was a great blues day for me because I purchased a tribute album of Jackson Brown songs called "Looking Into You: A Tribute To Jackson Brown" and one of the great Jackson Browne songs "Rock Me On The Water" came up sung by Keb Mo. "Holy Crap.....this guy is good" I said to myself. Went back on Amazon and purchased a couple of Keb Mo CD's with "Auto Rip".... one being 'Bluesamericana'. I was wrong! This guy isn't a good blues musician....he's a GREAT blues musician. Right off the bat with the first track "The Worst Is Yet to Come" this album is kick ass blues. When have you ever heard the line in a blues song "the dog s*** on the floor"? Just part of another bad day I guess but I chuckled to myself when I heard it. The song "move" is an excellent toe tappin' blues song...."just pack up your stuff and just MOVE". " "Old Me Better" is a fun song with a New Orleans jazz flavor. "More for your money" is a fun "Leon Redbone style" ditty. Is there such a thing as a "pretty" blues song? if so, "So Long Goodbye" is a pretty blues song. If you love classic blues, give a listen to this album. I think you'll agree that 'Bluesamericana' is one of those "every song is good" albums. Five stars plus!

While Keb' Mo's version of "Rock Me On the Water" from the Jackson Browne tribute is zooming up in my personal top ten, "Bluesamericana" bursts on the scene. The set starts with a classic Mo' toe tapper, "The Worst Is Yet to Come" where a little bit of cynicism bounces on a juicy beat, "Didn't get no breakfast; Didn't get no lunch, but I did get two weeks notice, they gonna close that factory up." Colin Linden's mandolin spices up the mix. "Move" is another riveting track with Keb's tasty guitar riffs light as pixie dust that masks the darkness in the lyric, "Tippin' in the house scared to death; You've taken just about all you can stand; Now'd be the right time to leave that man; It's time to move." Keb' Mo' raging sense of humor is on total display on "The Old Me Better" with its ragtime arrangement and the wry lyric, "I'd sleep all day, party all night, do whatever I wanted, whatever I like; You made a brand new man, but I like the old me better." The set closes with a slow sad breakup blues ballad, "My love for you is true; I don't want nobody but you, but the one thing I cannot ignore, I don't move you anymore." Keb' Mo's muse was fully intact for these sessions! Enjoy!

I started buying Keb Mo’ music when I saw he made the album Taj/Mo with Taj Majal.
I purchased BLUESAMERICANA (2014) first with the earlier Keb Mo’ (short for Kevin Moore) albums—Keb Mo, Slow Down, and Just Like You—purchased soon after. BLUESAMERICANA is arguably Keb’s best.
The Worst Is Yet to Come is the first attention-grabbing-song while The Old Me Better is the song that is amusing, old school cool, and the one I remember the most. In between is the contemporary and mellow love song For Better Or Worse which is followed by the simple and bluesy That’s Alright. On That’s Alright Keb demonstrates his studio recording prowess by playing Bass, Harmonica, Slide, electric Guitar, and Organ—yes, on the same song.
    Steve Jordan adds drums.
Keb Mo’ blues vocals are easy on the ears. Not strained or shrieking but smooth and insightful.
One less mellow tune to close the 10 song album (CD) would have been a plus, but, Keb is not a radical electric bluesman guitar player (see Freddy King, Luther Allison…) and he probably never will be.
Keb Mo’ is definitely an accomplished singer songwriter musician.
If you like Taj Majal you will like Keb Mo’.

What does a New England girl know about the blues? More than you might think… Why should you read this review? Obviously, you’re reading this because you want to know what I think about BluesAmericana. Here it is - I am absolutely delighted with Keb Mo’s most recent release! Not only does it deliver musically, but it delivers me from my own mundane existence. It does what music is intended to do. There’s no better feel good music like the blues – and BluesAmericana does just that. Keb Mo clearly understands that life can be both dark and light, distress and hope, tragedy and joy. Lyrics and music are woven together to elicit all of those emotions. Whether he’s singing about contemporary themes (The Worst Is yet To Come, More For Your Money) or relationships (Do It Right, The Old Me Better) he’s nailing it. When I hear “So Long Goodbye” it takes me to a powerful old memory, and it elicits great gratitude for the fact that I found a far better path. This one’s got Grammy written on it folks! Buy it now to enjoy both the feeling it brings to you personally, and then to enjoy the feeling of saying to your friends - “I bought that one when it first came out.”

A parte qualche piccolo calo di tensione nella parte centrale del disco, davvero un bel lavoro. Keb Mo' è ritornato in ottima forma. Suoni curatissimi, come sempre. I primi 4 pezzi filano che è una bellezza

Super addition to your blues library. We love Keb in out house hold. Playing is super and the singing is too. Only 10 tracts on the cd which are all good even though I wished it would go on. Sad the cd wasn't available in the lp form. This is classic blues, foot tapping good.
