- Reviewed in the United States on January 14, 2017This three-disc set of jazz and big band-era popular tunes from Woody Allen's films is outstanding. Mr. Allen has very good taste in music, so the listener gets some of the best of this kind of music, personally chosen for his movies by one of the world's great film makers and jazz buffs. (There's also one excellent Caruso opera recording from MATCH POINT.) This set provides listening pleasure from start to finish.
The producers of this set had a great idea in compiling this music for those of us who enjoy Mr. Allen's films and, like me, may have first learned some of these recordings from those films. The sound quality of the recordings, some very old, is excellent throughout. The CD booklet is very well done, with a nice short essay about Mr. Allen's film music and some short excerpts from interviews with him. It also lists the artists and recording dates for each number, and has brief information about each film, with thumbnail reproductions of the posters for the films. Clearly, the producers put some time and thought into this collection.
I can highly recommend this very enjoyable set.
(Update: My original review mistakenly said that the producers of this set had included the wrong version of "I've Heard That Song Before" by Harry James. When I re-watched HANNAH AND HER SISTERS recently, I saw in the credits that Allen had used Harry James' Capitol recording of the song from the 50s rather than the original Columbia recording from the 40s, as I had thought. As such, the producers of this set got it right by using the later recording.)
- Reviewed in the United States on March 28, 2017Just purchased this 3 CD compilation along with another Cd with the same cover titled "Swing in the films of Woody Allen.". I thought it was a part 2 companion CD of a series. When I received both CD's, I noticed that the CD titled "Swing in the films of Woody Allen was also included in the 3 CD compilation. My mistake. Fortunately, I was able to return it, but I thought I should let everyone know so they would not make the same mistake I did. The song selection is mostly Jazz and has a terrific nostalgic feel to it. All the songs were digitally remastered in 24 bit so they sound great.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 6, 2021I guess I hadn't read the description in enough detail, but I was pleasantly surprised when this turned out to be a 3-disc set! And it is just the type of music I like, and have admired in Woody Allen films.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent buy at promo price if you don't want to buy all the individual albums
Woody Allen is a director who definitely prefers jazz standards for his soundtracks. The problem however is, due to his extensive catalog of movies, it may cost you to collect them all and some have become collector items. This compilation gives a good overview of more popular jazz tunes used in Woody Allen soundtracks, the sound quality is not top-notch but acceptable given the age of some of these original recordings and it's a budget way to transport yourself into the Woody Allen soundtrack vibe. Put it on your wishlist and wait for a promo price and it's a good recommended deal.
