- Reviewed in the United States on June 25, 2017A tall rock and roll album that reaches the roots as well as reaching fresh new heights.
Each track is full of energy and bursting with creativity. At heart, its a rock album with occasional excursions into acoustic riffs. The compositions are catchy, riffs tending to stay in my head for days and months, and slowly moving its way towards the songs that never ever seem to leave my subconscious (The big empty and Seven Nation Army being some songs that always stay in my head). Most importantly, Taylor's voice is at its peak performance. It's strong and confident and really displays a lot of range. The production is stellar, doesn't hide any insecurities in the tracks, but seeks to display their strong points.
Lyrically, TPR have matured, slightly. Their previous album seems to be more focused on identity and precocious sexuality, this record is more involved with violence, sinning, a predilection towards youth, and yes sexuality, but structures it into a more coherent narrative. I've heard Taylor Momsen likens these songs to a story, and although i haven't uncovered what it is yet, i can hazard a guess. It seems the character she creates views the violence of the world, school shootings, church condemnation, drug use, and instead of being troubled by it, accepts it for the way it is.
My only criticism, is its standout titular track, seems almost a rehash of "going down' from their previous record. And looking forward to their their third reveals another track of similar lyrical topics. I'm not sure how i feel about, because the rest of the record displays so much growth, its hard to really knock it for one track.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 11, 2024I'm in love with this woman. Her band is insanely under rated.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 12, 2023I love this album. There's not a bad track to be had. Great writing, great musicianship and exceptional vocals.
What I don't like is the fact I received the 'Explicit' version (which is what I wanted) with a censored back cover and partially censored lyric sheet (the vulgar form of 'fornicate' is printed in the lyrics for track 10 but censored repeatedly for track 11), yet they post a picture of the back cover uncensored in the item listing. Truly ridiculous. Perhaps the back cover and lyric sheet were changed universally by the manufacturer to simplify packaging between the explicit and clean versions, but for whatever reason it's a testament to track 11's premise: It's a f$%#ed up world, lol.
Buy it, enjoy it and while you're listening, raise a toast with your favorite beverage to Lenny Bruce.
Rock on...

- Reviewed in the United States on March 9, 2024Pretty Reckless was delivered well packaged without issue. Plays perfect. I have many of their albums on CD but now getting the vinyl versions. Thanks.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 24, 2022First, I did get the correct explicit version. Now for the album: A near perfect pressing. Better than many 180g "audiophile" pressing. Of course I already own a digital copy of all the Pretty Reckless music, I'm 65 and playing this album reminded me why I hated top 40 radio when I was young. This album is everything that rock music is suppose to be. The Pretty Reckless is one of just a few real ROCK bands that have made it big in the last decade. Radio Executives have gutted and destroyed the Rock and Roll industry. Any-who. Thank You!! Pretty Reckless for a true Rock Experience. Keep em coming.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 2, 2015The album Going to Hell by the band The Pretty Reckless is a very intense rock album with a softer song at the end of the album to close it out. The lead singer of the band as such an amazing voice remains me of other female rockers like Pat B, Joan Jett, S Nicks, and more modern singers as Lizzy Halestorm, Sherily Manson of Garbage, and Amy Lee. I personally liked every single track on this album even though track 6 Dear Sister is only a minute long, and track 9 is roughly two minutes long. But if your a fan of music videos and this band, please check out the music videos for House on a Hill and F----- Up World quite intresting videos and well worth your time. But just saying this for fans of this band the song Sweet Things is so very creepy in more ways then one speaking of course of the lyrics. So in closing the album Going to Hell a true rock album with songs you can sing along to over and over again and never grow tired of the lryics.
