- Reviewed in the United States on August 15, 2014After watching the music documentary on the Eagles, and seeing the way the malicious, narcissistic and greedy Glenn Frey treated Don Felder, I must admit I purchased this cd out of sympathy and solidarity with Don Felder, almost a donation, not really expecting anything. Figuring it would be one of those cd's you listen to once then put on some shelf to be forgotten, I could not have been more wrong or more surprised. This album is good! It plays all day. Whoever said Felder couldn't write or sing did not know what they were talking about. The rumor that Felder wrote "Hotel California" the Eagles greatest hit, is obviously true. Unlike the most recent Eagles album, which is so forgettable I can't even remember the title, I enjoy the music and lyrics of all of Felder's songs. On top of that, it is obvious that this album was a serious labor of love, no sloppy playing, singing, or messy recording, a completely professional effort. If you are wondering where the Eagles went, they walked out the building with Don Felder. Every song is like an Eagles hit. Felder has more of the Eagles in him than the other four tired wannabes together. If you want to hear good music that continues where the original Eagles left off, Don Felder has exactly what you are looking for.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 28, 2012I was an Eagles fan when I was a teenager and remember looking at the On the Border album liner notes and wondering to myself: Who is Don felder? After hearing the difference in the sound on that album and the later albums, I came to appreciate Don Felder's music. The Eagles music had a harder edge and I loved his guitar work. Obviously Hotel California, Victim of Love, and Visions are great songs, all of which were at least partially written by Don, but I didn't hear too much from Don after that except from the Heavy Metal soundtrack.
Well, I can say that it was defintely worth the wait - Road to Forever is great! It starts out right away with Don on the slide on "Fall from the Grace of Love' and on that one you will hear the unmistakable harmony of Crosby Stills and Nash. There are many other guest musicians including Randy Jackson (on Someday) and Leland Sklar. I am blown away by the well written songs on this album and how they fresh and yet familiar at the same time. Don's voice if full of confidence and sounds good.
I look forward to future work from Don.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 20, 2012Well worth every penny I just spent on this CD.
This one will be played for quite some time and is a SOLID release.
No stinkers here and I highly recommend you get to know this quality release better.
I've a been a long time Eagles fan and like many of you will agree that the talent and chemistry added by Felder's arrival in 74 was a shot in the arm much along the same lines of Mr. Walsh's arrival a few years later.
I'm one of those fans who quickly realized how much of an MVP Donnie Felder was to all things Eagles. He truly gave them the overdrive they needed to separate themselves from all of the other popular 70's bands.
When "Airborne" was released back in the day, it definitely had its moments but I felt like it didn't go as deep and show as much fire as what Don was capable of.
With this release, it's all about the songs!
We know Don can crank away for hours on his Fender or Les Paul, but it's nice to hear such solid songwriting and production across the board.
I'm thrilled to see and hear Don step behind the mic and get this show on the road.
It's nice to hear Don singing as confident as he ever has. Not that he will ever be mistaken for one of the greatest vocalists ever, but it appears he has really gotten comfortable with his vocals in 2012.
"Road to forever" has some fantastic melodic rhythm playing found within these tracks. It's the meat and potatoes of this release and really propels these songs to another level.
Don picked a great songwriting partner in Timothy Drury and it's also great to see that Tommy Shaw of Styx getting a few co-writes in here.
Fall from the grace of love is by far the best track on this release and the one I can't get enough of. If there is any justice in this world, it would become a top 40 hit. Great to hear Crosby/Stills/Nash along for the ride!
"I believe in you" is a stellar slow tempo tracks which will demand repeated listening's.
"You don't have me" is definitely one of the hardest hitting tracks and I'm relishing that solo at 2:26!! : -)
Other standout tracks include "Girls in black", "Wash Away", "Someday", and the tile track "Road to forever"
It's also not a bad thing to have some other exemplary vets of the music scene along (Lukather, Paich, and Porcaro) for the ride
All in all, "Road to forever" is a consistent and engaging release from Don Felder.
This is a welcome addition to my music collection and one that should be added to yours.
Bravo Don!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 10, 2013Don Felder's first solo cd in quite some time is a mixed bag.
The packaging of the cd is top-notch (digipack)and includes a booklet with pictures. The cd is on a small label called Rocket Science Ventures.
The set includes 12 songs written or co-written by Don. Lyrically, it breaks no new ground and is downright bland at times. Melodically (musically) it is more interestng. The title track is a cool song but would have been even better if it would have stayed with a complete acoustic representation. Give My Life, the last track on the cd, might be my favorite. I like the general sentiment of Money but it is just too cliched.
The cd tends to grow on you the more you listen to it. Felder is not a great vocalist and you can hear why he never garnered a lead with the Eagles (not many others could of in that band). Also, there are too few guitar break-outs for him on this cd (a la Hotel California).
However, it does have a overall cool vibe. There is a sweetness to the production that makes it easy on the ears. The cd will stay in my collection with a slight recommendation to those of you in Amazon land.

5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant singer songwriter
If anyone is still wondering what happened to this brilliant ex-Eagle then this CD is for you. Composing all songs on this reissued and extended album Felder delivers a flawless performance. Excellent album.

5.0 out of 5 stars This album not only proves that Don Felder wrote Hotel ...
This album not only proves that Don Felder wrote Hotel Cali, ..., and many other Eagles songs, but Frey/Henley should be embarrassed that they got rid of this full-fledged Eagle.
The Eagles may have wrote "Get Over it", but Don Felder's Albums answers that with: He's "Over You", because he let it "Wash Away", on the "Road To Forever".
Maybe the Eagles lost this gem of a musician, but that's ok, 'cause we ALL have him now to ourselves.

3.0 out of 5 stars Buon disco
Se siete fans degli eagles come me non si può non comprare. Ottimo chitarrista ma sicuramente non eccellente come canzoni. Mi aspettavo qualcosa in più dopo tutti questi anni
