As a radio guy, I look for creative groups and Whiskey Myers fits the bill. In fact, I have all 3 CDs. Granted their first CD was a nice quality release where Whisky Myers showed their talent and found their style. The second release had a great variety of more seasoned songs including Bar Guitar and Honky Tonk Crowd.

With the third CD, you can tell Whiskey Myers has followed the trends of the crowd, vying for that Southern Rock feel of Bar, Guitar and Honky Tonk Crowd. The do offer some variety but it is not as substantial as their second CD. You get creative melodies, interesting musical twists and such and even a couple of deep songs like "Where The Sun Don't Shine".

My only negative is I would like to see more of the variety found on the second CD but I understand when a certain sound is currently defining you, you gotta dance with the one that brought you. I think CD #4 might offer a bit more variety. I waver between a 4 and 5 on this and must give a 5 because of the band's refusal to do cookie cutter music.

Meanwhile, this CD is sure a good one and will certainly set the stage for more gigs, bigger ventures, more fans and a more secure musical future for some hard working and talented guys. When you think creative and interesting musical roads to travel, Whiskey Myers is paving that highway as they go. So, grab this, crank it up, rip off the knob and fasten your seat belt for a fun ride down their musical highway

I bought the "Firewater" CD and fell in love with these guys. After listening to this one"Early Morning Shakes" I can't believe the difference.Probably "won't" listen to it again.Hoping for a Soulful Red Dirt Sound. This is pure Rock and screaming.Tryed to return for a refund and they want $5.99 to return it.Guess I'll regift it but I don't know who to.Tryed to return a Suzy Boggess CD and never got the Refund.I guess you buy it you own it.SAD!......(UPDATE).I was repotting plants in the back yard and put this on"Loud" and I felt really bad that I gave it such a bad review. After sweating my "Butt" off and settling down on the back porch. I put it on "Again!!".Obviously these guys have Big Led Zepplin,Aerosmith and Nirvana influences probably from their Parents but they actually pull it off with insightful perfection.Sorry i gave it such a bad review..I take it back.AND I got my Suzy Boggess refund.thanks Amazon and Whiskey Myers.

Whiskey Myers is back with their brand of Texas based southern rock and heavy country music. The new album titled Early Morning Shakes is the band’s third album, and their long awaited follow-up to the 2011 release Firewater. Firewater saw major success for the band in their home state of Texas, but only rose to #26 on the US Billboard Country charts. It’s time for the rest of the country to take notice as Early Morning Shakes is another great album following in the tradition of southern rock greats like Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Allman Brothers and more.

Early Morning Shakes is an album which sees the band taking more chances and delivering a range of emotions across an album that delivers their best southern rock yet. While Firewater delivered some catchy songs and focused more on a country sound, Early Morning Shakes brings the riff driven southern rock you would expect from a band like Whiskey Myers. Early Morning Shakes was produced by Dave Cobb, whose has also produced albums by Waylon Jennings, Shooter Jennings, Jason Isbell and Jamey Johnson.

There are some catchy tunes here, like the single “Home” and the opening track “Early Morning Shakes”. Elsewhere, there are a few longer southern rock ballads on the album with “Wild Baby Shake Me”, “Lightning” and “Colloquy”. These songs deliver the epic solos you’ve come to expect from southern rock acts like Lynyrd Skynyrd or The Outlaws. Other tracks like “Hard Row To Toe”, “Headstone” and “Where The Sun Don’t Shine” are riff heavy rockers that bring to mind the likes of Led Zeppelin and are sure to keep fans headbanging at their live shows. In addition to these originals, the band even covers a David Allan Coe classic “Need A Little Time Off For Bad Behavior” with a heavier sound than the original Coe cut which makes for a great cover choice.

Early Morning Shakes feels like it could be a breakout album for a band that deserves it. They have paid their dues with three solid albums under their belts, non-stop tours with around 200 dates in 2013 alone, including opening for nationally known country acts like Eric Church. The album shows diversity from their earlier material, while the band stays true to the sound fans have come to expect from them. I can't wait to see this band live sometime in the future.

This is the 3rd 5 star album in a row from Whiskey Myers!!!!!!!! This band only makes fantastic music. Another album you can put on and never look for a good song, because they are all good. If you ever get a chance to see them live, do it. You will be blown away witheir show. Nothing, but pure energy. I will be seeing them for the 5th time in April. in La Grange,Texas. My hometown. Lol. Again just get this album. Pure clean music! None of this brain dead garbage rock on the radio. Oh, and these guys are cool as hell in person. Down to earth guys.

5.0 out of 5 stars South rise again!
Reviewed in Italy on November 15, 2014

5.0 out of 5 stars What an Album...

I loved their previous two Albums, especially Firestone, this however is a different beast altogether.
I can't believe no one else on here has reviewed it yet.
Simply put this a a perfect blend of southern, country, blues and rock n roll.
There are no weak tracks, and plenty of standouts.
Think along the lines of Blackberry Smoke, The Cadillac Three, The Black Crowes and you're not far away.
But by no means a copycat of any of the above, Whiskey have their own definitive sound.
The guys obviously have had a bigger budget for this Album and the expansive sound is very clear and used wisely.
If you love (like me) any or all of the above this will bring a huge smile to your face.
    A seriously seriously brilliant album.
Standout tracks: Early Morning Shakes, Hard Road to Hoe, Headstone, Wild Baby Shake Me
