I'm a newbie to classical music, and I decided the way to learn was to get what I could from the masters whose names I know. Of course Perlman was my first choice for violin. It's not just a delightful group of pieces, it is an education into what a violin can do. What might be too corny for an experienced classical buff is just right for those of us who grew up on rock 'n roll, and only ever knew classical as what our music teachers bored us to death with in school. Aside from the sound track to "Clockwork Orange," of course.
