Rodent poisons pass through the mice and kill owls and hawks and other predators (including cats) that consume the poisoned mouse. This trap eliminates that and saves endangered foul.
This trap catches the mouse and makes him wait in "the waiting room". You then take the trap a couple miles away to a nearby field or wooded area, and release him. You get the fun of watching it scurry away, and the satisfaction of knowing you may have just given a larger animal an easy meal. Still better than instant kill traps or poisons.
Not only that but they work better. Mice are naturally drawn to tunnels and tubes. Add some GRANOLA inside, and a spec of peanut butter on the inside of the tunnel, and you have a trap they cannot resist. I use these in my home, in my basement, and in my greenhouse.
This Southern Housewares brand trap is made as good as any. It works perfectly. Like others, I do wish it had a metal twist handle, but Im not paying 3 times the price for that feature. If it ever breaks Ill rig something up.

Broke immediately.
The plastic handle you turn to set the trap broke off under light pressure. The instructions say to turn the knob until it becomes hard to turn but I only turned it until it was under light pressure and it snapped off the first time it was triggered, anyway. The plastic knob hits a striker that stops it after half a turn (which is what it takes to eject a mouse into the trap housing) but the plastic knob is too weak to take the pressure of the strike. Maybe I just got a defective unit. As things stand, I have to give the trap a bad review since it broke immediately, but I will remove this review if the company sends me a replacement that actually functions. The concept is great.
