2000 puzzles grouped into five difficulty levels from “easy” to “extreme” that you can play anywhere, and there are no “ads” on my “free” version. These are pure logic puzzles that are similar to Sudoku, where you put a series of different numbers in a certain area, and there is very little math, which is used only to add up a column or row of single digit numbers.
The easy puzzles can be completed in minutes and the more complex puzzles may take hours, or days.
Great Interface, with notes and a “cheat” option that shows you the various combinations of numbers that may be selected for the current row and column. As you enter numbers, the combinations shown change to only show which number choices are still available. This option eliminates the need to add up the numbers to see what is missing.
You can start a new game on each level and switch back and forth. I don’t know if there is a limit, but I have had six open at the same time. Extreme game five is the hardest Kakuro game I have ever completed and Extreme game six seems to be above my skill set.
This app is great fun. And it helps with math skills, problem solving solving, and remembering are a great way to improve brain function. The only thing I have seen that I would change, Is in the hints. Numbers that are already on the board should be flagged, or highlight them to show that they are already there.
Good game but I don't like behavior when you win. App automatically closes game. And when you reopen closed won game it is blank like you never played it. Please don't close on win and show winning board when reopened. That way player can study board to better understand and improve.
Many years ago, I was introduced to & fell in love with sudoku, so it wasn't a stretch for me to embrace sudoku's slightly more moody & brainiac cousin, kakuro. This particular app is, by far, my favorite & believe me, I've tried several. The interface is very user friendly & I love the fact that this one is organized by level of difficulty--that affords me the opportunity to, depending on my mood, choose how diabolical I want my "kakuro time" to be. There is even an easy to toggle off/on "cheat mode", which provides a list of all possible numerical combinations for each row & column in the puzzle. Unlike most "free apps", this one truly is free, and the appearance of easy to escape ads, is very rare.
My only complaint is the fact that there is no pause button--but really, with all the pros of this app, my con pales greatly.
I downloaded this app wary of both Kakuro itself and the features of this app. I wasn't sure how much I liked Kakuro, having only played with pencil and paper and taking quite a while on each puzzle... and looked for an app because I was bored, not because I was a kakuro fan. For whatever reason, I enjoy this app much more than the pen and paper game. One reviewer stated they would prefer the pencil marks to be in the order they touched the numbers and not numerical order, but to each his own - I find the numerical order AND the set positions within the cell for those numbers to help me better find the solutions, although it took some getting used to. There is at least one minor bug, but it isn't a deal breaker - if you sleep the kindle before closing the full-screen ad that pops up after every game, the app goes blank and needs to be forced to quit and restarted. I also found the fact that the ads use location services the entire time the app is running to be quite annoying as well, since that drains battery life and if I must view ads I'd prefer the ad vendors not be able to target me by location... which is an easy fix, seeing as it's easy enough to disable location services system-wide,leaving me with generic ads that eat up less battery life. In short, a good app that managed yo turn me into a kakuro fan when I wasn't seeking to become one.
One of my favorite ways to kill time waiting in line. Great app. Anyone who likes Sudoku should like this game. Great way to develop young brains or keep old ones like mine sharp.
There are 5 difficulty levels with 400 puzzles each. This features the ability to pencil in possible number. Also, when you select a box, it shows you all the possible number combinations for the across sum, as well as the down sum. When you figure out a number and "pen" it in, then it shows only the number combinations that include that number. And you can always erase your pencil marks and pen marks if need be.
However, 1) There is no music. With most games like this, there is some soft, relaxing music included in the game
2) Whenever you completely fill in a sum, if the numbers don't add up to the sum, the numbers turn red. Now, I've only played easy; I do not know if that feature exists on the higher difficulties. If so, I personally feel it is too much "hand holding," although I can certainly see the benefit.
Overall, as someone who has loved Kakuro for years, I do really enjoy this game. This game is good for Kakuro fans and newcomers alike.
