It's almost not fair for me to review this release since I pretty much was gonna love it no matter what, almost not fair. Despite me being a huge fan of the band and Ivan, I know it's a great album despite my bias. One thing I have to say is that the songs are freakin catchy on here. I literally can't get them out of my head. I enjoy all their music and my actual favorite songs by the band are not even on this album (not yet anyway, I need to spend more time with it and I'm sure that will change.) but these tunes are sticking with me more so than any of the other albums. I'm not much of a sing along kinda guy, I prefer to listen and listen well. But I've been breaking my own self imposed rule over and over since I downloaded this. I practically have me Lift Me Up memorized from when I got the single, that's how much I listened to it. I don't usually have the time to do a song by song breakdown, but I'll make a small exception this time.
Lift Me Up - one of my favorite songs on here, good to hear Rob Halford joining in, great way to start things off, actually is kinda uplifting
Watch You Bleed - it's a good song, similar to stuff they have done in the past, but fun to listen to all the same
You - this is an interesting song, I kinda love it, maybe because it fits alot of people I can think of that fit that "you" role but I repeat this one alot
Wrong Side of Heaven - the titular track and again similar to stuff they have done before, it's very good, I personally prefer the heavier and angrier tracks (in general, not just by 5FDP) so it's not one of my favorites on here but I still like it
Burn MF - I love this song and I'm not afraid to admit it, it is a really fun song and definitely one of my favorites on here
I.M Sin - might as well just read what I wrote for the last song, exact same feeling
Anywhere But Here- this is the song it took me longest to adjust to, I had to listen to it a few times before I got into it, but I did and I enjoy it now
Dot Your Eyes - this is my favorite song one this album hands down, I love it, repeat it over and over and sing along as well, if I had a theme song this would be it
MINE - this one falls under the "I like it but it's not going to be a favorite of mine" category
Mama Said Knock You Our - ok so IMO this one should not be on here, I don't like this song at all, maybe it's because I never liked the original version or maybe it's because it feels really out of place here or maybe it's both, I almost took off a star but I couldn't do it for just one song
Diary of a Deadman - another interesting one, starts off like a little story then instrumental than Ivan interjects at the end, not one of my favorites but not bad either
I.M Sin 2 - no change in my opinion for the collaboration, still love it
Anywhere But Here 2 - this one is odd because it seems to feature more Maria Brink than the version that says it features Maria Brink (unless I'm wrong on who I'm hearing here but I definitely don't think so) and IMO this version as a duet sounds better than the other one and hearing this version a few times made me appreciate the song more
Dot Your Eyes 2 - this version is too much for me to handle LOL it's already my favorite song on the album snd then it has to go and feature Jamey Jasta (who I think is freakin awesome btw) and now I love the song even more, if I could have had one request it would have been to equalize Ivan and Jamey's parts but not gonna complain
All in all, many of the songs on here do feel similar to their past works but is that really a bad thing? Not to me. Yet at the same time the album somehow manages to give off a slightly different vibe than their other albums. Is that a bad thing? Not to me. The album is quite good overall, very catchy, nice and heavy in your face ass kickin style you expect from 5FDP. You know it is them, still doing what they do and doing it well. I highly recommend this to all fans out there and if you are not a fan yet, get this album and their older ones and become a knucklehead for goodness sake. I cannot wait for volume 2 and hope it exceeds this one. Any trash talkers about this album can come see me and I'll dot their eyes and ..... LOL!!!!!

- Reviewed in the United States on August 23, 2013This album is so freakishly good that it is almost incomprehensible that people having listened to it aren't in a coma brought on by happiness overload. Each and every time I slip on the headphones and crank this CD up to volume 11 it makes me want to shave with a rusty cheese grater and steal my neighbors van so I can customize it with shag carpeting and big gnarly skulls everywhere but I can't afford the court fees for Grand theft auto charges or the medical bills to correct my cheese grater scars so I make due with just banging my head repeatedly. These guys are true Metal Gods and should be worshiped as such so get down on your knees and thank them everyday for giving you the will to carry on as I do at least a dozen times a day. I feel somebody should create a new religion built around worshiping FFDP and it should be called Knucklhedianity!!! If you happen to listen to this album and find it anything less than the greatest music ever made then you are obviously some kind of socially deformed Beiber fan that needs a good but-kicking. We should start a petition to rename the nations capitol to Five-Finger-Death-Punchvilleburgopolistania and change the stars on the flag to brass knuckles, we can change the national bird to a giant skull with feathers glued to it and call it a Knuckle-headed death vulture. We can have the national anthem changed to every FFDP song in row one after the other. We should change the national past time to FFDP moshing and turn it into a sport with teams and a Superbowl and everything.... that would be awesome!!! Well that's my review now I'm off to write my congressman and get the ball rolling on this Nations Capitol re-naming thing, Go ahead and buy the album and then make your friends, coworkers, family, priest, dentist, auto mechanic, babysitter, maid, the guy across the street that still dresses like it's the 70's, the mailman, and your dog listen to it EVERY single day!!!!!
Peace out!!!!!
The dude on too much coffee and not nearly enough sleep!!!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 8, 2015I have been a FFDP fan since they were playing 200 person clubs 10 years ago. Their first 2 albums are masterpieces of hard driven yet soulful metal. So, they have a lot to live up to. It is kind of like hitting a grand slam your first 2 times at bat. It is hard to beat that.
However, this is a great album all the same. Its production value is extremely high. It sounds great at any volume. Jeremy Spencer is, as usual, on the top of his game and the rest of the band is tight. There is a little higher melodic value to the guitar lines which I liked. Sometimes FFDP has a tendency to sound mathematical on their riffs and solos. I am not complaining...they are great. But this album explores a little bit of a melodic side. However, one thing that completely stands out on this album is Ivan. This is his best album without question. In his other albums he has always been versatile and powerful and there has always been moments really showing off his melodic talent. Wrong Side of Heaven has a lot of those transitional vocal moments that really make you appreciate the talent of Ivan.
The title track is a little ballad-like and I am sure it was one of those tunes they expected to be on the radio...and it is. But Ivan is so good on that track that you really come to understand the range of his talent. Then they follow it up with "Burn MFer," and Ivan is back to his fist in the air, heavy, bad ass yet soulful self. It is just a really nice display of his versatility and power.
This is not as good as Way of the Fist, or War Is the Answer but it is still a "must own."

5.0 out of 5 stars Overall
Heavy metal is for outsiders, we know that. Its aggression and subversive ideology ensure its anchorage to the underground, regardless of the offshoots which break the mainstream from time to time. That's the reason it will last a lifetime, but take a moment to consider the people swept up by those commercial trends, the fans for whom the passing of time has dragged them kicking and screaming from the music they loved. Nu metal is a prime example. While the more recent phenomenon of commercial metalcore continues to pump out fringed riff-peddlers some eight years on, it's been slim pickings for the brutish, protein-shake types since the turn of the millennium. Although Five Finger Death Punch play a much updated and far from pure version of what nu metal was (they notably feature guitar solos, previously the genre's kryptonite) the all-American stars fill the gap perfectly. They're heroes.
