Vitamin K2 And The Calcium Paradox: How a Little-Known Vitamin Could Save Your Life Kindle Edition
The secret to avoiding calcium-related osteoporosis and atherosclerosis While millions of people take calcium and Vitamin D supplements thinking they're helping their bones, the truth is, without the addition of Vitamin K2, such a health regimen could prove dangerous. Without Vitamin K2, the body cannot direct calcium to the bones where it's needed; instead, the calcium resides in soft tissue (like the arteries)—leading to a combination of osteoporosis and atherosclerosis, or the dreaded "calcium paradox." This is the first book to reveal how universal a Vitamin K2 deficiency is, and the risk (in the form of cancer and diabetes, among other ailments) the absence of Vitamin K2 poses.Written by Dr. Kate Rheaume-Bleue, a popular health expert on Canadian television and radio, Vitamin K2 and the Calcium Paradox sounds a warning about the popularity of the calcium and Vitamin D craze, while illustrating the enormous health benefits of Vitamin K2 in making the body less susceptible to dental cavities, heart disease, prostate cancer, liver cancer, diabetes, wrinkles, obesity, varicose veins, and other ailments.
- The book demystifies this obscure supernutrient—a fat soluble vitamin that humans once thrived on, ignored by scientists for almost seventy years
- Details how the consumption of grass-fed animals led to adequate Vitamin K2 intake—while grain-based animal feed helped eradicate Vitamin K2 from our diets
- Describes how doctors are raising recommended doses of calcium and Vitamin D—without prescribing Vitamin K2
- Details more damning facts about transfats—and how the creation of a synthetic Vitamin K interfered with the body's Vitamin K metabolism
An essential book for anyone interested in bone health, or maintaining their overall health, Vitamin K2 and the Calcium Paradox is the guide to taking the right combination of supplements—and adding Vitamin K2 to a daily regimen.

From the Back Cover
Learn the secret to avoiding osteoporosis and heart disease.
Millions of people take vitamin D and calcium supplements for bone health. New research shows that this actually increases the risk of heart attack and stroke because the added calcium builds up in arteries—the calcium paradox. The secret to keeping bones strong and arteries clear is vitamin K2, a little-known supernutrient that humans once thrived on and that has been ignored by scientists for almost 70 years.
Inside this book, you'll find:
How consumption of grass-fed animals traditionally provided us with ample quantities of vitamin K2—while grain-based animal feed contributed to the eradication of vitamin K2 in our modern diet
How K2 is the most important anti-aging nutrient for fighting wrinkles, Alzheimer's, heart disease, osteoporosis and more
The health benefits K2 promotes for straight, cavity-free teeth and strong bones in children
Which delicious "sinful" foods are brimming with heart-healthy K2
Ways you can safely get the most benefit from your calcium and vitamin D supplements

- Reviewed in the United States on March 31, 2025I have just finished this book and I was very impressed with its content. I will be making the reading of this book an important message in nutritional health for all my family and friends.
I am a retired MD, who retired 14 years ago, after 36 years of Family Medicine (half the time in Canada and the second half in the US). Most of the information presented by the author was not well known or known at all when I retired in 2011. The focus then was on cholesterol and fat as major factors in heart disease. That data has become more suspect with time, however. I now believe that the interaction of Vitamin D, Vitamin K2 and Vitamin A are the major players in heart disease.
Interestingly, the place where the author grew up, West Island area of Montreal is exactly where I grew up and was educated. I mention this because, one of the major takeaways in the book is the idea that people have that you can get at VitaminD from the summer sunshine. This totally scraped when she shows the data shown by living north of the 40 th parallel (an area including all of Canada and a large part of the northern US. Most people cannot get the needed Vitamin D in their diet and would need to supplement.
As she mentions, the low fat diet which Is recommended, by physicians is particularly poor in supplying the other component of calcium metabolism, Vitamin K2. What allopathic medicine has done is to make heart disease more likely than not. These vitamins, D, K2, and A, when they are low, have also been associated with countless malignant tumors. The idea to avoid direct sunlight and use “sunscreen “, does not even have a benefit in preventing malignant melanoma.
I have just taken a loading dose of Vitamin D and I can say that I have not felt as well in years. I am also taking Vitamin K2 and magnesium.
Thank you for your tremendous book and by the way, I did my Family Practice Residency at McMaster University and while doing so, my wife and I rented a house in Ancaster, Ontario. Lots of luck in your career and book writing.
Dr. James Michael Bell, MD.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 6, 2013I ordered this book shortly after in Amazon haven received the recommendation to it, and then in the books title remarked, and then wandering, about the connection between the Vitamin K2 and Calcium, and therefore went into the book searching after more about what do the K2 have to do.
Each day, I and my wife, are taking the Calcium and Magnesium, together with the other standard Vitamins, which I during my life again and again have learned to do. But furthermore because my wife is having the problem with joint pains and we therefore further more are trying to prevent the normal women problems concerning especially the vertebra. And besides, personally, 6 years ago, I was through a surgery, after, luckily, by pain, having resulted in by X-ray discovering the bone in the right arm, up to the hand, being hollow.
But after in Amazon having ordered this book, I many times, in Amazon, went searching to find out what's writing we get in other books about respectively the Vitamins K1 and K2, instead of only learning of the K, but I, until now, have found nearly nothing. I owe more than 250 doctor and health books, and in the previous weeks, before ordering this book I was thinking about buying a 550 side's thick Biochemistry book, which is printed in 2010, and being used by studying persons. But even in this book, like in the other books in which I've been searching, I only have found writings about the Vitamin K, and not mentioning the K1 and the K2. And this when we in the actual book, "Vitamin K2 and the Calcium Paradox", learns about in which quite different important processes the K1 and the K2 are involved. So this book written by Dr. Kate Rhéaume-Bleue surely is extremely up to date. And by now I'm speculating about waiting to buy the actual Biochemistry book until it comes as a new up to day printing.
In the "Vitamin K2 and the Calcium Paradox" book we are getting much important, and helpful, information. For example, to me, it was helpful to read which amount of the Vitamin A we must take, as here in Thailand we only can get this Vitamin pill I a size containing 25.000 IU, and then being nearly impossibly to cut them in halves. So I've been talking about the problem with doctors and chemist's, as we in all of the books which I've been reading, in the previous months, only are allowed daily to taking 8.000 or 10.000 IU. But in this book we for example read that daily taking 25.000 IU, during 2 to 12 years, newer have shown any problems. But especially we also learn about the important connection between the Vitamins A and D.
But besides, as anther important information, we also learn much about the different half-life time for the 2 possible variants of the K2 which we can get. That is the HK-4 and HK-7, with their half-life times on respectively around 2 hour and 2 days. So that we have to use the HK-7, but in case we only can get the HK-4, then we have to part it over 3 times a day.
In this book we for example also read many interesting information about how the teeth have changed with the culture, how Dr. Price, more that 70 years ago wrote, and showed, that already the first generation on the western food and culture had the deformed teeth. And that the reason especially is coursed by pregnant women missing K2, as already then the previous dimension of the jaw, for the not yet born child, is determined.
But we also learn much about the importance of the K2 in the connections of among other: Diabetes, Arthritis, Brain, Nerve, Prostate Cancer, Lung Cancer, Liver Cancer, Leukemia, and Kidney Disease.
But actual, for most persons we are having the importance of KT in the connection with the Aortas, and thereby Hearth Attack. And here we in an actual case result see how fast the K2 helped, cleaning for the Blood to pas by in Aorta, as after only 10 month the Aorta had cleaned inside by trebling the square area, by making the passage diameter increase from 1.6 cm to 2.9 cm.
This book is absolutely a very important book, which in a couple of years nearly probably will be the only one in which we are getting the correct, and up to date, information concerning health.

1.0 out of 5 stars interesting but incomplete.
Not backed up by scientific trials. K2 blood level can't be analyzed and most of the trials with K2 were done on rats. Incomplete homework.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Science behind K2
Well written and researched with a great list of authentic references. Was just what I was after. The only negative was it was a bit repetitive. However, it was easy to read and very useful. We have changed what we eat because her arguments are so persuasive. My background is as a medical science researcher.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tres interessant .
