- Reviewed in the United States on July 30, 2016This is one of my favorite books, by one of my favorite authors. Amy Carmichael takes you through the ups and downs of living with chronic pain and illness the way only one who has been there can. She acknowledges the difficulty and sense of hopeless, the anguish and fear felt by those struggling to bear the terrible challenge of pain, all while never giving up and always, always reminding us to trust in God to see us through. I wish I could express myself like she does, but her words speak truth to my heart. This is a book to read and cherish and give to those you know who are hurting.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 24, 2009This book is wonderful and uplifting for any one who is ill. I have ALS and I am strengthened by Amy C's insight into the Sovereignty of God in all the difficult walks that come our way.
I would highly recommend this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 7, 2019I love this book because whatever I am going through, when I pick it up, the Lord meets me, comforts and strengthens me. I have been reading it for 38 years and will continue till I see That Day. I recommend it to anyone going through dark times, trials of any kind.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 20, 2017Comfort. That is the best one-word description for what Amy Carmichael offers in all her books - and her life. For those like myself who are trying to walk by faith in this difficult world, her words of encouragement and truth are lifelines. Gold Cord and Gold By Moonlight are on the top of my book pile and have been for 30 years.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 30, 2018It took a bit long to receive my package but this book was worth the wait.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 27, 2014Amy Carmichael was an amazing missionary making a home for many orphans. In the process, she went through so many struggles and we are so blessed to learn lessons from her. This book is filled with spiritual lessons to learn from physical things, object lessons to take to heart.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 29, 2017This book shows that a deep relationship with God helps us to travail in great difficulties and because of that our flame of hope never stops burning

4.0 out of 5 stars A gifted writer
Although written many years ago, the truths it contains are unchanging.
Amy writes from personal experience as she searches for answers and understanding in the face of pain.
Some brilliant insights will bring fresh hope to those facing suffering and it's consequences, but only if you share her faith in God.
