This app is very helpful for reinforcing what was learned with the McGuffey primer workbook we used. Interactive, nice drills and provided some variety for my homeschooled kindergartener this last year. I will use this with my next child also.

My children really like using this app. We are using this along with the McGuffey readers for homeschooling. It has really helped them to learn the letter sounds and learning some basic words so far. We are only on lesson 12. I gave it a 4 star rating for now because it takes awhile for the program to start. It has some kind of error. Every now and then the sounds do not load and we have to restart the app. I would still recommend this to anyone who has children learning to read.

I got this several years back when it was fairly new. It did a good job, but now with the changes “whenever they were made” made a huge difference. My 5 year old is loving it. He can go at his own pace and we can always go back to previous lessons to help strengthen areas. He loves the lightbulbs and the train. He loves the word builder and comes to me quite frequently with words he created/found and is excited. Thank you so much.

I reviewed this app in the past when I first started using it with my boys. Years later when my daughter was ready to start learning to read, I remembered how well this worked with my boys and looked it up only to find it was no longer available in the google play store. I finally found it here and saw that it was now $26! I had paid $5 for it in the past, so at first decided not to pay the $26! But after frustration with my daughter not doing well with learning to read, I finally bit the bullet and paid the $26! It said it was only compatible on one of our devices. I am so glad it worked! My daughter did the first lesson and I can tell it will really help her. The repetition and simple explanations are great. She can do it by herself with a little monitoring from me. This app made teaching reading less stressful with my boys, and will now help do the same thing with my daughter. So glad I could at least find it again and that we had one older device it worked on, even though I had to pay $26! I hope someone develops this app for newer devises and makes it cheaper! I love this app and highly recommend it. It's worth it if you have the right device for it to work on.

Because we used tablets not "registered" with Google Play or Amazon, we had to get this app directly from the manufacturer.

We run an academic enrichment program, and this app has become part of our curriculum. It is thoroughly thought out and takes you step by step through the McGuffey Primer curriculum. Each of the 50+ lesson is divided up into about 15+ parts or mini-lessons. Each lesson starts with letter sounds. Then student do various activities like guided reading, spelling, sight word speed recognition, etc. You can use this as a stand alone curriculum. The McGuffey Primer is available for FREE, so if you want to use it as your basic phonics/reading textbook, you can use this app as your worksheets and practice.

One feature I like is the guided reading activities. You can either touch the word, and it will sound it out for you. Or you can touch the bar under the word, and it will just read it for you. This works great for teachers looking for independent/station activities because it is self-checking.

Another thing I like is the variety of "reward" sounds and images that come up for the students when they do something right. It helps to keep their attention.

It takes my students about 15 minutes to work through all the parts of one lesson, sometimes up to 20 minutes.

So, if you like McGuffey, you will LOVE this app. Check out the McGuffey Eclectic Primer first to see if you like the progression and presentation. This app breaks McGuffey down into a bunch of exercises.

Note: It is a large application, so it does take a little bit of time (up to a minute and half) to load. When my tablet asks me if I want to "wait," I say yes. It always finishes loading. It is worth the wait.

One more thing.... I recommend this program for students who are comfortable with their basic letter sounds and identifying letters and who are ready to begin learning to read.

I know the price seems a bit steep on this one compared to other apps, but you are getting a comprehensive learning program.

I give it 5 stars. Thank you, Scott!

We love this app - The best money we have ever spent on an App.
Our 8 yr old girl is home schooled /Unschooled and recently realized it would be a good time for her to start to learn to read. We tried many other apps first and they just did not keep her attention, or you had to pay for the full app before you figured out if it was any good. We finally found your app and it was amazing how long the trial period was. When the app said your trail was up, weeks into using it and after she had taken 10 of the 50 lessons, I was never so happy to pay for the App. She has come such a long way thanks to your app. She has been working on it for a couple months now and well on her way to reading. Thanks you so much.

My husband has never learned to read. He is over 65. I downloaded this app and showed him how it works. He has been using it to teach himself to read, every day for about a month now. There hasn't been any miracle but he is making slow but steady progress. He likes using it because it gives him some control. He works at it in private, is not made to feel embarrassed or stupid. We finally feel that this is the break through we have been looking for.
