I've been using DroidEdit since it first came out. It's on a par with Jedit and Notebook++ that I use on my other devices. It is written well enough that it works on every Android device I have owned up to Android 13 though written for previous versions.

I use Ultra Edit on PC for my main editor.
This app I find good for edits on the go, for mobile it's a wonderful app.
To be able to edit via FTP to a clients website, when time is of the essence it really does the job.
I wouldn't want to use this for more then a quick editor though, for obvious lack of keyboard reasons.
Maybe if I had a keyboard ext for my Kindle it would work but I don't so I can't comment.

I am using this to do programming of websites on my Kindle. This is not a wysisyg... this is old fashion coding. It does offer you code hints, and the opportunity to review your work in a browser. I like this for quick fixes when traveling. I would not recommend this if you do not know how to code (html or others) because you will be lost with this ap. However this is the best coding ap for Android I have found and works great on my Kindle HD.

It has good performance and stuff, apperane is good, reaction times okay, however I am unsure how this will do with large files. It would be best to divide the files into subdivisions of work if you are scared to lose data. I used the free version before buying this, however I noticed that the pro abilities it promised were not being supported today. The STFP remote ssh connection, git hub repos, open in browser, and SL4A options all do not work. At first I thought I was doing things wrong... such as downloading the wrong SL4A but when I went over to the droid edit support websiter, it seems that the author has stopped supporting this application. If I knew that the pro stuff was not going to work then I would have just stuck to the free version.

Looks like it might have more potential with some additional features.
The help file and some other menu items are found only by long press on main screen.

I saw some of the other reviews, which had complaints about "Where's the Java compiler?" etc. And let me just point out that this is NOT a compiler. Its an editor. You use it to write code, not compile code. It does an awesome job of highlighting syntax and making your code structure visually easier to recognize. So while it isn't the only text editor on the market, this one does make editing code easier. Sure, you still have to take the code you saved and run it through your compiler, but that's sort of how all editors work, they use the compiler provided on your machine.

I like it. I think its a nice notepad like program and it does its job.

The idea is great but the execution is not that great. It's not user-friendly as you have to manually find and import compilers for each language but it is a good text editor. I also think it's a little misleading to state it can be used for many languages because while app supports many languages a compiler for each has to be located and then manually accessed.

That is to say "Droidedit - it's not you, it's me". :) The Kindle Fire HD (and don't get me wrong, I love mine) does not allow you to swap in different virtual/soft keyboards. At least not without doing some serious modifications that I am not willing to mess with.

The Kindle Fire HD's built-in Swype is a great keyboard for emails and web browsing, but the lack of alt, escape, control and tab keys make it a non-starter for programming editors. I believe that another reviewer is correct, the author of this program never tried it on a Kindle Fire HD. To be fair though, I suspect that it never occurred to him that the users of his program would not have access to a tab or a control key anymore that it would have occurred to him that his users would be missing the "a" key.

I do find it strange that the free version of this app is not Kindle Fire HD compatible but the paid is.

None the less, I do have a little Bluetooth keyboard and I expect that I will get my $2 worth from this program.

3.0 out of 5 stars Eigentlich fuenf Sterne, aaaaaber ....

    ## Testbedingungen Stock-Rom -> jeweils mit/ohne eingeschaltetem Energiesparmodus

    ## Testbedingungen Beta-Cyanogenmod-Rom folgen in kuerze ...

Fazit: Grundsaetzlich empfehlenswert! Jedoch zur Bearbeitung von groeßeren Dateien auf Geraeten mit durchschnittlicher Leistung nur bedingt geeignet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfecto para edición de texto o cualquier lenguaje de programación
Reviewed in Spain on November 23, 2013

I'd love to recommend it, but github ssh auth doesn't work. I'm not sure whether it's permissions/ownership of keys or something else. The website doesn't recommend anything. I use MFA for username passwords
