    I didn't want to watch this film, but there was nothing else on Encore I hadn't already seen. I didn't recognize the title, so I checked the listings. When I saw the stars, Freeman and Madsen, I figured it had to be good. So I sat down.

    What a surprise it turned out to be. It had so many elements of reality that it appeals to lots of people. The story turned on innocence. No violence. No nudity. The perfect G movie. But it invaded your thoughts and swept you away. For me, it was therapeutic. For some reason, I cried a half dozen times before it was over. Too many heart strings got struck. A lot of this story came right out of my life, which probably is true of many reviewers here, based on all the accolades.

    It was pure joy to watch. But I didn't tape it. So I checked the listings for the next showing, and it was at 6 AM the next day. Right. After that it jumped to STARZ, which I don't have. So I got on Amazon right away and with Prime 2-day shipping, I didn't have to wait long.

    When UPS dropped it on my porch, I scooped it up, tore open the padded wrapping and popped it in the DVD player.

    To enjoy ALL OVER AGAIN.

    Leave it to Morgan Freeman. He had a hand-picked ensemble cast that worked "magic" on those of us who were open to the love unfolding on screen.

    No movie is perfect. But if it has Morgan Freeman in it, more than likely it comes darn close.

    I saw this movie a couple of months ago for the first time and really liked it. Of course Morgan Freeman is excellent in whatever he does. However, of all the dvd's and cd's I have ordered, this is the only one I have not been happy with. It skips or freezes up on my sony dvd player. DVD player is clean and no problems with any other movies. All of the movies I have ordered in the past play just fine, but not this one. Can't watch it at all on tv. It does play a little better on my pc, but still skips or freezes up, only a little less on the pc than the dvd/tv, so decided to keep it, but not happy with it. Just been too busy to send it back.

    This is a follow up of my original review: I usually watch a movie at least 3 times before making any judgement on it and since my dvd player for some reason wouldn't play this movie I originally gave it 3 stars. However, I just recently purchased a blu ray disc player and the movie plays fine on the new player and I have had the chance of watching the movie a few times since I usually don't pick up every detail the first couple of times. All things considering, giving the movie just on the content of the movie I have to give it a 5 star rating. An excellent movie for adults and children alike.

    As for my older dvd and vas combo player, it still plays all of my dvd's and older vhs tapes.

    Morgan Freeman is one of the most talented actors out there. I love everything he's in. He's an author who's wheelchair bound and widowed for seven years. He lost his inspiration when his wife died and his well meaning family have set him up in a small rental house by the lake. His neighbor with 3 girls is newly divorced, and the two form a bond. The movie is about how they help each other with their separate problems and how he is inspired to write again. I'm not sure the mother quite cuts it for me. Her acting was okay, but the casting wasn't quite right for me. Something was missing. Nevertheless. It's a nice story and Morgan is the perfect fit for his part.

    Morgan Freeman is excellent as a writer of western novels, no longer writing and due to a car accident uses a wheelchair, he is brought to Belle Isle and stays in a house and as part of the deal has to look after a dog named Ringo which he renames Spot and tries to teach him to fetch. Next door is a single mom played by Virginia Madsen and she has 3 daughters. One daughter is brave and goes next door and pays Freeman for lessons. The daughter goes to a second hand store and buys a novel missing the last page written by Freeman for 35 cents. Madsen invites Freeman over for dinner and he brings a mirror knowing that with 3 daughters they like to look at themselves. Madsen plays piano mostly classics. For 1 daughter Freeman starts typing away about an elephant and at a birthday party gives the daughter the story, she loves it. Later he befriends a young man, who likes to jump around like a bunny, the father abandoned the mother and son after birth, Freeman renames the boy Diego and the boy becomes part of the extended family. Later Freeman types the last missing page of the western novel for the young girl. He gets a visit from Kevin Polak who wants film rights for Freeman's western novels, Polak even brings the actor who wants to portray the western star, Freeman is invited to a wake and brings a bag of Doritos and drinks 3 beers. This is a heartwarming film, Freeman and Madsen's interactions are very moving as his Freeman's relationship with the children. Rob Reiner produced the movie and it is highly recommended.
