An amazing tribute collection to a brilliant, of undervalued, singer and legend. Olivia’s phrasing alone ranks among the very best of all time...a breathless, effortless innocence that transcends range or power and trades it for purity and beauty 5hats relatable and the definition of sweet. While 40/40 does a good job of bringing together her best and greatest state side hits but misses a few key and very special tracks diehard fans like me yearn for...specifically, her brilliant version of “Dont Cry for Me Argentina” and iconic “Over the Rainbow” the eclectic “Water Under the Bridge” and a personal favorite and ode to life “Country Girl” a self penned tale of growing up that hits new heights. I’m thrilled with the songs selected here but still yearn for a proper ONJ Box Set to crystallize her rightful place in American and World Pop Music. She’s an artists who has proven herself for nearly six decades as the purest pipes in pop and deserves a tribute release via collaboration from MCA, Universal and her other labels. There’s easily an 80 song killer collection that would truly be called ESSENTIAL but this import fills the gap nicely .... there’s so much beautiful music not included here (Whenever I’m Away from You, her grand duet with the great Gene Kelly....Richards Window, an Oscar nominated song from The Other Side of the Mountain, and several classic tracks like “Sordid Lives”, “ You Look Like a Dick to Me”, “The Best of Me” with David Foster, “Fly Away” as a featured artist on the John Denver easy listening canon, “Wishin and Hopin” with Dionne Warwick, “Mary Skeffington” her second US single which barely cracked the Hot 100, her rocking renditions of “Gimme Some Loving” and “Hollywood Nights” and Aussie ditties like “Ill Bet you a Kangaroo” and “Tenderfield Sadler”, and literally countless others any ONJ fan could quickly come up with if asked. The woman is a living legend and an International Treasure, not just for Grease or Physical, her most iconic pop moments but also for her commitment to the environment, to human and animal rights, and her endless fight to end the scourge of breast cancer. Her music deserves to be heralded not put down as so many critics have branded it bland and boring despite it touching the hearts of so many millions of fans the world over. The granddaughter of a Nobel Prize winning Physicist should be a candidate for a Nobel herself for bridging the world with her music, advocacy and fearless commitment to the earth we live on. A stunning tribute, but much more to be discovered!
