- Reviewed in the United States on October 4, 2023I have a friend at work who’s always praising his kids. Recently they both got into one of the most prestigious schools in the nation. I asked him what helped and told me how the Singaporeans out scored the Chinese in their math exams. That he’s been using these books as supplemental math exercises since they were in preschool. I quickly jumped on here and bought them for my kids. These books are an investment in your kids future. We do 5 pages a day when they get home from school. Both of my sons have grown in confidence to do math… and the their math scores prove it. Since our success, I’ve been sharing the secret with all my friends.
The Singapore method trains students using every means necessary to understand math. Perfect for students that feel that math is just not their thing. This is a negative idea that cripples them throughout their school life and affects their future. Singapore Math will build your child’s confidence as they conquer math!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 5, 2024My daughter loves doing math with Singapore. We go at her own pace. The math really builds on itself and teaches the kids how to do mental math.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 23, 2020I bought this set for my daughter, who turned 6 in December, and is in her Kindergarten year of homeschool. I give her age to say that she is a bit older than some kids who are starting K. She absolutely FLEW through the first book. I am NOT complaining about that. I think it was great that she was able to gain that confidence in herself and move quickly. The second book did go slower, but it was still pretty fast, we just finished it in early March after starting in August. She has started a 1st grade curriculum (not Singapore), and from what I see so far, she has been set up for it perfectly. I am here writing this review because I am getting ready to buy another set of books for my other daughter who be in Kindergarten this year. I expect it will take her a bit longer, as she is starting a bit younger than my older daughter, but I'm confident she will get through it and also be set up well for a first grade program.
It is in black and white, and I like that. It isn't gimmicky, and there is often opportunity to color.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 8, 2018We love these Singapore Math books! I was worried we wouldn’t be ready for them yet, so I had my child do lots of number and shape learning before getting these. This ended up meaning we didn’t need book A! Haha. I will save it for little brother 😊 we are stretching out book B and taking our time with it, but still most units do only take about a week (as is intended). We don’t use every suggested lesson plan at the bottom of the pages, but they are super helpful for when a child needs some extra comprehension. For the longer units in book B we are taking our time and just seeing how far we get each day, and they usually end up not being so “long” as they look 😊 we do every page together (my child doesn’t work very well independently yet) and it’s been enjoyable and pretty smooth transitioning through the concepts. One tip: I do make sure I pick a time of day when she’s really ready to learn (not hungry or squirmy) and that makes a BIG difference on how our time goes.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 9, 2018We got this for my son who is 4 years, 9 months old and has been very interested in activity books and seems to want more opportunities to learn. We are not trying to push him academically (recognizing it's kind of ridiculous to use that word since he's ... 4 years old), but just provide him with resources if he wants to pursue them. He is on book A; we hesitate to give him book B as it might be a bit too hard and frustrating. Anyway, point being he loves book A -- he has figured out how to read some of the words that repeat (e.g., 'color,' 'circle'). There are different sections in the book that focus on different things, like patterns or measurements, so that keeps him engaged. Some things don't seem directly math-related to my US-centric self, and I appreciate those as novel ways to keep him thinking and learning. I'm not sure he will see this kind of math again at school, but still think it's giving him a lot to learn and expanding his knowledge and understanding of math in general.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 22, 2016I have been homeschooling two of my kids for 7 years now. It was time for my youngest to join the scholastic world. I read the reviews and after much consideration bought this and the next level. She is 5, and like most parents, I think she is fantastically bright. Now, putting my feelings on how bright my child is aside. She is 5, only 5. Giving her a very solid foundation of numbers is extremely important. I want her to enjoy her work and feel like she can do it and have fun doing it. These beginning books achieve that. Yes, she already knows how to count to whatever amazing number, but these books solidify her abilities, practices number recognition, writing, shall I go in. We will be done with these within a couple of months. She will be so proud of herself and I will know she has a solid foundation.

2.0 out of 5 stars Too repetitive
I've been using Singapore Math with my children for over 14 years. My old Singapore Math Kindergarten set seems to be out of print, so I purchased this one. I am disappointed in this Kindergarten series. It's too repetitive and really seems like "busy work." I like Singapore Math because it doesn't baby children, assuming right from the beginning that they'll get it and incorporating the practice of previously learned skills with new ones.
While I recommend Singapore Math to everyone, I do not recommend this set. Since I'm stuck with it, I'll be using it for guidance and doing my own thing for practice.
