- Reviewed in the United States on August 7, 2016The pen is great, it has beautiful stamped artwork, and a great use of different metals to make it stand out from any other. As well as a great throwback to the old style of fountain pens from May25 1827 to the first ballpoint pen in October30 1888. The only problems that I could find with it were that in order to fill it you would half to take it completely apart and take out the cartridge, twist the piston knob all the way down, then fill it with I'll that you half to buy yourself (which is $3 at the least for about 2.5 oz (if you want ink that doesn't clump up in the pen, or just run out the end for no reason) ), and finally, you half type carefully put it back together, because of your not careful you will end up with a brand new BLACK shirt. But if you can do it right like I did, this pen will become the one that makes you half to find another pen to let someone use when they ask to Boroe one(if you know what I mean).
Also, the pen's pocket clip should be put on the opposite end, because if you put the pen in your shirt pocket, for longer than a few minutes, you (once again) will end up with a new black shirt. But of course this is expected from a fountain pen, because that is one thing they are notorious for, along with being able to squirt out ink when you pull the refill lever without it being empty. Which is another good thing about this one, because it can't squirt ink, because there is no letter for refilling. It refills by removing the cartridge and twisting a knob.
Also, if you need to get a an ink that works well with this pen. I suggest "Thornton's 1fl oz black fountain pen ink", it is the ink I use in mine, and so far it has been fluid and perfect, and out only costs around $3. It might not seem like mach but I tell you now, so far one jar has lasted me around 2 years and I use the pen every day.
I hope that this was useful to 1-2 people because I don't want to have someone buy something that wasn't really "for them", or that didn't operate to their standards or requirements, when I could have done something to stop it.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 7, 2016This was my first fountain pen that I bought when considering in delving into the fountain pen world. I didn't want to invest in anything too expensive if I decided that it was no for me, so I decided to buy this Jinhao 250 because it was just stunning to look at and actually made me want to use the pen.
Fast forward 5 months into the future. I have gained experience in fountain pens and now also have a Pilot Metropolitan and I gotta say that this pen was well worth the investment. Of course since the price was so cheap it was definitely not the greatest pen out there, but this pen gets better with age. In the beginning in my opinion, the nib was too toothy and ink did not flow as well. I was constantly frustrated at how much it would tear at the paper I was writing on it with and it just made me frustrated. But I definitely did not give up. I kept using is over and over again and I began to notice changes. Over time the nib smoothed out and now it writes on paper like butter. It is still a little heavy for me so I can't use it for longer than 30 minute sessions but the medium nib lets out ink generously although it is a bit of a dry nib. The dryness however is great on cheap paper and I can definitely jot down notes during my college lectures on my cheap dollar notebooks without any bleed through with a well behaving ink.
I really like the strokes that this guy makes and I can't get enough. It does have a rough start but transforms into a beautiful swan. The included converter although not the best quality out there has lived through 5 months of constant use and will continue to last me well onto a year. You pay a small price for such a great foray into a world of wonderful pens and brilliant inks. I definitely recommend the Jinhao as a great starter pen. Just pull through the first month of rough nibbyness, and you will have a buttery smooth pen!

- Reviewed in the United States on September 2, 2014First off, I want to disclose that with my job, my company makes pens, not fountain pens, but every other kind of pen you can think of from .25cent pens to $50+ high end roller ball pens, so I can honestly say I'm fairly versed on pens and how they are made overseas.
With that being said, I wanted to review my first fountain pen. How this came to be is that, like I already stated with my company making pens, is that I had a favorite pen that wrote great that was discontinued. It was this cheap plastic piece of crap but the ink flow and ink type was amazing that I was not able to duplicate with gel pens or other roller balls from my company or Staples. So i decided to buy this fountain pen mainly due to price and many more positive reviews than negative. I do have to say the pen is fantastic. I rarely ever use ballpoint pens and mostly have used roller ball pens. This pen has an ink flow that I believe is slightly better than roller ball pens ( all pens from $2 to $50 are nearly identical since the ink cartridges in them are mostly the same unless you buy that specifically states it has a different refill, mostly Chinese or German).
First impression: This category is the reason why the pen is not 5 stars. Visually the pen seems high quality, which is probably is higher than normal China pens. There were a couple things I noticed however. #1. Where the pen tip screws into the barrel of the pen is a different color of silver, so it has a two tone look, which you cannot really see in the pictures. #2. That same part is where the weight of the pen comes from, which tells me the barrel and cap are very thin material and the parts holding all the gold trim pieces together are plastic. It's not a pen you would want to leave in your car in direct sun as the glue holding the components together could melt causing the pieces to come apart. I did not dock it stars as i believe the scenario is probably highly unlikely under normal use. #3. Overall weight in my opinion is it's to light for this type of pen. This is personal opinion here and at .7 ounces it is considered a heavy pen by say mid-high end roller ball standards, of which some of the weight comes from metal refills. This pen the ink mechanism is plastic.
Usability: I did not buy the ink cartridges for this, instead, a jar of ink, black. It took me maybe 10 minutes to get the ink mechanism to suck up a decent amount of ink. Because it was taking so long and most tries it wouldn't suck anything up, I thought the pen was broke, but I eventually got it to work. The ink flow is very nice. I have haven't encountered any skipping yet, even trying to purposely write fast. The pen feels good when writing and the tip is very smooth on every type of paper I have tried, from construction paper, to mailing envelopes, to regular paper. Not much else to say on this, I have had no problems, writes very well and very nice.
OVERALL: I think the pen is a great pen for the price. This is my first fountain pen experience and so far it's a good one.
EDIT#1, ok so I noticed after showing a co worker the pen advertised on Amazon that the tip on mine is completely different than the picture, it's all gold instead of gold/silver and the design is different. This could also be why mine is two toned silver unlike the picture, seems like there might have been a product spec change and the item received is not exactly the same as the item advertised.
EDIT#2. So I have been using this pen for a while and pretty heavily and I think I can debunk some of the negative reviews about ink flow. One thing I noticed is if the cap is left off for even a minute, the tip dries and you have to dip the pen in ink to get it to flow again. If you put the cap on immediately after being done writing, it's perfectly fine. So the question I have to the people that gave this negative reviews for ink flow is, "were you putting the cap back on after use?" I am guessing the answer is NO.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ótimo produto

5.0 out of 5 stars Very impressed
The pen arrived earlier than promised, about 12 days. I bought based on all the favourable reviews and was not disappointed. It has a solid, heavy, quality feel, looks good and writes well. I think "medium" is a reasonable description of the nib. Writing with it is pleasurable, the nib glides smoothly, better than my beloved Lamy, which was positively scratchy till I followed YouTube videos to put it right. For £2.35 including postage, this is an impulse buy I definitely don't regret!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome pen
I really was impressed with the quality of this pen. I have recently developed a liking to using fancy pens but the price for some fountain pens is ridiculous! This pen is great and VERY reasonably priced. My mom appropriated it once she tried it. It's nice and heavy -- not cheap-feeling. There's a"heft" to it, if you know what I mean. Very elegant writing produced, and there are so many different colours you can use. The ink flows well and no blobs to surprise you. It arrived well before the estimate and was safely wrapped. I really appreciated the price and, LOL, had to order another one for me as my mom has laid claim to mine.

3.0 out of 5 stars É muito boa...porém a pena veio errado?
Bom, de acordo com a imagem da ponta da caneta e com a que veio, são diferentes, sendo sincero preferiria que viesse a ponta que estava na imagem do produto, mas não vejo tanto problema em utilizar ela com essa ponta. 3 estrelas pois apresentou algo diferente do mostrado/prometido. O mesmo se aplica com o conversor, é diferente da imagem posta também.
