This movie is an absolute classic 80’s screwball comedy. John Cusack is genius in his portrayal, and displays the underlying warmth that’s been his trademark for decades.

    Cult favorite from the 80s sees a young John Cusack pining for Beth after he's dumped for the ski team captain, lots of bizarre humour, memorable lines, and wacky characters. Very good picture quality on the BD, skimpy on the extras unfortunately. I've heard that Cusack has mellowed a bit in his dislike of the film over the years and accepts it's loved as it is. Curtis Armstrong (Booger) steals the show as Charles De Mar whose lack of recreational drug access leads him to snorting everything around him including jello and the afore mentioned sweet mountain white. I hadn't seen the film since around its first VHS appearance so it was great to watch again, and laughed outloud as Lane's mother's latest food creation started to exit stage left from the plate! E.G. Daily singing One Way Love was also a favorite. Recommended! (j4.)

    This movie holds up. It has some silly parts but our children enjoyed it. It takes some serious topics and addresses them with humor. If you’re a sensitive, post gen x, easily triggered individual, this movie might not be for you. But if you have a good sense of humor and enjoy the 80s vibe, we recommend it.

    I'm a big John Cusack fan and I've always had a soft spot for Better off Dead. The film is nonsensical and surreal but it's so good natured and likeable. The story is basic but there are so many little inventive touches that it feels pretty unique among 80's teen comedies. If I discovered it now rather than in the 80's I might not have such affection for it. Who knows? As for the Blu-ray, if I was watching on a regular size TV I probably wouldn't have bothered upgrading from DVD but watching on a projector the image is noticeably better, looking a touch sharper and more filmic. I got it for a bargain price as well so it was a no brainer. Highly recommended
