I'm an all purpose kind of person and have an app, TuneIn Radio, that I like quite well. I'm always on the look out for apps to add to my Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 and decided to check this one out as I listen to their great jazz stations a lot on TuneIn Radio.
I'm so glad I did. The listening quality is very good although they do, of course, push their pro version at you, the free is fine as it stands. The app is well done and the station choice is surprisingly varied for a single genre.

When I first started using this app, I only knew of a few older jazz artists, i.e. Frank Sinatra, Etta James, Bing Crosby and one or two newer jazz artists, Holly Cole and Diana Krall, since using this app I've learned quickly about hundreds of other great jazz artists and different styles of jazz. I have yet to find a song on here that doesn't either relax me and help me unwind or make me want to jump up and dance; I love the music on here and am thinking of becoming a premium member. I feel like this is a great app for any jazz fan whether you're just entering the colorful world of jazz music as a listener or you're a long time fan.

The one star review is for W11

Crashes on W11 when opening hence the one star.

It has been a while since I used a Fire tablet (replaced with Galaxy tablets) but as I recall the app worked fine on my Fire tablets

I just got this App. tonight and being a Jazz fan, I just loved it. I loved how there was so many stations to pick from. It worked great on my Kindle Fire HD. When I listened to the music, I ran the Visualations in the back ground from this other App. I have and It was so relaxing. This is a winner. I am a senior, so I like all the older jazz, like big band music and Jazz.

Enjoyed the choice of jazz genres in this app and the resultant music, so the three stars represent that feature. However, this only goes for the first two times I used it, because since then I have not been able to access ANY music on the app, so it's turned out to be a bust.

I am strictly a jazz aficionado and love the intent behind this app and the service itself. However, I am not ready to jump to this because the categories are not as well defined as they could be. What I mean is if I select, say, the saxophone channel I will get everyone from Coleman Hawkins to popular saxophonists from today's generation. While it's gratifying to know that there is a new crop of players keeping the music alive I prefer older stuff.

That is not to say that this station does not have merit - it does. It's just that it's not fine grained enough right now. I have no doubt that it will improve as it evolves which is why I gave it four stars - a pretty high rating by any standard. Here is what it needs that Pandora already has:

Channels by musician. What I mean by that is if I am Thelonious Monk fan I can expect a lot of his work, but the channel should also have a smattering of Bud Powell, Dodo Marmarosa, Al Haig and others. Pandora does that and I have discovered (or rediscovered) musicians I would not have considered until their music came up in the playlist. Yes, this does something similar, but is not segmented by era and genre the way Pandora is.

Another feature that I would love is the ability to read bios of the currently playing musician as well as key features of the music itself. Again, Pandora does that and I hope this application and service behind it does the same.

Finally, it's the functional controls that I miss as well. Here I cannot skip past a some I dislike or look ahead in the queue to cherry pick what I want to hear next. Such a feature would allow me to get more use and enjoyment from this app and service because it empowers me to control what I listen to. Pandora allows some of that. Where Pandora beats this in the functional area, though, is it seems to have adaptive learning built-in where it learns what I like and anticipates my choices. At present the playlists on Pandora are more aligned to my tastes.

Don't get me wrong, I have a feeling that this application and service will evolve into a more useful, mature listening experience. That's why the app will remain on my phone and I will frequently revisit it to see the improvements and progress. However, I am not ready to switch over for the reasons cited.
