A comprehensive and fun guide to Backgammon!

Backgammon is one of the oldest games in the world, the origins of which date back some 5000 years – and it's still going strong. It enjoyed a huge resurgence in the 1970s, and then again in the 1990s with the popularity of the Internet, where millions of people play tournaments online every day.

Today, backgammon's following in the UK is huge, with a dedicated British Isles Backgammon Association, and hundreds of face-to-face tournaments taking place across the UK every year.

In this book, backgammon expert Chris Bray walks you through the basics of setting up a board, opening strategies, middle and end-game tactics, and tips on when to make key moves. You'll also get to grips with basic probabilities, the doubling cube and the 25% rule. And if you want to take your gaming further, there's plenty of advice to get you started in tournament backgammon, as well as playing online.

Suitable for both beginners and experienced player looking for more tips and techniques, Backgammon For Dummies includes coverage on:

  • Starting and Playing the Game
  • Handling the Middle Game
  • Bearing Off (The Last Lap)
  • Varying the Play

Okay, fellow gamers, listen up - Backgammon For Dummies is the book you didn’t know you needed! As a new backgammon player who’s been itching to learn the game for ages, this book has been an absolute lifesaver.

Let’s be real, backgammon can seem pretty intimidating at first. I mean, all those pieces, moves, and strategies can leave you scratching your head. But fear not! This book breaks it all down into easy-to-understand chunks that even a newbie like me can grasp.

The author did an amazing job of simplifying the game without dumbing it down. It’s like having a patient and friendly mentor guiding you through each step. Thanks to this book, I’ve gone from clueless to confident in no time!

One of the things I appreciate the most is how the book covers all the basics. From setting up the board to understanding the rules and strategies, it’s got everything you need to get started. It even throws in some handy tips and tricks to give you an edge.

And let me tell you, the layout is spot-on. The chapters are organized in a logical way, so it’s easy to follow along and build on your knowledge as you go. Plus, the writing style is friendly and approachable, making it a joy to read.

I’ll be honest, I was worried that learning backgammon would be a struggle, but this book made it a breeze. I feel like I’ve unlocked a whole new world of gaming fun, and I owe it all to Backgammon For Dummies!

Whether you’re a complete beginner like me or just want to brush up on your backgammon skills, I highly recommend this book. It’s the ultimate guide for new players, and it’s made a world of difference in my backgammon journey. Trust me, you won’t regret picking up a copy! 🎲📘

One reviewer complained that this backgammon book did not render well on what I assume is a traditional standalone Kindle device. I do not dispute that, but I can assure you the book looks fantastic as it renders in gorgeous full color with perfect pictures and diagrams on the iPhones Kindle app. I trust the dummies franchise and I'm fully confident this beautiful looking book is a purchase I'll be happy with for years to come.

Regardless of one's levell as a backgammon player, this book is written in such a way that one can LEARN from it. Chris Bray's expertise guides the reader through all the complexities and hazard of the game CLEARLY. When I first started to play backgammon, I purchased the book and in a year's time, not only did I win tournaments, but also won regional championship status, as best Intermediate player of the year.

Very informative and reads easily. I am a from-the-back-of-the-line beginner and I knew only the basics about this game before I got this book. I am progressing nicely and have beaten GNU Backgammon twice in eight games. I would say that this book is a success at least for me.

Kein ernsthafter Spieler kommt an diesem Programm vorbei. Daher ein Stern Abzug.
